To ask them to be quiet even though it's NYE

Xmasdread22 · 01/01/2024 00:07

Next door are making so much noise that I can hear them through 3 rooms. Live in a flat. I know it's new years but AIBU to knock on and ask them to be quiet please? With all the fireworks making so much noise too, I just want to go to sleep.

OP posts:

But it’s not is it. It’s several times a year and then people spout COL.

Thankfully none here, OP you have my every sympathy! Fireworks should be banned.

Wait, a few nights out a year means noone can complain about cost of living?

What does COL have to do with it? Are people not allowed to have fun occasionally because of the crisis?

Glad to hear people South of the Border have joined the fun. 👍

Lived in England for thirty years before my 20 years in Scotland - it’s always been a big thing in England. Remember going to parties as a small child where all the kids were dumped in a room in sleeping bags so they could sleep while the adults partied. Can’t remember a single NYE where I wasn’t at a party.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 01/01/2024 06:49

Hope they have quieten down, best to ignore if a once off an just put up with it.

I write a letter to the council every new year demanding that Xmas lights are gone my 26th dec land threatening legal action if there is noise after 8 when my babies got to bed. I think the letters have been threatening enough that all lights were down, and all curtains closed by 8 each year.
I cannot be doing with starting the year with my twins out of sleep routine.

Is this a joke?

Ladyj84 · 01/01/2024 07:09

We had this but chose to keep quiet as our neighbour is great the rest of the year lol so a one off is cool

You realise whoever opens these letters laughs then shreds them yep?

Honestly you moaners about NYE, being able to afford to have fun with the COL and Christmas lights being too bright sound like the perfect neighbours! Mine tried to tell us to be quiet at 9pm one year. The neighbour was told to fuck off. I'd say the same to you too. Fuck off and get a life. Also my dogs get frightened during fireworks so I sit with them, I don't start moaning about humans having fun. What losers you are. You're not normal..Let's ban NYE and bonfire night while we're at it. And birthday parties. And weddings. Let's ban fun. Yay.

LakieLady · 01/01/2024 07:54

I live in a town where bonfire night is a massive thing and there are a fair few people who've done the training that allows them to buy the highest category of fireworks.

Last night, I didn't hear a single one, for the first time in over 30 years of living here. I don't think anyone had a party either.

Cmonluv · 01/01/2024 01:39

The deadline 🙄 there's something quite wrong with you

This.

I’m glad you didn’t knock on my door and tell us to be quiet last night 😂

I’m also glad for you that you didn’t knock on theirs, because I have a feeling you’d be back here feeling rather aggrieved by their response.

We live in a detached house and even that didn’t stop all neighbour/estate noise last night… living in any sort of adjoining property comes with neighbour noise, be glad you obviously don’t hear them day to day (although you sound like the type that would be here complaining about that too!)

Indi1906 · 01/01/2024 08:02

@flawlessandfearless have you tried Taiko Drumming? There’s videos on YouTube specifically for dogs :) hope your dog is ok today!

What a pointless 😒 mumsnet thread

What a killjoy or should i say damp squib of a person you are @Xmasdread22

What do you expect on New years 🤔 day then?

I'll check it out, thank you. She slept with us all night which is unusual but all good today. 😊

Grimchmas · 01/01/2024 10:04

Having a good laugh here that the OP feels they have the authority to set a deadline that is precise to 3/4 hr after midnight, that she hasn't communicated to the neighbours but expects them to adhere to. I'd also pay good money to see her grumpily walking around the neighbourhood trying to find the people who were letting off fireworks to tell them off for not adhering to the deadline 😁

Christmaslights21 · 01/01/2024 10:33

Deadline!! Haaaaaaa 😂 I’d laugh in your face if you knocked and demanded silence on New Year’s Eve.
its ONE NIGHT of the year. Get a grip.

StinkyWizzleteets · 01/01/2024 10:51

I have to admit I’m loving the ridiculous competition between England and Scotland on this thread as to who celebrates Hogmanay more 😂😂😂😂

You people will argue about anything.

Hospitalshmospital · 01/01/2024 00:19

You're nae in Scotland then!!

Quiet where we are in Scotland.

OakTree16 · 01/01/2024 11:19

Laughing at “the deadline”😂

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 01/01/2024 11:23

Scirocco · 01/01/2024 01:10

New Year (also known as Hogmanay) is a Very Big Deal in Scotland.

And don’t we bloody know it @Scirocco , our neighbours celebrate it, started at 9 yesterday morning and still going 🤬😡

EerieSilence · 01/01/2024 11:25

It was WW3 outside last night and we live in the sticks and it's very quiet here. I didn't mind, it's NYE, people have party and celebrate. Just went to sleep at 11 (as usual) with DDog cuddled up to me underneath the blanket (she doesn't give a damn about the fireworks, fortunately) and that was it. Wouldn't dream about knocking on my neighbours' door and asking for silence. It's a once in a year thing.

LordSnot · 01/01/2024 12:01

Cmonluv · 01/01/2024 05:25

It's in darkness because everyone's out.

They were asleep, like most people. Why are you so invested in making it seem like Hogmanay is a bigger deal than it is?

JudyGeller · 01/01/2024 12:22

@Redglitter I’m also in Renfrewshire and I totally agree with you, 1 house in the street let off fireworks and the others in darkness not because they were out but because most folk are in their beds!! I also remember having the big get together with family and friends and my family loved it like your dad but that doesn’t happen anymore and hasn’t for quite some time. Can’t beat a butchers steak pie for NYD dinner though 😉

Hospitalshmospital · 01/01/2024 14:05

Hogmanay is & always has been a big deal in Scotland. My point was the party would only just be starting at midnight so setting 'deadlines' & asking neighbours to be quiet would be very very unreasonable.

LordSnot · 01/01/2024 18:05

Hogmanay is as big a deal in Scotland as NYE is in England.
