Who should play Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim, Ron, Bogdan, Stephen, Donna, Chris, Patrice, Pauline, and Computer Bob?

Would love Kristin Scott Thomas as Elizabeth!

Would love vinnie jones as Ron. He would be perfect

I do sort of imagined Ray Winstone as Ron, I have to say.

Sir Ben Kingsley as Ibrahim.
Lesley Manville as Joyce.
Helen Mirren as Elizabeth.
Thats as far as Ive got.

I’ve always imagined Gemma Jones as Joyce. Judi Dench about ten years ago would have been a perfect Elizabeth.

Not sure about Ibrahim, whose supposed to be so elegant and handsome. Amr Waked has the right look but is too young. Pete Postlethwaite would have been a good Ron.

Freema Agyeman would be good for Donna, I think. Maybe Cillian Murphy for Bogdan.

Are they adapting for TV?

No bogdan needs to be big and imposing

I thought Penelope Wilton for Joyce. For some reason I often read Joyce's chapters with PWs voice in my head.

Love this thread! I have a long commute, and love thinking of fantasy casting....

I wish they were making it into a TV series, rather than a film...worried they'll take too much out of the books to fit it into a film.

I’ve been listening to the audiobooks so Lesley Manville has got to be Elizabeth for me.

I suppose Judi Dench or Maggie Smith for Joyce.

Harriet Walter would be great for Elizabeth. Olivia Coleman would be good but perhaps not old enough. Colin Firth or Jeremy Irons for Stephen.

Mark Strong would be very good for Ibrahim but he isn’t actually Egyptian/a POC.

I always imagined Joanna Lumley for Elizabeth - slightly posh and self assured but with a very cheeky sort of side!

I like the idea of Cush Jumbo for Donna, and Stephen Mangan for Chris.

Ray Winston for Ron?

And maybe Fiona Shaw for Elizabeth...loved her narration of the book on Audible.

I think they will be wary of casting anyone too old as they will want to option to make the full series. I think they will cast slightly younger characters and age them up a bit

He is but he would be perfect.

I picture Art Malik as Ibrahim, I am not sure if he is slightly too young though.

Love the idea of Ray Winston for Ron. The actor who played Mohammed Al Fayed in the Crown might make a good Ibrahim. Charles Dance for Stephen!

Ibrahim = Art Malik
Ron = Ray Winstone

Have thought about this a lot and am excited this will be directed by Steven Spielberg. Can't wait to find out what the actual casting will be.
