Cooked and hosted Christmas dinner for in-laws as well as my family including my 2 small children (also currently 12 weeks pregnant).

In-laws asked what they could "bring" earlier in Dec, I said nothing really as I had it ordered from Ocado.

By this MIL assumed it was all prepared as her response was "how lovely, Christmas in a box", throughout the day she continued to question what I had made and what had come "done".

We agreed they would bring "drinks"...

Considering there were 7 adults and 2 children, any guesses what they turned up with...?!

Fruit shoots and a carton of oat milk.

Coastalcreeksider · 31/12/2023 12:32

Litre bottle White Lightning?

Ponoka7 · 31/12/2023 12:33

Also why is your family and DH leaving you to do all the cooking?

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 31/12/2023 12:34

Half a bottle of milk, use by the day before.

Ignore the nitpicking.

You agreed they'd bring drinks. I reckon a bottle of wine...

My DM can be like this, always assumes people don't prepare stuff from scratch. It's some sort of weird snobbery. My Mil looks down on me because I do cook from scratch, thinks it's weird...people are weird...

Oh I missed the drinks bit! Apologies op. I'm going with 1 bottle of something then Grin

ApolloandDaphne · 31/12/2023 12:36

A bottle of squash, four beers and a bottle of Prosecco?

Crumpleton · 31/12/2023 12:37

Seven tea bags and half a bottle of orange squash.

QuerulousMegapode · 31/12/2023 12:39

A sodastream. Everything tastes better with bubbles!

DeeLusional · 31/12/2023 12:39

Unwatching, this is an unreasonable length of time to keep folk hanging.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 31/12/2023 12:40

A bottle of Buckfast and some Sourz?

TommyNever · 31/12/2023 12:40

I bottle of Cheeky Fucker Chianti and a couple cans of Miser Tizer.

Didn’t you say you told them everything had been bought? I’d bring a token something if I was told that so as not to offend the hosts. Maybe next time when they ask what to bring be more specific so they have a remit to work with. Poor them being lumbered with such an insufferable DIL who insists on being the pregnant Christmas cook martyr.

OP said We agreed they would bring "drinks"

I’m guessing a bottle of white wine. Not even a packet of straws to share it!

ANightmareBeforeChristmas · 31/12/2023 12:43

Two cans of lager.

Fitrix29 · 31/12/2023 12:43

No idea, but you probably want to actually tell us. It’s a pointless post otherwise 🙄

StoorieHoose · 31/12/2023 12:44

Haydenn · 31/12/2023 12:12

2 bottles of Buckie?

😄

(With a wee bottle of Thunderbird for the ladies)

Raincloudsonasunnyday · 31/12/2023 12:45

Sparkling water, large bottle of Evian, apple juice for the children and a single bottle of red. Maybe a small bottle of Baileys as your Xmas gift.

GalileoHumpkins · 31/12/2023 12:45

A bottle of White Lightning that they'd had for years and a brown bag?

porkchopsandwiches · 31/12/2023 12:47

A bottle of Blue Nun

CatamaranViper · 31/12/2023 12:48

An open bottle of cava

ShinyPikachu · 31/12/2023 12:48

A half drunk bottle of Baileys that went out of date two years ago, a dusty bottle of lime cordial and a bottle of flat cheap lemonade?

dylanthedragon · 31/12/2023 12:50

Four cans of Stella and a bottle of whatever wine you don't like.

Discomboobulated · 31/12/2023 12:50

They sound classy. I think 2 bottles of Shloer??

Ohlookwhoitis · 31/12/2023 12:50

Citrusandginger · 31/12/2023 12:04

I don't think you can say nothing I've ordered everything from Ocado and expect them to turn up with anything though?

Why not say something like, I've ordered the dinner, but perhaps you could bring some nibbles & extra drinks?

We agreed they would bring "drinks"...

saturnspinkhoop · 31/12/2023 12:50

A single Capri sun without the straw.

TeenLifeMum · 31/12/2023 12:51

we ask in-laws to bring crackers and mince pies because it’s what I trust them with. If they mess it up it doesn’t matter. I’m not being nasty as I do love in laws but they get stressed about bizarre things so we mitigate against it.
