Sacked for using 'N' word

I don't know how to copy link sorry but has anyone been following the story of the Lloyd's bank manager who was sacked for asking a relevant question in a so called anti racism training session by his employers but in his question he used the full 'N' word.
His question I believe was how would he be expected to deal with black employees or customers speaking to each other using that word.
The trainer was so offended by the word, she had to take 5 days off work. However, he got sacked.
He has since been awarded £500,00 but no apology from Lloyd's and no job back.
As far as we know, the ridiculous incompetent trainer is still employed.

I am close to this story but afraid to say how.
But will say that I'm losing sleep and furious more and more at this bank.

Funny that some are like dogs with bones on perceived racism, yet are doubting his dyslexia being a factor. Doesn't a learning need rank highly enough for you? Normally you'd be climbing all over that when trying to be virtuous.

Most people know

Just like most people know the replacement term "n-word".

And when I say most people, I mean everyone

I have a diagnosis for a related LD. If you read the expert opinion at the end of the judgement it's "could have" "probably" "possibly" a reason that he said the word in full.

I can think of another reason

Aren’t mayors expected to make a lot of speeches?

Surely he would’ve noticed his propensity to drop N- bombs during one of the many occasions when he was elected to speak…😂

He should’ve pushed for Tourette’s over dyslexia.

So as I say, you're doubting it as being a reason but 100 per cent of his being a racist. Thanks for confirming your own bias.

I'm going on the balance of probabilities based on his later proclamation about being uniquely disadvantaged by being white.

And what bias btw?

Well that was his big mistake. That was just food and drink for you. Enough for you to build your vendetta.
Do better if you're ever on a jury.

Yes coming out with a common racist trope when you've just been apparently been cleared of being a racist arsehole was a "mistake" on his part and I wouldn't be commenting or have an opinion without that bit

I bet you have zero problems with the goady trainer.

Bex5490 · 11/01/2024 16:26

Lol you’re not gonna get any sense out of anyone arguing that someone is bottom of the pile because they’re a white man.

Honestly, protect your energy…

On the face of it she sounds like a melt but who knows what else she puts up, other than being there for his outburst she hasn't played much of a part in his downfall

Have a learning disability doesn't excuse what he said. Like I said up thread I have friends with dyslexia and they would never dream saying that word. He is a 58 year old man who grew up with all sorts of propaganda about black people in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Half a million pounds in compensation, the downfall here isn't his.

I do wonder what exactly she told her bosses though. PP made the point that this might have been the straw that broke the camel's back. If so. Surely she should have cited that. And not just this one guy as the reason for her needing a week off.
Maybe she did. But no action was taken against the others. Or it was just someone at Lloyd's deciding to make an example of Carl.

Either way she's kept pretty quiet. Which isn't wrong. She didn't ask them to fire Carl after all.

So many racists in this thread.
I have managed to never say the N word at work, on a break, whenever in the work place. And I am black. I have literally never heard a black person use the N word at work in any context. I am baffled why people seem to think they do and so that makes it ok to use it once.

GrammarTeacher · 12/01/2024 11:07

The racism justification on this thread is disgusting.

Lol - ok Dave l. Use it as much as you like. Just don’t be surprised by the reaction you get. Because as much as you wish it hadn’t, most of society has moved beyond your school of thought…

I’m sorry that the world must be such a frustrating place for you. 🤷🏽‍♀️

And yeah him being white is an issue for me, male not so much. I mean if he wasn't white then it'd be a bit like his example and it'd be a black person saying it to another black person, like on a basketball court or in a rap tune and it wouldn't be racist and would be irrelevant to the whole scenario

Oh so you don't actually have a problem with the word itself, it just depends who's saying it 🤔. No, it doesn't matter whether it ends with an er or an a, the word is plain wrong. Your scenario is just as bad because its black people denigrating themselves. Unreal!

You have never heard rap or watched a movie where black people are using the word? Course not. It's used a lot, especially in the States and you know it is. Don't be disingenuous.

So are you suggesting that because it’s used in rap and or American movies that means that this poster uses it a work???

They said they’ve never heard it used or said it at work. How is that disingenuous unless you’re assuming they are a movie director or work in the rap music industry?

Prawncow · 12/01/2024 13:30

Racists come out with all kind of bollocks. They throw out whataboutery, criticise anti-racist efforts as ‘stoking divisions’ and usually manage to paint themselves as the persecuted victims of some kind of liberal witch hunt.
