Being anti-Israel is a badge of honour with some people. I did a massive facebook and instagram cull. I won't even support people who say Free Palestine, even though I do feel for the people of Gaza.

What a lot of people might not know is that a year before Adolf Hitler joined the Nazi party there was something of a Holocaust happening in what is now Ukraine. Between 1918 and 1922 100,00 Jewish people were tortured, raped and murdered. Jews were blamed for the turmoil of the Russian Revolution and the ‘progroms’ encouraged them to be exterminated. In the run up to the 30’s, many, many people - including non-Jews - spoke up and warned the world that something big was coming. It was even predicted in the mid-20’s - accurately - that a larger scale version of these progroms would result in six million Jewish deaths. Those people were ignored and laughed at, and many denied it even happened.

The reason I mention the progroms on this thread, and why I believe it is relevant now, is because history repeats itself…perhaps not in the exact identical circumstances of large-scale warfare, but the way the abuse of a whole race of people is being ignored, justified and even supported, and that anyone speaking is told to STFU or told it isn’t even happening. It is a very, very scary time to be Jewish and I swear if I get told once more that our fear is our own fault because Jewish people may or may not have certain political persuasions, I will explode.

Personally I don’t find Owen Jones’s denial of what’s happening to Jewish women in Israel very kind. Or the erosion of women’s rights through the medium of gaslighting and science denying. But that’s just me.

Yep, I’m left wing and follow through I believe in significant life choices, particularly in way my partner and I chose to have a family for example. I will always without fail rescue animals rather than buy, have never bought a disposable Xmas tree, use the same one from the garden ever year. Have worked in community venture in various fields to make things better etc. I’m left leaning but have been sneered at by so called socialists for being ‘centre left’, whom I then find out have several rental properties, buy puppies, have their own business etc. whilst each to their own the hypocrisy sometimes is staggering. You’re hardly Che Guevara if you’re making thousands from rental income for example! And it’s easy to be left if you’re well off as you’ll never have to generally struggle to get by. Lots of posturing and very little action in terms of making genuine change.
