Wanting to change DD2s name as no one else seems to likely

TeddyBares · 08/01/2024 00:03

I hate posting this, DD2 is 8 weeks old, she’s perfect but I’m super sleep deprived so probably extra sensitive.
DD1 is 2 when she was born everyone complimented her name, and even know still do.
DD2 gets a mix of aw lovely to just down right to “oh like the fabric softener (more so over text than in person)” it’s making me really sad. Today we went out for lunch and the waitress asked their names told her and she went gosh that’s a gorgeous name in reference to DD1s but nothing about DD2s.
Im thinking we should just change it? I live her name and always imagined having a little girl with the name but wouldn’t want her to feel like her name is ugly or hate her name (I don’t like my name and get some annoying comments so wouldn’t want that). DH thinks I’m being silly and we live her name so that’s all that matters.
AIBU wanting to change it?
Her name is Leonora as I know people will be curious.

But its not like the fabric softener... its a completely different. I'd just make that point... its like someone saying the name Arielle is like the washing powder...

rosesandbees · 09/01/2024 18:24

Both gorgeous names. If you love it don’t change it.

OceanSounds123 · 09/01/2024 18:38

I love both names.

Stranger3 · 09/01/2024 18:38

oh my gosh my 2 yr old DD is Leonora and we have nothing but compliments. Please don’t change it OP, you are right to love the name! It’s beautiful

Boysgrownbutstillathome · 09/01/2024 18:39

Leonora is a beautiful name. A friend of mine has a daughter with that name, she tends to shorten it to Nora, which I think is a pity.

SoozyWoozy5 · 09/01/2024 18:44

I thought you were going to say it’s Comfort!
Leonora is a beautiful name..

StaunchMomma · 09/01/2024 18:48

You can never please everyone with name choices, nor do you need to. Many people prefer everyday names, others like something different.

I think Leonora is a much prettier name than Annabel, personally. I'm sure lots of people will agree with me and lots disagree. It really doesn't matter what we think, though.

I also agree that 'What a pretty name' is exactly the kind of thing people say to cute little girls. Not so much to babies.

You've picked a lovely name. Don't doubt yourself, OP.

Pointynoseowner · 09/01/2024 18:50

It's a beautiful name

StaunchMomma · 09/01/2024 18:51

I should add, when I read your OP my mind got absolutely stuck on 'Bold 2-in-1' and you can bet that somewhere some poor kid has actually been lumbered with that

Nannygoat151 · 09/01/2024 19:01

I was thinking comfort 😂

Scotcheggsontoast · 09/01/2024 19:09

Keep it it's nice. What would you change to anyway? I think you'd always regret changing it - especially as it was because of other people's opinions, and you love the name!

I have colleague called this - everyone calls her Leo :-) I personally think it's great when names can have a gender neutral shortened option.

Calmdown14 · 09/01/2024 19:12

Glad you are happy now.

It is perhaps just that it's quite a strong sounding name (I don't think that's a negative) but it might seem a bit incongruous on a newborn.

When strong willed little Leonora is having a toddler strop or won't come out of the park you will appreciate your choice. Both because she'll grow into it and because it is a great name to say in a firm voice when you need them to stop!

I think that naming for the cute tiny stage and not thinking about a child or adult with the name is a bigger mistake.

Melx42 · 09/01/2024 19:14

My beautiful grandma was Leonora and if your daughter is 1/8th of the woman she was she will be lucky! It’s a beautiful name and congratulations

Pollythenurse · 09/01/2024 19:15

Both names are beautiful - your daughters will grow into their names.

Summerpeachblossom · 09/01/2024 19:18

I think Leonora is a beautiful name. Much prefer it to Annabel. Lots of nn possibilities - Nora, Lenny etc.

I have similar comments about my daughters' names. The second one has a more well known 'prettier' name - cue lots of gushing comments about how lovely it is. Very few people said that about my first daughter's name, which is more unusual and 'stronger' sounding - I prefer it. Don't let it bother you. All that matters is that you like it.

OhRightyThen · 09/01/2024 19:19

Stick with it and ignore everyone else. Someone always has to say something...Christ knows why. My eldest is an Oscar and I was asked "oh like Oscar pistorius, I hope he's not similar" because he was on trial at the time. I mean really ?! Thousands upon thousands of little Oscar's out there now so we're all f*cked if they're "all the same" 😅

Fwiw I also think it's a beautiful name. And congratulations!

twinmum2007 · 09/01/2024 19:30

"No, not like fabric softener, silly, after the heroine of the Edgar Allen Poe poem". That'll shut 'em up.

Ggttl · 09/01/2024 19:35

I was expecting a bad name, but I really like Leonora! Definitely stick with it.

Catkildonan · 09/01/2024 19:38

Leonora is a beautiful name, meaning compassion or light. It also is linked to Eleanor.
I think you’re just having a dip in your confidence after having the baby. Btw it is nothing like the fabric softener!! Wishing you the best.

Itiswhysofew · 09/01/2024 19:41

Don't change it. It is a gorgeous name; as is Annabel.

CallMeBettyBoop · 09/01/2024 19:55

Leonora is beautiful

Paininthederriere · 09/01/2024 19:59

Can’t believe pple have commented on her name being like the fabric softener OP. The name is lovely & anyone commenting are rude & ignorant. Keep it it’s a lovely name.

Turquoise123 · 09/01/2024 20:09

Both very nice names why think of changing? Neither of them is particularly unusual/ difficult to say or spell . Not seeing an issue here

Vladi10 · 09/01/2024 20:12

Glad you’re keeping it, I’m a bit late to the party, but I love the name! Ignore the haters, you probably feel worse with being sleep deprived like you say and the hormones! It’s a beautiful name. Fabric softener didn’t even cross my mind, I was thinking comfort when you said that!!

Orangeandgold · 09/01/2024 20:18

I really like Leonora. It’s a lovely name and very unique. The right people will get it. I have a very unique name and hated it when I was younger - I find ignorant ‘not so cultured’ people have a strange reaction to my name whereas being older and interacting with different people, I get more compliments than blankness.

People hate newness and unfamiliarity. Annabel is a pretty name but also familiar.

I wouldn’t change the name.

My DD also has a unique name - being young she did have to constantly correct people (poor her) but now she gets compliments and loves her name and acknowledges that it’s unique. Although her middle name is familiar and she tells me when she’s older she will use that 😅she has options
