To celebrate an error code on my useless dishwasher

Twodogsonthecouch · 01/01/2024 08:57

Piece of shit expensive and not very old (maybe 6 years) dishwasher got an error code for the first time last night. The whole house celebrated.
AIBU to not even google the code..feck it out the door and get a new one?

What's the best dishwasher is the obvious next question.. DO NOT say Bosch 😡😡😡

So your six year old dishwasher broke down last night for the first time, how is that enough to be that angry. What is the error code it could be something very simple like a blocked filter.

bumtrumpet · 01/01/2024 08:59

But if an overaction. Maybe just check what the error code means?

Twodogsonthecouch · 01/01/2024 09:07

I guess I didn't say "lighthearted"
I'm not angry about the error code, I'm celebrating that
I have been irritated by this useless dishwasher for years. Never washes properly. Have had the engineer out who told me that I wasn't cleaning the arms frequently enough. Since then I have had to clean the arms after EVERY use and it still doesn't clean well..always dried in fine grit on everything in the top layer.
I have persevered for years because I couldn't justify the expense and environmental impact of getting rid of it and getting a new one. This error code is giving me an excuse so I'm celebrating 🥳

I stayed in an airbnb which had a dishwasher that left fine grit over everything. What the hell is that?

I've heard good things about Miele…

NoMoreXmasTree · 01/01/2024 09:09

We did battle with a Bosch for a similar amount of time. Had it repaired three times. Bloody motor kept breaking. The engineer said Miele are the best. Expensive but worth it. So we bit the bullet when it broke again just three months after it was last fixed.

I like the Miele in the main. I wish it's shorter cycle was a bit shorter (Bosch did a 25 min cycle, Miekes

NoMoreXmasTree · 01/01/2024 09:12

Argh pressed send by accident.

Miler's shortest cycle is 45 mins. The layout isn't as good either. However it does have a function where the door automatically opens a bit after the wag so things air dry. So no more soggy plastics, lovely dry mugs and wooden spoons. Much better. We got a mid-range one at about £900. Luckily had some John Lewis vouchers I'd been given so hot about £100 off too.

I got what you meant! I had a useless washing machine and I was gutted when my DH proudly repaired some minor issue. When it eventually died and was replaced with a Miele the difference was so dramatic…cleaner clothes, shorter programmes where required etc.
My dishwasher is fisher and paykel which I like but DH is not a fan. If I hadn’t wanted to match an existing fridge freezer I’d have gone for Miele based on how great the washing machine I have now is.

NoMoreXmasTree · 01/01/2024 09:12

*wag = wash Blush

Zanatdy · 01/01/2024 09:13

How often are you meant to clean arms? I never do. Maybe I’m neglecting my dishwasher

PuttingDownRoots · 01/01/2024 09:15

Have you tried adding rinse aid? We find that adding it every now again gets rid if the grit issue

Sodndashitall · 01/01/2024 09:16

I'm on my second bosch and I've never cleaned the arms other than when something specific blocked them (bit of food). I do run a regular cleaning cycle and that keeps the dishwasher working well. Surprised at the engineer comment !
I have Miele washing machine and it's fab so maybe their dishwasher are too!

YnysMonCrone · 01/01/2024 09:19

My Bosch was shit.
When I divorced my exh and we were dividing stuff up I let him have it. He did fuck all around the house so didn't know it was shit. I hope it's still shit 🤣

Twodogsonthecouch · 01/01/2024 09:19

I am 57 years old and have lived in this house for nearly 30 years, always with a dishwasher, and this is the first one where I have cleaned the arms EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! It doesn't even always help but some washes are better than others so in my head meant I couldn't justify a new machine. This patronising git of an engineer made me feel like it was so obvious that I should be cleaning the fecking arms ever day that I never had him back again

Exactly my previous experience.

I use the dishwasher tablets that are 3 on one..maybe separate rinse aid would help..but I so badly want a new dishwasher now that I'm reluctant to try a solution that might remove my excuse to get one 😉🤣

Always see what the error code is , it’s for a reason. As for Bosch our first dishwasher was 15 yrs old before recycling by a firm that helps charities & the replacement was a Bosch.

LividStrike · 01/01/2024 09:26

You definitely need separate rinse aid.

But life’s too short, get a new one.

whyamiawakestill · 01/01/2024 09:27

Ohhh congratulations, I had a bloody useless washing machine that I willed to die, took years but I just never felt it was washing well enough.

I'd say NEF would be my go too, we have renovated and moved lots and those are always my favourite dishwashers.

SnowsFalling · 01/01/2024 09:27

The only times our (bosch) dishwasher left grit on stuff was when it was running out of rinse aid - even with the super fancy 5-1 you don't need anything else tablets, it definitely needed rinse aid.

Why not get a free trial to Which and see what they recommend?

tanstaafl · 01/01/2024 09:30

Is the error code

’add more grit’

?

GeneCity · 01/01/2024 09:31

I've never cleaned my dishwasher's arms. I think DH might have, but not very often at all.

It sounds like RinseAid might be the issue.

Definitely need rinse aid.

But if you hate & it & can afford it, get a new one.

Tilllly · 01/01/2024 09:31

@Twodogsonthecouch

I googled all the error codes for you

Definitely not worth repairing

Cheaper to replace

Fact 😉

Sodndashitall · 01/01/2024 09:31

Fwiw I always add separate salt and rinse aid and use the basic tablets. I find the results way better !
