Would you have a baby at 50?

Off the back of the "Do you regret having a baby at 40" thread, would you have a child at 50 assuming you can provide for it emotionally and financially? Obviously medical assistance would be needed.

Absolutely not you mad thing

Codlingmoths · 16/01/2024 01:03

No!!

WagWoofWalkMeeoow · 16/01/2024 01:04

at 50, yeah at 54 no. I'd like a grandchild though,

redalex261 · 16/01/2024 01:04

Absolutely not. Exhausting nightmare at 38. Fifty and menopausal would be unimaginably bad even with a fleet of servants!

Reugny · 16/01/2024 01:06

Obviously medical assistance would be needed.

Not in all cases according to my SILs who have dealt with such women.

Though those women tend to have lots of children and don't use BC.

There as the others who needed assistance seemed to have it well planned.

HoHoHoliday · 16/01/2024 01:06

Yes, I would. I spent my 30s having fertility treatment which was unsuccessful. Went into menopause late 30s and thought eventually with hormones changing I would lose the yearning to be a mother, but that hasn't changed. I'm mid 40s now and I actually yearn for it more than ever. So yes, if it was possible, I would have a baby at 50. Unless you've experienced the bitter painful grief of childlessness not by choice I don't think you could empathise with those who continue to pursue motherhood at a late age.

Ialwaystry · 16/01/2024 01:07

Can't think of anything worse. ...imo

NamingConundrum · 16/01/2024 01:08

Baby at 50? Probably fine. Toddler mid 50s? No thanks. Parenting a teenager in late 60s? Hell no.

HeidiIeigh · 16/01/2024 01:08

Absolutely not no

Ropeonasoap · 16/01/2024 01:09

Definitely not. And I'm childless after IVF. I'd rather not be a mother than a mother at 50. It's less about me and more thinking about the child.

LameBorzoi · 16/01/2024 01:09

There's a lot of hype at the moment about extending healthy lifespan, and research directions over the next few years. I'm sure a lot of it is hot air, but if any of it actually pans out, then perhaps?

elliejjtiny · 16/01/2024 01:10

Absolutely not. My youngest child will be nearly 18 when I turn 50 and my eldest will be 25. The idea of having a baby now (I'm 41) doesn't appeal to be honest.

Having said that, my answer comes from a privileged position of being a mum already. I'm quite stubborn so if I was still trying to get pregnant with my first I would probably keep going until I either got pregnant or it became biologically impossible.

DramaAlpaca · 16/01/2024 01:11

No!!!

thinslicedham · 16/01/2024 01:16

No. I wouldn't want, anyway, but I also don't think it would be fair to the baby to actively pursue that (probably an unpopular opinion).

HamBone · 16/01/2024 01:26

I’ll be 50 this year and it’s not on my bucket list!

If by some miracle I did get pregnant, I would have the baby and love them, but I know it would be physically very hard (I’d be far more tired now).

Milkybarsareonmeeeee · 16/01/2024 01:27

No way ! Had my last at 36 and it’s nearly been the death of me lol

A popular opinion with me! Nice to see someone though of the kid for once

Ropeonasoap · 16/01/2024 01:32

*think

Darkenergy · 16/01/2024 01:33

Not now I have a child. If I didn't and it was my only opportunity to have one, then probably yes.

Zombiemum1946 · 16/01/2024 01:37

Given how knackered I was at 39 absolutely not. Near crapped a brick when I thought I could be pregnant at 43.

Well said. Says alot that most of these comments are about the mother and not the child

saltinesandcoffeecups · 16/01/2024 01:51

I’m 47 and my DH 52… he just had the snip even though 20 years of regular sex haven’t produced a child. At this point it would be a cruel joke.

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/01/2024 01:51

Hell no!

I am 50 and on contraception as I am still occasionally ovulating, and there is nothing on EARTH that would persuade me to have another!

That said, I have 6 and youngest is now 12. If I hadnt had any and had tried for years to have one, then found myself pg at 50, I probably would have the baby and I think a lot of people in that situation would.

chaosmaker · 16/01/2024 01:58

Too many people on the planet, nature says no and we've killed off natural predators. Would you be able to adopt at 50?

Tourmalines · 16/01/2024 02:00

No way !! Not fair on the child !
