Jigsaws - what sort of psychopath does a jigsaw

And doesn't start with the edges?

DH has started our new one and is randomly putting middle pieces together.

AIBU to LTB immediately and fill in the sectioning paperwork.

Removing the poll as there is obviously no-one sane who would vote against me.

Lightheated btw.

Nice username Wink

Oh wow. LTB. I love jigsaws and this is just criminal.

How is that even possible? It has to end somewhere 😂

The bits around the outside are just like the bits in the middle, so yep, the "edges" are knobbly not flat.

🤣

Damn, I'd not noticed your username on the boards before changing my name to this — sorry!

I change quite a bit anyway, so I'll move on to something else to avoid any confusion.

During the pandemic my mum and nephew went mad for jigsaws. They'd finish one, leave it on the other person's doorstep to swap or they'd order another one online. Anyway, both are definitely "edges first" strategists. I tend to be the same.

I bought my mum a 5000 piece jigsaw for her birthday last year and she couldn't find anywhere in her little---- house to do it. No space, apparently. It had taken over. My mum told me never to buy such a behemoth ever again.

Noooo!

Don't. I use this name infrequently. I've had it since DT filmed that episode but only use it for rare or possibly outing threads requiring a name change. I have a usual name and literally, hundreds of spares after 20yrs on here.

Me too!! I have been known to apologise to microwaves and kettles when they have given long service but have to be sent to recycling because they can't be saved.

And I lower them as gently as possible into the recycling skip.

@Eeepsh sorry I meant to say yes edges 1st for sure!!

@BeyondMyWits thank-you for confirming that about the non-edgy edges

I have a friend who picks up a random piece, looks to see where it sits on the image and lays it on the table in the rough corresponding area. Each. Piece.

Now that's a psycho.

Once I have done the edges I may sort of do that by grouping the non-edges with their likely neighbours

Ah that's a relief — I was a bit worried I might have been flolloping around ruining someone's hard-earned reputation Grin I guess it's okay to stick till I switch, then; thanks for the explanation! — I just didn't want to phrase it as asking you if you'd like me to change, in case you felt bound by politeness to say no.

A kettle might be a more loyal and life-enhancing friend than many humans I've known.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 06/01/2024 23:03

I rarely do jigsaws in real life, but quite enjoy online ones.

I normally start with the edges, but don't necessarily do all of the edges first if there's an obvious set of related pieces I can easily put together, or if a few of the edge pieces are just proving difficult to find. Very often if there's sky at the top of the picture I'll end up doing the second or even third row of sky before I've finished doing the rest of the edges.

It doesn't bother me in the slightest what order other people do their pieces in. What did surprise me recently was finding out that some people like to look at the picture while they're doing it. I'd always thought the whole point was to put it together by studying the pieces alone.

BreakingAndBroke · 06/01/2024 23:07

Don't you do it by feature?! Like, do all the bits of sky, or river, or building, or face, or rocket or whatever?
