My bum crack smells!

NC for obvious reasons!!

This is so disgusting and TMI so huge apologies in advance!

For years now my bum crack has had a horrible sort of fishy, putrid smell 😳

I had a baby a few years ago and got piles that I’ve never been able to fully get rid of but even when I had nearly got rid of them, the smell was still there. I think I must get quite sweaty as I get itchy and it’s when I’ve itched that I’ve noticed the smell 😳

I’ve just had a shower and scrubbed my anus and between my bum cheeks (only with aqueous cream as I can’t use scented stuff or I get thrush) stepped out of the shower. Ran my finger up the top of my bum crack and nope, smell still there 😳😳

This isn’t normal is it, I know I probably need to go to the GP but it’s so bloody embarrassing! I’d be mortified!

Has anyone else had this?

Sorry, that was for @MumblesParty

Soap.
That’ll cure it.

Please don’t see your GP.

Why not? That’s what they are there for!

ThisMama1 · 02/01/2024 21:31

@MumblesParty what an awful GP you must be. The OP has clearly mentioned cleaning herself, products used, her medical history & yet you still say you’d be disappointed to have patient waste your time that doesn’t wash properly. I hope you pay far more attention to your patients notes before you judge them…

frecklejuice · 02/01/2024 21:33

MumblesParty · 02/01/2024 21:26

@MrsBellsBoots yes I am. And I’ve seen some pretty poorly patients today. I’d be very disappointed if my time was wasted seeing someone whose problem was a smell but they haven’t tried washing properly.

FFS I’m glad you’re not my Gp if my embarrassing (for me) problem disappointed you.

Try some of the great suggestions here op and if there isn’t any change please see your GP and hope it isn’t Mumbles!

''How is dettol ok with vaginas? Doesn’t it get up there and cause…damage? I dunno. Seems wrong some how? And is it a separate skin type of dettol? Or just like the stuff you get in the spray bottle? What even is dettol? Like chemically?''

Dettol was like the first picture (dilute as instructed for all kinds of things) long before it became like the second picture ( surface cleaner or laundry disinfectant or mould spray)

Hibiscus scrub is my go to to killing off any odd smells/ bacterial/ fungal stuff. You can get it from the chemist.

Missingpop · 02/01/2024 21:35

Any pain ?? Possibly perisenidal abscess they are vile to have & try using a specialised soap for intimate washing femme gel or a stores own brand is just as good.
A quick trip to your GP to check you have no fungal infection would be a good idea too just incase someone else uses your flannels or towels or incase it could spread to other areas- face vagina etc x good luck x

Ocelotstripes · 02/01/2024 21:36

You should be fine with an unscented bar soap where thrush is concerned. Get one designed for sensitive skin or a natural one (providing it is unscented).

shamelesss · 02/01/2024 21:38

Someone on my social media feed swears by putting witch Hazel on a cotton pad and wiping once a day to keep the area clean, May be worth a try

Katbum · 02/01/2024 21:39

You need to go to the doctor OP! They see it all don’t be embarrassed.

MumblesParty · 02/01/2024 21:39

frecklejuice · 02/01/2024 21:30

@frecklejuice GPs are not there to tell people who smell to use soap. If your skin smells then the first thing you try is washing properly. If that fails, then you can seek medical advice. But first you wash, with soap.
It baffles me that this isn’t obvious.
It also depresses me, because the NHS will never sustain the demand if people need a doctor to tell them to use soap.

TheSilentSister · 02/01/2024 21:39

Check your toilet paper. Seriously. I used Aldi paper and always had a massive itch and odour but obviously didn't connect it til recently. Changed paper and problem gone.

@ThisMama1 she hasn’t used soap. That’s the first thing to try.

Nonimai · 02/01/2024 21:39

Probably just sweat rash. Maybe infected. Sudacrem twice a day on clean skin will sort it.

WhatAChuffinMess · 02/01/2024 21:40

Bum cracks need soap or a lathering cleanser as the lather breaks down bacteria which causes the offending smell.

Pears soap is gentle (Sainsburys do a mint one which is lovely) and Tesco do a good FemFresh knockoff which is half the price.

sarahnurse · 02/01/2024 21:40

It is possible you might have a pilonidal sinus/cyst. It is a kind or cyst at top of bum crack that can leak pus and smell really bad. They are quite common during/ after pregnancy. Look it up on NHS website. You really need to see GP. They look at weird stuff all day long and really don't care....Trust me, I'm a nurse! Good luck x

@thebabessavedme I don’t mind if you believe me or not. Obviously I can’t prove it without identifying myself, which clearly I won’t do. But I am a GP, and have been for over 25 years.

Teats4twins · 02/01/2024 21:41

Apple cider vinegar

@sarahnurse as a nurse, do you not think OP should try soap first?

Ocelotstripes · 02/01/2024 21:43

@shamelesss ’s suggestion might be a good one I do a Witch Hazel and Epsom salt bath for shaving rash and it doesn’t give me thrush.

I just properly snorted tea out my nose at the idea of getting someone to skoosh with the antibac while OP lies legs akimbo.

OP please know that this is quite common and for the most part just requires appropriate hygiene practices using proper soap. If that isn’t working then try anti-fungal s and if that doesn’t work you may need a wee antibiotic cream. I’ve no idea if a pharmacist can prescribe that or if you’d need to go see a GP

You can't be a GP. Anyone with basic medical knowledge knows that soap irritates the delicate PH balance of the vagina, so you absolutely shouldn't be washing your bum & vagina with soap. It'll lead to thrush, potentially BV and more bad smells

MumblesParty · 02/01/2024 21:45

All those people saying see a GP, and slagging me off for saying it’s not a medical problem until soap has been tried…..what would you say if OP was saying that her husband had smelly sweaty groins but wouldn’t use soap, but wanted to see a doctor instead? You’d all tell him to use soap!!

ThisMama1 · 02/01/2024 21:45

@MumblesParty OP has mentioned about recurring BV, yeast, thrush etc & you’re saying just use soap. Either you’re not a GP or you’re just so detached from being a GP for 25 yrs that you either don’t read the medical history or you don’t care

Out of curiosity, what is the treatment for such a cyst? It sounds painful!
