My bum crack smells!

NC for obvious reasons!!

This is so disgusting and TMI so huge apologies in advance!

For years now my bum crack has had a horrible sort of fishy, putrid smell 😳

I had a baby a few years ago and got piles that I’ve never been able to fully get rid of but even when I had nearly got rid of them, the smell was still there. I think I must get quite sweaty as I get itchy and it’s when I’ve itched that I’ve noticed the smell 😳

I’ve just had a shower and scrubbed my anus and between my bum cheeks (only with aqueous cream as I can’t use scented stuff or I get thrush) stepped out of the shower. Ran my finger up the top of my bum crack and nope, smell still there 😳😳

This isn’t normal is it, I know I probably need to go to the GP but it’s so bloody embarrassing! I’d be mortified!

Has anyone else had this?

Have you considered it might be your finger?

Come again?

Wash yourself twice daily with a solid bar of soap, ensure the area is completely dry, use a bit of powder to absorb sweat and see your GP if the smell persists.

I agree try soap but if still same it could well be an infection and worth speaking to the GP or nurse about.

Aqueous cream does not clean in my experience. I’ve tried washing with it and it doesn’t get rid of smells. Only soap does that.

This would be a start I think. My DD’s doctor gave her some when she was little for mild eczema and it’s basically gooey moisturiser. Maybe good for putting on after cleaning or for a nice smelling toddler, not an adults sweaty bum crack though!

How is dettol ok with vaginas? Doesn’t it get up there and cause…damage? I dunno. Seems wrong some how? And is it a separate skin type of dettol? Or just like the stuff you get in the spray bottle? What even is dettol? Like chemically?

Dettol is an antiseptic and used for skin/wound cleansing. I’m assuming you’ve seen it being used for cleaning the house or something (which it is effective at as it’s antibacterial), but its primary use is for medical purposes

Soap.
That’ll cure it.

Please don’t see your GP.

Icantotallyrelate · 02/01/2024 21:10

You are not alone with this OP. I have had the same issue since having my child. I also have piles that havent cleared and dont think they ever will. It's almost like loose skin left behind. I read that haemorrhoids etc can make you more vulnerable to smells as it is more difficult to keep the are clean and you are more prone to sweating I'm the area. It makes me utterly depressed aswell and do not want to be intimate with partners etc due to it. If you find a cure let me know

Babyblackbear78 · 02/01/2024 21:11

Thrush cream or athletes foot cream- the active ingredients are the same. It’s a fungal infection, I get it under breasts when I get hot and sweaty.

Nothing to be embarrassed about going to the GP though. They’ve seen it all before.

Kopa Haiku Anti Fungal Skin Cream, Athletes Foot Treatment, Jock Itch Treatment for Men, Anti Itch Cream for Humans, Ringworm Antifungal and Eczema Cream for Face & Body https://amzn.eu/d/gDu4pZq

try this after washing with a gentle soap and drying thoroughly. I had similar after a baby and piles.

If it is a fungal infection, then no, soap is not guaranteed to clear it up. As for telling her not to see a GP 🙄

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 02/01/2024 21:17

Mine gets whiffy and a sweaty as I'm in a physically demanding job.......I shower every morning and stick a load of medicated talc down there, it helps massively.

Fucking hell. We don’t need GP’s when we’ve got this tit who apparently has the power of psychic diagnosis.

Cuppachuchu · 02/01/2024 21:20

Can I just say, don't 'scrub' your bum, treat it more gently or it will end up sore.

Missingmyusername · 02/01/2024 21:21

Google says:

A fishy odor from the anus can be a sign of an underlying health condition. Possible causes include bacterial vaginosis, rectal fistula, poor hygiene, and certain foods. Treatment options may include antibiotics, surgery, improved hygiene, and dietary changes.

Is anyone else seeing this thread title in the “Shopping” trending topics panel as well as the ordinary general one?

All sympathy to the op but it’s quite funny seeing it mixed in with the wafty S&B thread titles

Anyway fwiw, I’m guessing fungal infection as others have said — and definitely fine to see your GP!

@Babyblackbear78 you really really can’t go to a medical professional and complain that you smell if you haven’t used soap. Honestly, you may was well turn up in your underwear when it’s snowing and complain that you’re cold! Use some common sense!!

OhcantthInkofaname · 02/01/2024 21:25

LUME after a trip to the gyn!

MrsBellsBoots · 02/01/2024 21:20

Are you a GP?

@MrsBellsBoots yes I am. And I’ve seen some pretty poorly patients today. I’d be very disappointed if my time was wasted seeing someone whose problem was a smell but they haven’t tried washing properly.

WishIMite · 02/01/2024 21:26

I use mild soap and one of those plastic floofer things on my arse crack. Otherwise it’s whiffy. Don’t think there’s anything unusual there but it does need soap and a bit of a scrub.

Floralnomad · 02/01/2024 21:29

I wouldn’t use a cream , get hold of some Daktarin powder , it’s great for jock itch which is also a fungal infection .

thebabessavedme · 02/01/2024 21:29

@MrsBellsBoots I don't believe you.

Lolaandbehold · 02/01/2024 21:30

OP, I have no advice re fishy bum cracks but I am most amused that your thread is trending in Shopping 👀
