I can't stare at another shelf staring at shampoo

Posting for traffic because I'm going crazy.

The shampoo I use is super cheap currently, generic own-brand supermarket anti-dandruff shampoo but my hair is not doing good right now.

For A MONTH I keep trying to change my shampoo. I get so overwhelmed with researching it because you get SO MANY conflicting answers (and just so many answers anyway).
I'm constantly going to Boots and just staring at the shelf trying to decide which and end up walking out in stress.

I've bought the Mielle shampoo (TikTok hype), but now I keep reading stuff online that it's made people's hair fall out!!!

Anyway, I am obviously being unreasonable getting stressed about shampoo, but can I please ask personal (non-commissioned) recommendations? My hair is all natural, slightly oily, more on the thick side, not colour/heat damaged but just lifeless and slightly thinning.

Aussie shampoos and conditioners are great. I use the one for coloured hair. The volumising ones are great too.

pollymere · 02/01/2024 19:12

Body shop ginger with occasional banana mask or shampoo. Original source Teatree one is good too.

Poudretteite · 02/01/2024 19:14

I use Palmer's. Get it off Amazon. Moisturizing and cheap and nice smell and no parabens/phthalates/nasties.

1974devon · 02/01/2024 19:16

I've tried so many over the years but find the cheap and cheerful Alberto balsam range really good. The tea tree one works well with my naturally curly hair.. but all work well. I started getting the tea tree one and conditioner when their were issues with nits at son's school.

OldTinHat · 02/01/2024 19:16

Tresemme is perfectly fine. I use it on thick, curly, oily at roots, dry on end hair.

becks213 · 02/01/2024 19:17

The Body Shop Ginger Shampoo, your hair sounds exactly like mine, I've tried everything and this is the best by far!

Why does Claudia W and others bang on about H&S being so great then?!

Because she's paid to!

We buy these, too. Cheap as chips and effective, and leave my and my daughter's hair lovely and soft. Bought the Tea Tree one for her (same reason) and I use the Strawberry one, too. Recommended, with the caveat that we're all different, and what suits me may not suit others.

Packetofcrispsplease · 02/01/2024 19:22

For me , I like the OGX range , it’s sulphate free .
my hair is fine but I have a lot of it and it’s wavy .

Yea totally agree. Its taken me many years to realise more expensive shampoo and conditioner didn't suit me but agree.the AB stuff may not suit all.
I switch between the different ones they do but always keep tea tree shampoo and conditioner in :)

Kpo58 · 02/01/2024 19:23

Aussie shampoo was crap on my hair. Wasn't worth the hype.

Rushie123 · 02/01/2024 19:24

She gets paid to!

I’m devastated that my “scalp benefits” was reformulated to scalp solutions

How do you think I feel, they took my sap moss away for over 10 years! (Thank god they brought it back)

Sheerdetermination · 02/01/2024 20:10

If your hair is thinning it could be you need to improve your diet - could be you’re low on iron or Vitamin D, for example.

Skinandbones · 02/01/2024 20:11

Did disney a few years back and decided to buy my shampoo over there, ended up not being able to find any with polytar, so picked Aveeno rose and camomile, turned out to be bloody brilliant. It was over here then so ended up with 4 bottles in my luggage. I'm still using it, and in between one of the others kifar is so nice along with apple cider.

InSpainTheRain · 02/01/2024 20:17

I use Head and Shoulders or Aussie shampoo/conditioner. Seems fine, but I have to be honest and say I don't give it much thought.

Yeetpetite · 02/01/2024 20:28

L’Oreal Elvive is great, my hairdresser said it’s one of the best mid range shampoos. Kerastase is lovely but expensive, I use it once a week max & seems to work well for my fine oily hair. Granier Ultimate blends works well on my daughter’s hair which is a bit thicker than mine and oily. Good luck on your shampoo hunt!

Purplebunnie · 01/01/2024 17:18

I agree their hair products are very good but they don't as far as I am aware do the shampoo bars which I find extremely odd as they were so pro the environment with refilling bottles. I would swap if they would do the bars

@Shamrockk @Purplebunnie i love the Body Shop ginger shampoo as well, it's great for sensitive skin/scalp and they do now do it as a shampoo bar, which I love just as much as the traditional shampoo.

Buddyboy · 02/01/2024 20:44

Same. It’s the best my hair that sounds like yours!

Edda09 · 02/01/2024 20:51

If you have oily hair, shampoos (liquid or bars) containing charcoal are very good; good selection on amazon. Also, if using a contitioner, only condition bottom of hair to avoid roots getting too greasy.

celticprincess · 02/01/2024 20:59

Oily hair with dandruff - body shop ginger shampoo works well. Also has worked well with the tea tree oil shampoo from there too. Head and shoulders also worked but like a separate conditioner. This is what my DD has been using. Personally o always gravitate back to the bed head shampoo. I have coloured hair some the coloured hair one but I’ve tried the others and they’re lovely. Usually buy on home bargains. Huge bottles. Every now and then when I run out I have tried others. Can’t do treseme. It makes my hair static. Can’t do Alberto balsam either for same reason. I’m told Pantene coats your hair in plastic which makes it look and feel nice but not after a whole. Aussie has always been quite nice on my hair and smells lovely. My hair is also oily but coloured. Also thinner it once was. Wash every other day. Rarely blow dry fully, usually just my fringe and then to take the wetness out of the rest. Rarely use straighter these days either. Hair dresser always compliments how healthy my hair is.
