To think there shouldn't be measles outbreaks?

fatandhappy47 · 20/01/2024 06:39

Surely we shouldn't be having an issue with measles?
Had an email from school (secondary) 'reminding' us to keep kids off with measles, which got me thinking

All my kids band my friends kids of the same age had their MMR (however my youngest did get measles before this)

So why is it an issue in secondary schools of all places? Are people just not vaccinating their kids?

@notmorezoom, so why do you think your opinion is more important than reality? Is it narcissism?

What opinion of mine do I apparently think is more important than reality?

Mills raised temperature is the norm with vaccines but not high fevers and convulsions. But then some rush their children to hospital for a sneeze.

Autism is a very specific set of clinical features which is not the same thing as 'brain damage' from different causes.

I know that notmorezoom thinks it's temperatures from vaccine not me.

Love the way everyone is saying it’s about lack of uptake, have a little look at the areas it’s high in.

Which areas are you looking at the ones I see are areas with low uptake rates.

You were stating your opinions on the vaccines being more dangerous. That is noonsense but you seem to think your opinion is very important. Is that narcissism or some other form of ego-mania?

pointythings · 23/01/2024 18:49

My mind is officially boggled by @notmorezoom 's madcap theory that temperatures due to vaccine reactions cause autism. And still we are not allowed to think that antivaxxers are not that bright. Wow.

Type 1 diabetes in the case of one child in my family.

@pointythings, Yes, it is so stupid that I am asking her for a more psychological explination.

Well, the CDC says there’s a small increased risk of febrile seizures with the MMR but that the MMR can also be protective of getting febrile seizures from measles, mumps or rubella.
Having said that, a hell of a lot more kids get vaccinated then develop measles, mumps or rubella in western countries, so in that sense I am sure far far far more cases of febrile are attributed to the vaccines than to natural illness. Think how many kids got the vaccine over the past 12 months compared with the 1,600 who developed the illness. Swings and roundabouts.

I friend of mine had a very healthy little girl but suffered severe brain damage after a seizure and became quadriplegic and reliant on machines to keep her breathing.....after a vaccine. Just saying.

pointythings · 23/01/2024 19:19

@CrispyFries read up on correlation and causation. Febrile seizures can be caused by many, many things.

I imagine the CDC wouldn't publish vague correlations.

pointythings · 23/01/2024 19:29

@Dutch1e indeed, but the vaccine/seizure list is still not necessarily a causative one. One of my DC developed a fairly serious ear infection within 5 days of having the MMR and had a febrile convulsion. It wasn't the first ear infection or the first convulsion - the others were not adjacent to any vaccinations. That's where the question of correlation and causation comes in.

My mind is equally boggled by that theory. I think you'll find that I was replying to @CrispyFries , whose bonkers theory it was..................something like 'vaccine = high temp = brain damage which looks like autism'

That's an awful story. Probably not a febrile seizure though as such consequences from them are vanishingly rare.

Yes. ND people are more likely to have seizures anyway. Two of my autistic children have had seizures and one of them wasn't diagnosed with epilepsy.

Peregrina · 23/01/2024 21:40

But there is a yellow card system for reporting vaccine damage. Vaccine damage can happen, and pretending it doesn't, does not reassure those who are not sure about having vaccines.

MyopicBunny · 24/01/2024 01:05

Of course vaccine damage can happen - nobody disputes that. Any drug can have an adverse side effect though.

Sweden99 · 24/01/2024 05:58

@Peregrina, absolutely. We do not take vaccines for the sake of it but because it is safer to take the vaccine that risk unvaccinated exposure to the pathogen.
There should be an immune response. The production quality is also a concern. That said, the ICU units were full of hte unvaccinated, but the vaccinated suffering the side effects.

that is not what i’m asking

your opinion is “based on my observations”

How big is your sample size?

or are your “observations” articles you have read?

@CrispyFries you have pointedly ignored my very simple question

your opinion is “based on my observations”

How big is your sample size? or are your “observations” articles you have read?

malificent7 · 24/01/2024 06:58

It's a very emotive topic as we all want the best for our kids.
It' s all about risk benefit......risk of vaccine damage versus risk of disease damage. I chose to vaccinate but did feel uneasy about it.
Those claiming that vaccine damage dosn't exist have an ostrich mentality....feels like Russian roulette giving a vaccine.

I'm not sure about the link with autism but 3 of my close childhood friends including my dh have kids with autism that affects them enough to disrupt their lives. Sdd is the only high functioning one.
I myself am getting assessed. I know a lot claim it's just better diagnosed but 3 people close to me with autistic children....does make me wonder.

On balance it is best to vaccinate as measles etc is horrid but we shouldnt hurl abuse at anti vaxers.

malificent7 · 24/01/2024 06:59

Im not anti vaxxer myself ..i'm very pro vaccination but there are side effects with every drug.

I assume @malificent7 , is concerned that people should not be friends with her if they do not want autistic children.

I think describing it like Russian roulette is a bit OTT. I will admit that it used to anger me that baby vaccines had mercury in them but that has been taken out, now.
