Twodogsonthecouch · 01/01/2024 08:57

Piece of shit expensive and not very old (maybe 6 years) dishwasher got an error code for the first time last night. The whole house celebrated.
AIBU to not even google the code..feck it out the door and get a new one?

What's the best dishwasher is the obvious next question.. DO NOT say Bosch 😡😡😡

In my large holiday let (sleeps 12 and is usually close to capacity) I have a Blomberg. It must be used at least twice a day, but has kept going without complaint for 4 years. I clean its filter once a week and that’s it. It even has an effective 30 minute programme. I’ve been so impressed I bought one for home too. They’re sold by independent electrical shops.

MoreHairyThanScary · 01/01/2024 09:33

Fix the problem sell it on Facebook put the money towards a new one.

We have a Bosch it is the quietest machine and is brilliant, but I think other models vary massively! ( I looked a the which recommended when we bought years ago) .

@Twodogsonthecouch

I googled all the error codes for you

Definitely not worth repairing

Cheaper to replace

Fact 😉

Brilliant. You have cleared my Catholic conscience 🥳🥳😉😉🤣

You need separate rinse aid. The 3 in 1 tablets lie to you.

dementedpixie · 01/01/2024 09:34

My bosch is at least 12 years old. I use tablets and rinse aid and salt. Clean out the filter every so often. No grit issue

socialdilemmawhattodo · 01/01/2024 09:35

Sodndashitall · 01/01/2024 09:31

Fwiw I always add separate salt and rinse aid and use the basic tablets. I find the results way better !

So do I. My Bosch dishwasher is great. 2nd one in 26 years. Now my ghastly Miele washing machine - error code you say?

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 01/01/2024 09:35

You not taking care of it correctly op. Are you in a hard water area? Sounds like limescale to me and that you need to descale, keep your salt topped up and use rinse aid.

Why waste money on a new dishwasher if you don't need to?

Sharontheodopolodous · 01/01/2024 09:35

I'll take your gritty dishwasher and raise you our haunted one

It will suddenly just start working-even if it's switched off/door open and run a full cycle

But,turn it on and press the button as you want clean plates, and it cuts out mid wash-you have to start all over again

Ive cleaned it,salted it,Rinse aided it and even begged it but it still does what it likes

I think it's a beko (first dishwasher so got a cheap one just to see if we liked having it)

First sign of an error code and its going to dishwasher heaven

drivinmecrazy · 01/01/2024 09:36

Completely feel your pain.
Our dishwasher broke when I was visiting my DM overseas.
I begged DH not to get a new one til I was home.
He didn't listen. He went for the only one that was in stock so could pick it up immediately. Couldn't wait two days.
It's the biggest pile of shite ever invented.
It's awful.
I was joyful a couple of weeks ago when I thought it was buggered. Turns out I'd accidentally set it to delayed start.
Was dancing around the kitchen waiting to tell him 'I told you so'.
I felt bereft when he pressed a button and sorted it.
We're a family of 'if it ain't broke don't replace it' so I have to think of other ways to sabotage it.
Hate the bloody thing!!

Iwishicouldflyhigh · 01/01/2024 09:37

Twodogsonthecouch · 01/01/2024 09:23

I use the dishwasher tablets that are 3 on one..maybe separate rinse aid would help..but I so badly want a new dishwasher now that I'm reluctant to try a solution that might remove my excuse to get one 😉🤣

And salt!! We have the 3 in one but i also add salt occasionally - i'm religious about cleaning the filter each time and check the arms a few times. They need to be clear to whizz the water around. I find cleaning them very satisfying and have a number of different sized prodders to assist me.

Zippedydoodahday · 01/01/2024 09:37

We had a Miele and the bloody thing was awful. The engineer insisted that the problem was that we weren't washing the dishes thoroughly enough before putting them in there. Which isn't an issue I've had with any other dishwasher. Plus it kept warping plastic chopping boards and tuppaware. Miele wouldn't accept that there was a problem.

Thankfully John Lewis eventually agreed to take it back even though Miele wouldn't acknowledge there was a problem.

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 01/01/2024 09:38

I had a washing machine like this. Died within 2 years, I am so grateful now I have a new one as it was an awful machine.

Zippedydoodahday · 01/01/2024 09:39

Oh and you definitely still need to use salt and rinse aid even with the 3 in 1 tablets. Particularly if you live in a hard water area. They just don't clean properly otherwise.

lemmein · 01/01/2024 09:40

I understand op - I can't wait till my shit washing machine dies!

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 01/01/2024 09:42

This thread is just highlighting why having a dishwasher is far more hassle than just handwashing 😂

FFS if I need to wash them thoroughly before they go in I'll keep my €1000 in my arse pocket and just hand-wash 😮😉

This thread is giving me major arm washing guilt. I didnt realise you had to clean their arms!

Twodogsonthecouch · 01/01/2024 09:46

I beginning to think that in order to keep everyone on the thread happy I need to have a party to celebrate the apparent demise of my piece of shit dishwasher but promise to use salt, rinse aid and descaler on my new one 🤔

Have to disagree... after a life of washing up by hand, we moved into a house with a dishwasher several years ago, and it's been amazing. I still love the thing every time I put it on and go sit down 😍 if it broke I would get it fixed immediately. I hope never to have to wash up by hand again.

I don't know what kind it is as built in behind units, but I assume it's pretty cheapo as everything here is!

Like a pp, I use rinse aid, salt and cheap basic tablets from Lidl or Home Bargains, get clean, dry dishes every time. I'd never had one before, but have worked in a lot of kitchens with industrial dishwashers, and they were always needing to be topped up on various things.

youveturnedupwelldone · 01/01/2024 09:53

I know the feeling you have - I hated, hated, hated my last washing machine, will never touch a Samsung again! I celebrated the day it finally broke down. Yes I could have fixed it, but I hated it to the point it made laundry a chore, and actually laundry is my favourite housework.

I also got a new vacuum for Christmas - I'm not getting rid of the old one as it's a "proper" one (Miele!) but it's heavy and had become a chore to get out frequently, so I hardly hoovered and the dust was building up (not good for dust allergies). So I got a lighter stick vacuum and ooooh the difference, so easy to throw it round as often as needed. Doesn't completely replace the bigger one but makes life much easier.

Once you've broken up with an appliance that's it. Get a new dishwasher!

Mine is Bosch and I love it so am no help there - just wanted to give you some solidarity in the face of all the "just repair it!" replies 😃

I stayed in an airbnb which had a dishwasher that left fine grit over everything. What the hell is that?

I've heard good things about Miele…

I think that is to do with not having enough salt or dishwasher liquid.

AlisonDonut · 01/01/2024 09:54

Does it have a little space next to where you are supposed to put the tablet? Usually has slots in it so that the water can get to it.

As if it does, then you need a pre wash as it does most of the work during that phase and if there is no pre wash in there, it won't work properly.

We've got a Blomberg too, as recommended by an engineer who tried to fix our last dishwasher. I like it. Was surprisingly cheap, has a 30min cycle and one of those cutlery racks that sits at the top which is handy.
