My Primark allows all dogs

Pribark24 · 13/01/2024 16:50

All dogs are allowed in my local Primark and it's really pissed me off. The store manager said he was really annoyed about it too, but had been told that the policy had changed.

AIBU to think that dogs do not belong in shops? There's not much room to start with!

Agree big dog lover here but there’s no way I’d take mine in a clothes shop. My dog had a poo in pets at home once, can you imagine that in the middle of Primark!

EasterMummie · 13/01/2024 16:52

Yuck.

YANBU, who wants clothes that have had a dog's nose smeared all over them

Exactly. I don't think dogs (except assistance dogs) should be in clothes shops but there have been endless threads about this.

mouseychick · 13/01/2024 16:56

They do it in zara too

Ferraria · 13/01/2024 16:56

It's not ok. I don't want to see dogs in shops or restaurants, and I love dogs.

Whinge · 13/01/2024 16:56

I would be interested to see if anyone else can confirm this change in policy. It seems like an unusual decision.

Snowydaysfaraway · 13/01/2024 16:56

Oh great for us allergic shoppers...

platinumplus · 13/01/2024 16:57

John Lewis is like this too. I don't want to be tripping over dogs and leads or being licked or buying clothing with dog hair on it.

But the biggest bugbear for me is that how is this a nice environment for the dogs? Bright lights, noise, lots of people. Someone once took their dog on the escalator and it cut its foot. Taking dogs in a shop like Primark is just 100% selfish.

Pribark24 · 13/01/2024 16:57

I've seen threads about dogs being in cafes etc and about people claiming dogs are assistance dogs, but I've never seen a thread about a major retailer openly allowing all dogs. Sorry! I'm really shocked, but also realise retailers are really struggling, but this is definitely off-putting.

I adore my dogs. But I don’t want loads of dogs in clothes shops.

I was surprised, last week, when I went to our nearest shopping outlet and tons of people had dogs with them. I don’t think it’s a good idea.

Lasegna · 13/01/2024 16:58

I don't care about dogs in shops but it's very cheeky and entitled when owners just take their dogs in lives that arent dog friendly. Saw one in a department store fgs (not even on ground floor, popping in). Leave it at HOME.

Many retailers allow them now I think

100% it’s not right for the dogs at all

Mercurial123 · 13/01/2024 16:59

I had hoped the dogs in cafés, shops, etc. reached its peak in 2023. How many times can we have the same conversation?

Flickersy · 13/01/2024 16:59

The likelihood of this affecting you in any way is minimal. But just don't go to Primark if you're that worried.

Pribark24 · 13/01/2024 17:00

The shopping centre that Primark is in now allows dogs, so the shops are now allowing dogs. There's quite a list on the website, including Clarks, Boots, JD Sports etc

I’ve just seen dogs in John Lewis and Sainsbury’s, they weren’t assistance dogs….when did this become a thing?

What is the centre?

Pribark24 · 13/01/2024 17:01

This is in Shrewsbury.

But taking your dog around John Lewis is so lovely!

Having said that, I agree OP. Dogs don’t belong in shops like Primark.

I was in Pets at Home this morning and there was a really ferocious sounding GSD in there with an owner struggling to control it. That was bad enough. All of the nice dogs (and their owners) were looking very distressed. Now obviously, a shop like Pets at Home should allow well-behaved dogs. But clothes shops? Completely unnecessary.

Ismydaughtertypical · 13/01/2024 17:02

I saw someone take their dog into our local sainsburys. It was in the trolly! In the same week I saw people on here tell a poster that it was totally not ok to take her cat (in a carrier) into the supermarket.

Anyone else reading that in the voice of the bloke in Catherine Tate's Yorkshire Couple?

In this case, "the dirty bastards" is entirely appropriate.
