Wanting to change DD2s name as no one else seems to likely

TeddyBares · 08/01/2024 00:03

I hate posting this, DD2 is 8 weeks old, she’s perfect but I’m super sleep deprived so probably extra sensitive.
DD1 is 2 when she was born everyone complimented her name, and even know still do.
DD2 gets a mix of aw lovely to just down right to “oh like the fabric softener (more so over text than in person)” it’s making me really sad. Today we went out for lunch and the waitress asked their names told her and she went gosh that’s a gorgeous name in reference to DD1s but nothing about DD2s.
Im thinking we should just change it? I live her name and always imagined having a little girl with the name but wouldn’t want her to feel like her name is ugly or hate her name (I don’t like my name and get some annoying comments so wouldn’t want that). DH thinks I’m being silly and we live her name so that’s all that matters.
AIBU wanting to change it?
Her name is Leonora as I know people will be curious.

Leonora is a beautiful name and quite unusual, you should definitely keep it.

This.

Leonore and Leonora can be pronounced either way but I'm most used to the o being silent in both, so Le-nor and Le-nor-ah. Kind of like people say Le-nard rather than Leo-nard for Leonard (eg Leonard Skinner)

Just because you personally would decide to pronounce a name incorrectly, does not mean that is how it should be pronounced. The correct pronunciation is Lee-uh-naw-ruh.

Emma8888 · 08/01/2024 15:59

BricksTricks, I am not incorrect. They are both used. It's entirely why this website has the 'o' in brackets, indicating it can be pronounced or omitted: www.thebump.com/b/leonora-baby-name

A quick google suggests Le-oh-nor-ah is the American pronunciation.

NoHeavenNoMore · 08/01/2024 16:16

Beautiful name. Please stick with it.

JusticeTrade · 08/01/2024 16:16

The only young woman I know with this name in the UK is always called Le-uh-nor-a. She is born and raised in London.

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 08/01/2024 16:23

I think Leonora is a beautiful name I would keep it.

KarenNotAKaren · 08/01/2024 16:23

Your girls have beautiful names! Don’t change a thing xx

JusticeTrade · 08/01/2024 16:30

My eldest dd born 20+ years ago also has what is a classic name but more common in other cultures (Italian, Spanish speaking and German) and I had never heard it used in the UK, although I'm sure it has been.
We relocated internationally later and both times her name was in much more regular use where we were living.
Still, she tells me now that she didn't really like that she had a more unusual name.
However now she absolutely loves it, especially as she complimented on it constantly. She is also building her own business in the arts and it suits her profession really well, as many people know her and remember her from her first name alone.
Stick to your guns, you'll be glad you did! Judging from the enthusiasm on here you may find its not that unusual in a few more years anyway!

Bigcat25 · 08/01/2024 16:43

I like your daughters name! My boss commented that her first baby got more compliments than the second, (in regards to her looks) so I wonder if people tend to be a bit more excited for someone's first child than their second? Not that it should matter, but I think my boss's second daughter was probably just as good looking as the first. (She liked people telling her that her children were beautiful.)

Annabel? Perfectly fine name. (I don't see any connection to fabric conditioner.)

It’s Leonara (Lenor) that’s the connection…

I love Leonora! Weirdly, I’m reading a book now with a Leonora who goes by Leni, I had been thinking what a lovely name it was!

Are you reading The Great Alone?

snowlady4 · 08/01/2024 19:21

Star81 · 08/01/2024 00:07

I thought the name was going to be Ariel which would have crossed my mind but Leonora is gorgeous I wouldn’t make the Lenor connection at all. Some people are just rude. Ignore

I thought comfort! Also would not have connected the name with Leonora with a washing product. People are just horrible.

Emmadaily · 08/01/2024 19:37

My friends new granddaughter is named Leonora and I think it's beautiful.
Her mummy is Italian so guess it is an Italian name ?
Both your children have beautiful names you chose well
Don't change her beautiful name

ShoePalaver · 08/01/2024 19:45

I think all 3 are great names. (How refreshing to have a poster who actually says what the names are!)

Bluefk · 08/01/2024 19:59

FedddUppp · 08/01/2024 19:10

Are you reading The Great Alone?

I am 😄 and really enjoying it too!

Chocolatepiggy · 08/01/2024 20:38

I had a friend I Secondary who had this name, such a pretty name. Don't change it. Honestly people's opinions mean nothing and it's lovely an unusual

RKP123 · 08/01/2024 20:47

I think Leonora is a pretty name, I like Annabel too. No matter what name you choose there'll be some comment.

chattyness · 08/01/2024 20:47

I knew a girl called Leonora at school nobody ever called her Lenor, it was either Leonora or Lee or Leo, keep the name it's really pretty, tell everyone who criticises or makes that comparison to get stuffed !

MammaTill2Pojkar · 08/01/2024 21:09

TeddyBares · 08/01/2024 00:05

Her name is Annabel

Out of both of their names I prefer Leonora, I prefer more uncommon unusual names and am not a fan of more common ones (having a very plain common name myself).

Ourshoddyhouse · 08/01/2024 21:23

I know a Leonora, not once has it made me think of Lenor. It's a beautiful name.

Sartre · 08/01/2024 21:24

I’d guess you are just sleep deprived and sensitive. There’s nothing wrong with the name whatsoever! I just named my DC what I thought fit best, didn’t really care about other people’s opinions.

BricksTricks · 08/01/2024 21:39

Emma8888 · 08/01/2024 15:59

A quick google suggests Le-oh-nor-ah is the American pronunciation.

Your Google appears to be broken. One random baby name website being incorrect does not mean you should go round mispronouncing names despite hundreds of other sites giving you the correct pronunciation. If someone wants LEH-naw-ah, they can name the baby Lenora. If they use Leonora, then they would want Lee-uh-NAW-ah.

Mayjune11 · 08/01/2024 21:45

I like it! To hell what others think if you love it. My dd has a name which people on here often say is awful and ugly but I always knew I would call my daughter the name. Even some family members hated it at first. Hopefully she doesn’t also hate it when she grows up 🥺

TheaBrandt · 08/01/2024 21:51

The first person outside the family I told dd2s name just said...nothing. She was another mum in hospital and had just called her twin sons the dullest two boys names possible so our tastes certainly not aligned but it really shook me at the time. Stuck with it and dd2 and I love her name as do most people.

Leonora is beautiful and very unique, I've never heard of it but it's lovely. If you love it then focus on that, ignore others.

It's can't be VERY unique, it either is or isn't, there aren't degrees of uniqueness
