Jigsaws - what sort of psychopath does a jigsaw

And doesn't start with the edges?

DH has started our new one and is randomly putting middle pieces together.

AIBU to LTB immediately and fill in the sectioning paperwork.

Removing the poll as there is obviously no-one sane who would vote against me.

Lightheated btw.

Well if I see 2 middle pieces that obviously go together I'm not going to sit and ignore them while I hunt out the sides 🙄

Ps, you should have enabled voting, quite arrogant to assume you're right.

Lighthearted ofcourse ❤️

I have a friend who picks up a random piece, looks to see where it sits on the image and lays it on the table in the rough corresponding area. Each. Piece.

Now that's a psycho.

I have a terrible tendency to do this. How my DH hasn't killed me yet I do not know.

Never start with the edges - it's way too fragile and you might lose a bit.
I start with a key object, to create a solid blob to work with - an animal, a fireplace, a house etc. Then build out from there.

Never lost an edge piece.

Roiesin57 · 05/01/2024 22:50

Your dh is deranged! Get the 4 corners in place, join them up with the edge pieces then fill in the middle 🤷‍♀️

YoullCatchYourDeathInTheFog · 05/01/2024 22:51

I was in a charity shop the other day which had a jigsaw club. Join the club, and you can buy jigsaws half price if you pledge to return them when you've finished them. Genius.

MasterBeth · 05/01/2024 22:52

What kind of psychopath does a jigsaw when it’s not even lockdown.

Whowhatwherewhenwhy1 · 05/01/2024 22:56

If there are two doing the jigsaw one person does the edges and the other pieces together anything else they can!

Remaker · 05/01/2024 22:56

I always start with the edges! At least you can feel like you’ve accomplished something.

I was ill last year and a ‘friend’ gave me a jigsaw that was an image of many coloured jigsaw pieces. Jesus Christ woman I’m doing chemo, do you want me to lose the will to live?

DS16 gave me a jigsaw for Christmas- a lovely scene with cottages and bicycles and not too much sky. That boy has been brought up right 😁

I'm a real psycho. I do all the edges first but then I sort and group all the pieces, so all the two outs and two ins together, all the three outs and one in together, all the three ins and one out together...you get my drift. Then I can relax and try to do the puzzle 😁

It seems crazy, but as you're doing the puzzle you can often tell that a piece you're looking for has, for example, two "innies" next to each other, and you've a smaller group of pieces to look through to find the bit you want.

You are my jigsaw hero. Proper sorting. Not enough people do that, and the lack of logic of these people infuriates me.

Jellykat · 05/01/2024 22:56

@YoullCatchYourDeathInTheFog One of my local charity shops advertise for volunteer jigsaw makers.. you know when you buy one it says 'complete' on the box, well thats because one of the volunteers has completed it.
I thought about it, but realized i would lose a large chunk of life if i went down that road!
Great idea though.

This thread is making me very uneasy. There is only one way.

I have a jigsaw table with drawers. Mainly so the cats don’t mistake the pieces for cat litter yuck. But it enables sorting. After the edges are done I sort by colour into the drawers. Than within the colour by shape. Most satisfying.

pinneddownbytabbies · 05/01/2024 23:05

just put a sheet over it

I've got 4 cats. A sheet is no protection from them, let me tell you. They would treat it as a challenge. 😂

A jigsaw table. With drawers.

Edges first, then decide - top to bottom or bottom to top..side to side, or if I am feeling brave central column then work to edges..

AutumnFroglets · 05/01/2024 23:13

I was going to mention...if anybody has a laptop...that the Microsoft store has a jigsaw app and <whispers> you can magnify the pieces if you have eyesight troubles AND you get to decide how many pieces you want to do.

But this stunned me into silence 😱

Twwodoorsaway · 05/01/2024 23:21

It’s definitely edges first for me. I genuinely have never considered that someone wouldn’t do that! I’ve just started my second Christmas jigsaw, it has no picture with it which I’m finding rather disconcerting as you’re meant to solve a murder mystery as you do it. After edges I just pick out bits that look like they belong together and go from there.

Jigsaw table you say…

off to google…

ichundich · 05/01/2024 23:28

Why waste your life doing jigsaws anyway when you can be on MN instead.

WhyAmINotCleaning · 05/01/2024 23:29

What crazy person does a jigsaw full stop? What's the point?

Greetings, people of Earth! We've heard that you enjoy a diversion by the name of Jig-Saw… but we Xrean must admit to some confusion. From the broadcasts we have intercepted to date, it seemed that you pay each other to transfer attractive images to large rigid boards, ideal for display purposes, but before delivery, the seller mutilates the picture, necessitating hours of reconstruction before it can be displayed. We know you are an intelligent species and this cannot be the case — could we clear up the misunderstanding?

BrandyandGinger · 05/01/2024 23:45

I look at the pieces and put them down in roughly the right place to get started. My youngest DC does the edges around me, despairing of my unorthodox method.
This Christmas we did a 1000 piece jigsaw together and when I went back to work they did another one by themselves, by the conventional method.

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/01/2024 23:47

Your average three year old? 😁

@Eeepsh I'm shaking and crying at your post.
Your husband must be stopped.
Edges first and always😉

When people say this I think of the lady screaming in the chapel thread.
I always start with the corner pieces. Then I do the edges. What freak doesn't do corners and edges first? Almost forgiven if the edges are all one colour.

Laserbird16 · 05/01/2024 23:57

There are jigsaws without edges they were definitely invented by sociopaths
