Something in the loft!

Right, here me out! I'm not crazy. For the last 2.5 years since moving to this house. There is something in my loft. Every night it fumbles about. Taps like aa nut or something above my head . I can here rustling of whatever its going through!

We have been to investigate many many many times!! No droppings! We have put down all manner of traps and things to tempt whatever it is. Nothing!!

I know the previous tenants and they said its been doing it for a few years too. There are no holes we can locate for it to get in and out. Previous tenants have said the same!

What could it be!? And to survive at least 5 years!!!!

It freaks me out ever night!

Not really an AIBU. But is it time to move!!?? 🤣

Pipes?

No it's definitley an animal. It scurries about. Moves bags. Taps nuts etc

I think it's probably mice. Put down some poison.

It’s a ghost banging the pipes. Do you live in an old house? 😳 Have you tried conversing with them and asking them to keep it down?

On a more serious note, are you in a detached or attached property? What times of day do you hear the noise? Have you tried tapping the ceiling? Have you been up into the loft when you can hear the noise? Are there likely to be pipes there going up to a tank in the loft?

I get a lot of birds under the eaves of my roof, sounds like they're in the loft but they're not.

What do you mean by moves bags, taps nuts,etc?

I have an owl, lands on my roof and makes a lot of noise, it took me ages to work out it wasn't anything in the loft, we literally had everything out looking for droppings etc but there was nothing

Could it be birds?

Also I don't actually have an owl myself, I just think of it as my owl because it's in my garden every night. I also have a hedgehog that passes through in the evenings that I call my hedgehog 😍

Could it be crows or magpies hanging out in your gutter? I’ve had some before and it sounded like something N was running around in the loft!

It was a squirrel when I lived at home still. Used to run about in the loft above my head. Knew it was a squirrel as I saw it climb in through a hole in the eaves! Then one day when dh(bf at the time) was with me in the bedroom at night, we had the light on above us. Suddenly the lights go off, there’s a massive squeal and it runs across the ceiling. I think it electrocuted itself biting through wires. The lights and electrics needed repairing after that 😂

Pigeons i have a few in my loft.

Ok pigeon or squirrel then! I don't think a mouse or rat would live this long!

I banged the area with a broom. It just moves to the other side. It's in the middle of the ceiling. So not pipes or gutters. It literally runs around!

We have birds in the eaves that sound like they’re going to fall through the ceiling
last year they got in to the little roof part above our bay window and it sounded like real scurrying. Drove me mental and we got someone round to block their entrance.

this is what the bird/s were doing last year above our window! I used to bang with my hand to try and scare them off 😂

Squirrels! They're sneaky fluffy tapdancing bastards in my loft who keep me awake too!

We had rats in our loft. They were getting in from a pipe inlet on the outside wall of the kitchen and climbed up through the cavity wall! You'd be suprised at the ways pests can get into your house! They'll find their way through the tiniest crack in the wall and will climb all the way up!

My experience were rats and there were lots of them! No droppings or evidence but we put traps down and caught them night after night for 6 six weeks. Our neighbours had a nest and they were using our loft as a run through.
