Also, the conservative government embarrasses the left when it comes to diversity within it's leadership.

I'm politically homeless like others have said. Former Green voter, not sure where to go.

Watervolt · 31/12/2023 02:16

Could you explain why TWAW?

I'm not going to get into it because people who don't believe that will not engage in good faith.

Luddite26 · 31/12/2023 12:14

3 women who were all bullied out by the men in suits (1 took rather longer to go granted.).

Luddite26 · 31/12/2023 12:16

The Conservative Party have fought a civil war over Europe right under our noses tearing themselves apart and the country. Then point their fingers at the left scaremongering.

moderationincludingmoderation · 31/12/2023 12:16

I know what you mean OP, especially prevalent in an age of social media where your 'politics' merges with fashion & trends, bandwagons & virtue signalling.

That said, I also agree with other posters... it's not black and white.. life is full of nuance.

And hypocrisy..!

Compared to 0 women thrown out by Labour. Oh wait, that’s because they have had a grand total of 0 female leaders. Then again, not surprising looking at the clownish labour front bench. Only marginally worse than the current Tory front bench.

TheKeatingFive · 31/12/2023 12:17

Very interesting to see how much faith based language is in this very short post.

TW are not women and you know that as well as anyone. Yet you feel compelled to repeat nonsense that you cannot even begin to evidence. How did get yourself into that position I wonder?

Barbadossunset · 31/12/2023 12:18

But I would definitely put myself in the category of someone who holds dissonant views. I'm very politically liberal, but we're very financially secure and securely housed, but on the other hand, I left a very high paying job in the legal sector and now work for a non-profit and donate my salary back. We use private medical care but on the other hand, had ourselves taken off of non-dom status before we needed to (unlike Rishi Sunak's wife) because we believe in funding society through paying tax. Send our kids to private school but will vote labour regardless of the VAT issue. We do fly back to the US several times a year to see family but drive and electric car and try not to take any other air travel holidays. I do try to avoid palm oil due to the habitat destruction but we do have a Christmas tree (I've done some research and am not convinced it's worse than an artificial tree), etc. etc.

Is this satire?

Alcyoneus · 31/12/2023 12:19

AwfullyWeeBillyBigchin · 31/12/2023 11:05

I shouldn't have to explain because, if you'd done any research, even the flimsiest of internet searches, you would know you were wrong. But, here you go 👍
https://www.science.org/content/article/knowing-when-change-sex

Something like 5% of all animal species can change sex.

And the problem is, per se, reading those publications, it's only reading those publications 😉

Quit embarrassing yourself. You don’t have to talk tripe just because you made a foolish assertion and now have to tie yourself in knots to stand by it.

AwfullyWeeBillyBigchin · 31/12/2023 12:20

Don't reply because you don't want to hear information that might challenge your deep seated misbeliefs, more like 🤣

My reply was to the statement that "biological sex is immutable in nature", which is clearly false.

If you believe that biological sex in humans is binary, then you'd also be mistaken. What determines biological sex? Chromosomes? Wait until you hear that there are more combinations than just XX and XY. Is it reproductive organs? Wait until you hear about intersex.

You want it to be limited to binary options, but the science says otherwise. But don't tie yourself in knots about it 😉

Sadly, probably not. This is a typical leftie. And they know it.

Its true, but enabled by the left is is how Brexit was achieved.

And likes others, as a life long Labour voter, I am now politically homeless

barbielee · 31/12/2023 12:22

My point is that there's always been a tendency that the Left has to adhere to a much stricter level of personal political "cleanliness" than the Right does. "Left wing" people are excoriated for, for example, sending their children to private school or drinking champagne or going on holiday in Tuscany (and other such tropes).

Probably because the left are far more puritanical, vocal and vicious about pushing their moral credentials and trying to enforce groupthink on everyone else so it's no surprise people expect them to practice what they preach and deride them when they don't.

I have seen this numerous times from left wing friends ("If you don't think like us about x or y you are a far-right fascist").

I wouldn’t describe myself as left wing but to comment on a few:

“Feminist but support women hating philosophies and cultures.” Absolutely not, I support women 100% (and would not support any changing of terminology to “CIS women”/“womb havers” or whatever bollocks someone has come up with to pacify a tiny minority of non-females).

”LGBT friendly except for the L part”. Not sure about this, if anything it’s the T who discriminate against the L (I have nothing against lesbians).

“Want to make minorities safe except the Jewish community”. Absolutely not. I am horrified and disgusted by the way Jewish people have been treated, both in Israel and places like London and I would never condone any anti-semitism. This doesn’t mean I somehow approve of innocent people being killed in Gaza (I very much do not) but think everyone in Hamas who participated should be treated like the murderous and rapist terrorists they are.

“Believe in the NHS but go private where needed.”. I have private health insurance and will use it wherever possible. The NHS still needs to exist to ensure that people who can’t afford treatment can still have it (I can be one less on the waiting list and take less taxpayer funding by going private). Ditto using private schools but still believing education should be available to all, hence public schools existing.

Germany is very honest and open about WW2 and you can take tours of all the historical sites including the concentration camps.

Palm oil kills the rainforest habitats (love a goof Flake though) whereas Christmas trees are a crop grown in non-protected areas.

I get rid of any body hair which I consider disgusting and unfeminine. I also wear dresses and make up. I like to look good and feminine which doesn’t in my mind equate to kneeling to the patriarchy.

I also think those 5% of not-human beings that change sex probably just randomly do it and don't take puberty blockers or have multiple operations. I may be wrong. Nature is an amazing thing and can still surprise.

AwfullyWeeBillyBigchin · 31/12/2023 12:24

The link was there. The statement made was that "biological sex is immutable in nature", which is clearly false.

ZebraDanios · 31/12/2023 12:24

It almost seems like people feel like it’s worse to try to do something and fail than not to try to do it at all…?

I remember reading someone saying once that they liked Boris Johnson more for being a liar because “it just means he’s human”. People seem to forgive him almost anything - and a lot of that seems to be because we all know what he’s like (“oh, that’s just Boris”) and he’s never claimed to be any better than he is. He’s clearly a bit racist (“letterboxes”) and a bit homophobic (“bum boys”) and a bit misogynistic (“pat them
on the bottom”)…but he’s never made a big deal
of not being any of those things, so no-one particularly minds (and it’s a very similar situation with Trump).

By contrast if anyone who claims to be more enlightened says anything that could be taken to be even slightly off-colour - even if it’s not entirely obvious or it was 20 years ago or it’s been taken totally out of context - it’s seen as being far worse. And I think that’s similar to someone who “claims” to be vegan but (shock horror) gives their cat meat - they’re still consuming far less meat than a non-vegan, but people get terribly upset about the apparent hypocrisy of it.

I’m not entirely sure where I’m going with this but it’s interesting to think about…

TheKeatingFive · 31/12/2023 12:25

You want it to be limited to binary options, but the science says otherwise

Again, utter nonsense and I'm sure you know that.

Sex is determined by which pathway your body has developed - to produce small or large gametes

It is absolutely no use arguing with these people. Mumsnet is the closest place on the mainstream internet to a safe space for them (sadly) and they will bully and scream. Don't waste your energy. Most reasonable people know that you're correct.

AwfullyWeeBillyBigchin · 31/12/2023 12:25

I'm not the one denying reality, but here we are 🤣

Brefugee · 31/12/2023 12:26

I think, OP, if i've understood you correctly, you think that previously women and minorities have been better served by left-wing (or centre left) parties such as the traditional labour party, than by traditional right-wing (or centre right) parties such as the Conservatives (of yore)?

In which case, yes, (centre) left-leaning minorities - especially women - are now politically homeless.

But. Factional and party politics have always meant that compromise on some issues has been necessary. Previously in a Labour party supported by big unions it has meant compromising on the union's attitude towards women - which was often to see them as providing cheaper replacement workers and therefore not welcome in the workplace. And so on.

I agree that some animals can genuinely change sex eg rare types of fish and snails IIRC. Just not mammals such as people.

AwfullyWeeBillyBigchin · 31/12/2023 12:26

The statement made was "biological sex is immutable in nature", which is incorrect 👍
