So worried about my baby, can any mums helps

Mangochutneey · 03/01/2024 11:00

I have joined mumsnet specifically to ask about this as I am now feeling desperate. My baby had his one year vaccines this time last week, four injections in total including the MMR. The following day he had a high temperature of over 40, called 111 when nothing brought it down and they said to take to a and e. We did this and they said he was fine and temperature was high but probably the vaccine. Sent home. He has been an entirely different baby since that day. Temperature over 40 continued on and off for first 4 days, that has now stopped.

But my baby is looking vacant, not engaging, staring into space, not playing. We went to the supermarket yesterday and two separate people commented that ‘if looks could kill,’… he looks angry. This is not like him. The biggest worry I have is sleep… he slept 14.5 hours last night and is now having a nap again already after waking up at 9:30am? He did the same yesterday and also had a 2.5 hour nap in the afternoon as well. That’s almost 18 hours of sleep a day?

I am very pro vaccines and we are paying for the chicken pox one soon but this has really scared me. Why is he sleeping so much so long after? Why has his temperament changed?

Right, so we have:
Diabetes/hypoglycaemia
Epilepsy
Hydrocephalus
Meningitis

Anyone else got anything the OP should get her seemingly healthy child tested for whilst she's at it?

ValerieMoore · 03/01/2024 22:54

@AnneValentine you test for lactate it’s released into the blood from muscles contracting. I’m not going to comment on the next part but the OP should trust her instincts on it.

This is a very similar attitude to the GP who looked at my relative with a smile and asked "and is this your first child?"

"People like her", ie the person undergoing the treatment or their responsible adult, are the only feasible ones to make "decisions like this." As we don't yet live in a totalitarian state where the government can mandate inoculation. And yes, I'm sure you would rather they could, but despite being pro-vaccine, I am glad they cannot. As they cannot, maybe it's better to explain things to people with a little patience and dignity rather than gnashing your teeth because they are allowed to choose for themselves and their families, and thereby alienating them.

But I suspect it's the last thing on your mind, because people like you usually only care about showing how rational you are by putting down others.

I have spent quite a significant chunk of my life politely explaining to people like this why they are wrong and it gets you nowhere. I have no issue with them making decisions that puts their lives at risk, what is not ok is when they make poor decisions for their children. Medical neglect should be taken far more seriously.

In some types of seizures, not all, and again it’s not a go to blood test and is not good standard. Partly because it can also indicate numerous other things. Not just some types of seizures. How about you get off google and realise you’re wrong?

Oh and the OP did trust her instincts. She went to the GP who said no concerns. Yet here you arm chair diagnosing and giving weird advice.

I’m not on Google I’m in university and have first and second hand experience of seizures and what happens. What’s weird is you taking this so personally.

Mum1011 · 03/01/2024 23:07

If this isn’t some sort of post to promote vaccinations then I would certainly recommend you visit children’s health defense and watch the bus tour stories from parents.

you can also download and read the inserts from what was injected into your child, they aren’t given to parents usually.

I’m sure you will see that your Childs symptoms are all detailed as side effects, not “coincidence” as some may wish to believe.

You absolutely do not have any professional experience or training when it comes to seizures.

AnneValentine · 03/01/2024 22:10

The fact that you don’t know why the dose is the same and compared it to calpol is precisely why people like you shouldn’t be making decisions like this.

As opposed to whom making the decision? Forced upon children by the government?

children and babies have serious adverse reactions, including death from childhood vaccinations. This is listed in the product inserts, which I’ll bet you have never looked at 😜

Here’s the nice guidance for assessment following seizure.

You will note, as said, first test is EEG.

And then you may consider blood tests. You will note list of bloods suggested does not include lactate.

Paediatric advice here, just in case you want to tell me it’s different.

And as you’re so interested in lactate, one of many things it can indicate which is why it isn’t a priority for seizures, it can also indicate heart failure, sepsis etc.

You really want to bet on that?

And yes, absolutely I would rather educated professionals made the decisions over people who don’t know the difference between calpol and a vaccine.

ValerieMoore · 03/01/2024 23:24

@AnneValentine I’m not reading that but I never said it was only lactic acid they test for (and I did say lactic acid maybe) As it is a blood test is the first thing our hospitals actually do. You really are very argumentative just for the sake of it, and you are being rude to people for no reason.

Yes, really.
While you are doing your reading please ensure you also check the studies on calpol (paracetamol) and why it is risky to administer at the same time as those shots.

Perhaps those “educated” professionals will offer an explanation as to why children go floppy…oh they do, it’s a side effect in the insert 😅

No - you said they need a blood test for seizure activity which I have now told you, and evidenced with nice guidance, repeatedly that isn’t what they do.

I also asked you what they tested and that was your answer. You didn’t mention of the things actually recommended just a random test that isn’t typically used for seizures.

I am not being rude. I am getting frustrated with incorrect advice and information that’s potentially going to make a new mother anxious from a person who clearly does not what know they’re talking about.

Why do I need to read anything about calpol?

Or about children being floppy?

Why are you telling me this information as if it has any relevance to anything being discussed here?

ValerieMoore · 03/01/2024 23:34

I said they test for some protein. Lactic acid, maybe. I never got an ecg for seizure neither did two people I know. We had a blood test and a doctor confirmed it. We just want the mum to know she can get her baby assessed better if she chooses. She is going to be anxious anyway.

PriOn1 · 03/01/2024 23:41

Hi OP. I don’t know if you’re still reading, but as babies fall asleep, their eyes can roll so if your baby is very, very tired, it may just be that he is in the point of dropping off, even if he then wakes again.

Anyway, I hope you and he are okay. It’s terrifying having a sick baby, but mostly they do get better. Sending love.

since you keep talking about calpol I thought you might find it interesting to research the medicine further 😃

I don’t need to research it. Contraindications between analgesic antipyretic drugs and vaccines has nothing to do with the point being made. Someone who thinks vaccine dosing should mirror that of analgesic antipyretic drugs.

No I have not forgotten the post, but you’ve definitely gone anti vaxxer rogue.

No I’m not. You keep making nonsense statements. You’re given the actual information and then flat refuse to read it. That is unreasonable.

I am supposed to believe that randomly at university you recalled that they might have tested lactate after you had a seizure. Come off it.

Not specifically but when someone gets unwell with whatever it is there should be indicators in the blood. Why would I lie ?

They run a tox screen to rule out drug use as a seizure cause. Or poisoning. Or sepsis. So you may have had a blood test.

As a parent of a child with seizures he's never had a blood test for kacfic acid, he's had 2 EEGs, a CT scan and 2 MRIs as well as extensive genetic testing.
