To be taken aback by this request in Asda

Hi everyone.

I’ve just come back from doing the weekly food shop at Asda and have been a bit taken aback by an incident.

Whilst scanning my packet of cereal bars with the Scan and Go handsets, a colleague doing some online told me that she needed them for her online order and I would have to give them back to her. I admit to being a bit taken aback by this request and told her ‘no,’ and speaking to the colleague in a short tone.

I now feel a bit guilty as that probably means someone at home, who may not be able to come into the shop has missed out.

YABU - I should’ve given them over.
YANBU - I was first to them and therefore should’ve kept them in my shop.

On a side note, does anyone else get fed up with the amount of online shoppers at busy times in the supermarket? There was at least 15 trolleys going round today whilst it was busy with regular customers, and not the first time.

OP posts:

Why are people so bothered by Asda use of the word colleague Confused

lunarleap · 13/01/2024 12:37

It's not giving them back to her if she never had them

They are nitpicking

If you do not like online pickers when you are shopping just go to an alternative store that does not have them

🙄 There's always one.

I suppose you would say to someone who is unhappy in their job because they have a horrible boss and long work hours and a massive workload, that they know where the door is.

'Don't like it - go somewhere else' is a shitty answer.

InAFightWithGod · 13/01/2024 12:40

I know someone who is a picker for Asda. They don’t do this. Either it didn’t happen or you met a rogue staff member. 🤣 I think you jumped the shark with apparently feeling bad that an online shopper now won’t get their item.

You are being unreasonable to be annoyed at online shoppers and this is clearly your issue.

Yeah, some people are bored on here today. 😆 Get a hobby people! Go for a walk. Do some volunteering! Anything to alleviate your boredom!

shreknjumps · 13/01/2024 12:42

Give it up @CantFindTheBeat and just be happy you've learned something new today Grin

rockwater · 13/01/2024 12:42

Absolutely not! Of course you arent being unreasonable. This is no different to me shopping in person, finding something has run out then seeing someone with it in their trolley and demanding they give it to me! Bloody cheek. Online shoppers don't get priority over people who have actually gone down to the shop, if its run out then that's life and they'll have to accept a substitute.

You know one person who workers in a supermarket so know how all retail workers behave? I’ve come across much ruder retail workers than this.

Just because your friend works for Asda as an 'online shopper picker' and 'doesn't do this,' that doesn't mean the OP didn't have an Asda employee doing it to her. Confused

She 'jumped the shark' you say? Are you saying she is lying about the whole thing?

elfies · 13/01/2024 12:44

We've had a fortnightly delivery since lockdown , have lovely drivers and few substitutions . However I recently managed to get into a store and found it only has self service tills at checkout now, so I shall be continuing my home deliveries.

Lol. I’m saying Asda don’t do this. If a staff member did it, they’ve gone ‘rogue’. 🤣

Wetblanket78 · 13/01/2024 12:45

I often have big shops delivered. I don't drive so easier than getting a taxi shoot me now lol. But I wouldn't expect staff to take something off an in store shopper. They can substitute with another cereal bar. They don't have to accept the sub.

It’s not even the most stupid job role title going - by a long shot.

Itsalwaysthelasttime · 13/01/2024 12:46

I used to work in m&s amd had to have a word with a customer who was going up to other customers demanding they give her their yellow stickers items as she wanted and needed them more 😂

Your friend knows every single person to have ever worked for Asda, obviously.

InAFightWithGod · 13/01/2024 12:49

@SheFliesLikeABirdInTheSky Asda pickers aren’t told to do this. I clearly said if this one did, ‘you met a rogue staff member’. That's not impossible, however it seems very unlikely as it’s such a weird thing to do. The OP clearly has an issue with online shoppers. 😅

PamelaParis · 13/01/2024 12:49

Was this a dream you had? Because no way did this happen in a supermarket.

On that, my sister works for Asda online shopping and some of her workmates definitely do this. Particularly at Christmas. It drives her nuts because it makes the other shoppers moody with all of the online pickers.

NeptunaOfTheMermaidBattleSquadron · 13/01/2024 12:34

That wasn't the topic of your post, though. You posted correcting OP's grammar and you were wrong to do so. 🤷‍♀️ Several other people have told you you are wrong though, and you're digging in for increasingly spurrious reasons, so clearly you just want to be right about something.
Have a lovely day.

No it was really confusing the post because my first reading was that both OP and the person picking worked in the store and knew each other. I thought OP was doing her own shopping after her shift, say, and the “colleague” was trying to use their relationship to convince her to give up the cereal bars

MadeOfAllWork · 13/01/2024 12:51

The online order picker was there as a proxy for the customer. Had the customer actually been there in store they would have seen you pick up the last one, be annoyed and picked up something else.
