Child on trampoline in the rain

If you looked out of your window and saw the child next door to you, in the pouring rain, running in the garden and jumping on the trampoline, what would you think?

looked out of my bedroom window the other day and saw a child bouncing around on the trampoline in the freezing cold, grinning and giggling. Seeing them so obviously enjoying themselves outside despite the cold made me feel happy.

Goodness OP, don’t know what your neighbour would think of DH, who has been known to point the hose at our children on the trampoline in the summer as they screech with glee!

yes, it’s slippery but they’re ok so far!

Thethingspeoplegetupto · 18/01/2024 14:17

@shreknjumps Will her jacket really stink?!

My two run around like mad dogs when it’s raining outside. Get utterly drenched. And then run inside screeching ‘I cant feel my toes’ like Donkey from shrek.

good excuse for warm towels and mid week hot choc…

That really made me smile, they sound like good fun

diddl · 18/01/2024 14:18

As long as they can go in when they want to that's fine.

When mine were young they used to run around in just wellies in the snow!

Thethingspeoplegetupto · 18/01/2024 14:19

Trampoline of course has a zip net thing all around it, do they even come without it these days?
As I said, my anxiety had me worried about a potential slip…but, god was she enjoying herself too much

I work in a nursery we take the children in the garden in all weather's aslong as appropriate clothing and footwear are worn they absolutely love running around in the rain and splashing about. Only concern I would have about your situation is if the trampoline was slippery.

Thethingspeoplegetupto · 18/01/2024 14:19

*She was enjoying herself so much

"Will her jacket really stink?!"

I'd say so yes. Get it dry asap!

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 18/01/2024 14:20

My son was on the trampoline the other day in the snow, doing backflips. Great fun!

Stressedafff · 18/01/2024 14:20

You don’t get poorly from being outside, cold and rain doesn’t cause a virus. Glad she had fun on the trampoline! Ignore your neighbour. My DD is the same, plays out in all weathers

Soubriquet · 18/01/2024 14:21

Long as they were enjoying themselves and not shut out in the rain, why would I care?

I'd love to see cows on a trampoline in the rain

It was almost a possibility in last year’s heavy winds 😆

Greensleevevssnotnose · 18/01/2024 14:21

I would think, why aren't they at school, and where did that trampoline come from, and shit when did Jane get a child?

ladygindiva · 18/01/2024 14:21

One of my DC loves being out in the rain and standing in the garden feeling the rain fall on her face. God knows what the neighbours think 🤣

Mischance · 18/01/2024 14:21

Children love rain!

At last year's village fete, the heavens opened and rain was coming down in sheets - it was quite spectacular! Everyone ran for the tiny bit of available cover. But the children were out there dancing and shrieking and having a wonderful time - I was quite envious! Smile

Thethingspeoplegetupto · 18/01/2024 14:22

This was the same neighbour who told me to take my dc indoors after I was sat out in the garden with her a couple of weeks after she was born. It was hot summer, but Dd was lay in her swinging bassinet thing (forgot the name of it) We we’re sat in the cool shade under our large garden umbrella and there was a light breeze…it was heaven! She said newborns shouldn’t be outside until 3 months or so

BungledBundle · 18/01/2024 14:22

I've got two who "need" to be out on the trampoline, whatever the weather. -4 yesterday evening! But yes in the rain too. So I wouldn't think anything of it!

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 18/01/2024 14:23

Where do you live OP where you have 18 degrees temperature today ?

Daffodilsandsunshine · 18/01/2024 14:23

I'd be asking if I could join in the fun - damn my dodgy knee!

BettyBakesCakes · 18/01/2024 14:24

Not much. Many children will use a trampoline to regulate. fresh air and a bit of rain won't generally do them any harm.

There you go, she's nuts.
Don't take anything she says to heart.

Thethingspeoplegetupto · 18/01/2024 14:25

@ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea Southern Europe, this is cold though, rain and coats, jumpers weather

OP posts:
Thethingspeoplegetupto · 18/01/2024 14:26

Bearing in mind it’s likely a cultural thing as many seem to think weather makes every child ill

It would remind me of the time my DD zoomed around on her scooter for over an hour in the porting rain, at a campsite in Filey. Quite simply because there was nothing else to do. In the pub later that evening, people commented on how lovely it was to see her happy and smiling around the park, despite the weather. So, I'd say they're having fun.
