To ask them to be quiet even though it's NYE

Next door are making so much noise that I can hear them through 3 rooms. Live in a flat. I know it's new years but AIBU to knock on and ask them to be quiet please? With all the fireworks making so much noise too, I just want to go to sleep.

What are the Scottish comments about?

Glad my dog has zero reaction to fireworks! She sleeps right through! My parents spend all night telling their dog to shut up as he gets increasingly stressed out by the noise, so I refuse to go round there now as them doing that is more annoying than their dog 😂

As for fireworks I really don't understand why more than 15 minutes is necessary

Gosh, @BananaSplitsss can't win then can she? She isn't responsible for the fireworks and would surely stop them if she had the chance. So, really, if both options are equally upsetting to the neighbours, then go for the one that causes the dog the least distress?

Disclaimer: I have a dog who is terrified of fireworks but has, thankfully, been a lot happier tonight. Fuck knows why. Counting my lucky stars.

My neighbours sometimes like to get home between 1am and 3 am and then start making noise. As in you can hear much of their conversations. People who say ‘but it’s NY’ probably never have to listen to more than muffled sounds from their neighbours.

@Howbizzare22 as I put in an earlier post, the deadline for them to be quiet was quarter to one and they were so I didn't have to.

I think everyone expects a bit of partying and noise on NYE but if you live close to other people you still need to show some curtesy and common sense - e.g. finish up by 12.30 or just after and not go on all night so that people can’t get any sleep. There are people who need to work the next day or have other responsibilities and commitments.

New Year (also known as Hogmanay) is a Very Big Deal in Scotland.

My normally quiet neighbours have recently invested in a karaoke machine. Still going here! Keeping my kids up with their bad singing.

Foam earplugs and sleep phone playing white noise/rain/waves etc. I'm highest sleeper and this works wonders

My mostly lovely neighbours didn’t switch the loud music off until 1.30am. I’d see it as petty to complain about New Years music and noise.

whe did people become so miserable seriously. I have spent since 5 making a buffet, eaten then played board games with the kids. I certainly wouldn’t consider tonight of all nights to knock on my neighbours door until at least 2.30!!

You can't ask people to be quiet on NYE, no. You'll look ridiculous. Earplugs or put up with it.,My neighbours are having a massive knees-up tonight. I have earplugs in, I hate the feel of them but it's one night.

We spent tonight in watching TV and I’m heavily pregnant but I would never go round to the one pub next to us or one opposite and tell them they have a “deadline”. One of them is still going now, sounds like a right rave, wish I could go dance with them! 🕺💃
