My bum crack smells!

NC for obvious reasons!!

This is so disgusting and TMI so huge apologies in advance!

For years now my bum crack has had a horrible sort of fishy, putrid smell 😳

I had a baby a few years ago and got piles that I’ve never been able to fully get rid of but even when I had nearly got rid of them, the smell was still there. I think I must get quite sweaty as I get itchy and it’s when I’ve itched that I’ve noticed the smell 😳

I’ve just had a shower and scrubbed my anus and between my bum cheeks (only with aqueous cream as I can’t use scented stuff or I get thrush) stepped out of the shower. Ran my finger up the top of my bum crack and nope, smell still there 😳😳

This isn’t normal is it, I know I probably need to go to the GP but it’s so bloody embarrassing! I’d be mortified!

Has anyone else had this?

Erm... 😳

dementedpixie · 02/01/2024 20:06

Do you mean the area in the folds from the base of your spine down towards your anus? It could be fungal e.g. thrush as that area can get sweaty. Has the skin broken down at all? My first step is sudocrem and then it may need thrush cream

VeganNugsNotDrugs · 02/01/2024 20:07

Fungal infection. Shower, dry well, canesten. Once cleared up, waft a bit of talc around after a shower

sprigatito · 02/01/2024 20:08

Try athlete's foot powder.

mrsclaus1984 · 02/01/2024 20:08

Could be a skin infection?

Does your GP do one of the online consultation things where you fill in a form abs give details of the problem and then they get in touch with you to arrange a phone call/appointment? Might be a way of seeking help, but without having to explain the issue fully from scratch? (Pun not intended) .

TiddyTidTwo · 02/01/2024 20:09

Call the GP. In the meantime. Id have a bath and add vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. Bet that's cure it

Pablosdog · 02/01/2024 20:09

This has great reviews op https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B009P2745I?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Blumarine · 02/01/2024 20:11

Aqueous cream does not clean in my experience. I’ve tried washing with it and it doesn’t get rid of smells. Only soap does that.

These are not always painful. You could have a tract discharging bad smelling fluid from a tiny opening.

Wash yourself twice daily with a solid bar of soap, ensure the area is completely dry, use a bit of powder to absorb sweat and see your GP if the smell persists.

Erm... 😳

What’s your point? Reactions like that are not going to help the OP feel any better about posting for advice.

Call 111.

StaunchMomma · 02/01/2024 20:20

If the smell is one you're not used to (as in not pooey) and it's itchy, I'd think it's probably some kind of yeast infection.

Try canesten and wash with soap twice daily, drying very well. If it's not in hand in a few days then I do think you need to go to the GP.

Just try to remember they've seen it all before.

mamahg · 02/01/2024 20:20

Go to the GP it sounds like you need cream. And I do recommend washing your bum after having a poo. Poop can leave residue that you may not notice it's there after just wiping. You may think it's clean but it's not. Honestly it's the best thing for hygiene and you can use soap on that area, just don't get it on your lady bits as you can get thrush.

steff13 · 02/01/2024 20:21

For the smell, I'd use Lume, it's great for all the smells in all the areas.

But a fishy smell is really not normal, I'd go to the doctor first.

winniethepooped · 02/01/2024 20:24

If you are referring to the point at which your back meets the crease of your buttocks then I'd follow other posters advice re: thrush/canesten/talc etc

Even saying that you could have a pilonidal access that is infected...is there pain/swelling?

If you're referring to the area between your vagina and anus or around your anus then you may have a perianal abscess.

Regardless you might want to talk to your GP.

Nothing to be embarrassed about, I work in theatres and it's VERY VERY common to have these issues. And it happens to anyone.

MaryHinges · 02/01/2024 20:05

Erm... 😳

Oh go away

scoobydoo1971 · 02/01/2024 20:28

I have psoriasis there, and in warm conditions I dare say it doesn't exactly smell of roses. When I had a rectal prolapse, it was not easy to remain BO free before surgery stapled my guts back inside. If it smells fishy, it could be bacterial vaginosis coming from the front end. Definitely go and see a GP, as they have seen everything and won't be slightly perturbed by your odour.

Pigsinpainauchocolat · 02/01/2024 20:30

The GP will be very used to bums and just want to get you sorted. Try to get over your embarrassment and get an appt.

Iamacatslave · 02/01/2024 20:18

Call 111.

Hello 111...
Yes, Hello. My butt crack smells...

Daphnedu · 02/01/2024 20:38

GPs eat bums for breakfast. They’ve heard it all before. Maybe it’s not quite drying or do you wear tight trousers in the day? Sounds miserable hope you can get it sorted.

Thanks for the replies.

Okay, I’ll try washing with actual soap and drying throughly and then putting canesten cream in that area and see if things improve.

I have had BV quite a few times and do get the odd flare up sometimes but once treated it seems to go for a while, I’ve had swabs and they’ve come back clear for BV.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 02/01/2024 20:40

I'd try some canestan cream rubbed in for a few days and if it still smells I'd see the doctor

greenacrylicpaint · 02/01/2024 20:41

tbh before going to the gp I would try washing with gentle soap, maybe sitting in the bathtub with dettol (instructions for skin are on the bottle).
