Organisations such as the College of Policing, the NHS, universities have all swung behind this misogyny and homophobia and are not listening when told to stop.

I imagine they are all being given substantial donations by whichever billionaires support Stonewall. I have no proof of this but I can’t understand otherwise how Stonewall have wielded such power.

It’s not those institutions that have received substantial donations, those have gone into Tory party coffers.

Has Stonewall donated to the Tory Party?

Has Stonewall donated to the Tory Party?

The former head of it did. Millions.

@TempestTost what do people in Canada do then, if there are no state-funded dentists but also no private provision?

Barbadossunset · 31/12/2023 18:38

I was mainly referring to the discussion and views above on this thread being slightly contradictory in that many posters state they are left wing but have no problem with private provision. I wonder why they consider themselves socialists then?

walkingwashingmachine - I think so long as you say you vote Labour and/or hate Tories you can get away with any hypocrisy. Mummyford’s post in which she says she uses private healthcare, private education and was a nondom but it’s ok because she’s a socialist has provoked little or no criticism from Labour supporters on this thread. (However maybe they realised it was satire so didn’t bother taking her up on her hypocrisy).

Barbadossunset · 31/12/2023 18:40

Blossomtoes I didn’t know that - how shocking. Have Stonewall also made substantial donations to the Labour Party?

There are a few very pro Labour posters who talk about using private school or other

Maybe they are paid by the state for work or other so it’s a more personal benefit. I don’t really get the hypocrisy

BIossomtoes · 31/12/2023 18:45

Maybe very few Labour voters send their kids to private schools?

I don’t understand this sentence.

My prediction is that the Labour manifesto will be paper-thin and very light on detail so as not to scare anyone. Ask yourself: what are they hiding?

My prediction is that it will make the Tories’ manifesto look like the Beano. This very serious crop of Labour MPs is very determined to get into power.

Agree.

The Tory's don't even know what they stand for. Some may or not like this more centric version of Labour but I feel I know what they stand for and that matters to me.

Didn’t you? I thought it was a waste of money

No, I didn’t, mine was entirely state educated. My (Tory) bloke sent one of his, he regrets it.

The membership will never elect Badenoch in a million years.

I think that's evidenced by the fact that Rishi lost out to Liz Truss in the last membership election.

He was clearly a stronger candidate who after all was Chancellor. Thought there might have been some racist bias in the membership against voting for him.

Would love to be proved wrong though and for KB to get in.

Look, can you please take this pointless discussion about sex and gender somewhere else @AwfullyWeeBillyBigchin. There’s a reason MN has created a section for it.

Because it is the only thing that the right wing have as an argument against a labour govt. Yet they forget which party has been in power for the last 13 years when all this trans nonsense started.

It's all smoke and mirrors. Most women will not make a decision of such magnitude as who should be running our country based on a piece of ideology. And if they do, then they deserve the rotten Tories back again.

DewHopper · 31/12/2023 19:26

BIossomtoes · 31/12/2023 17:58

Not with pale, stale males, she isn’t. And they’re the ones who choose.

She is very popular with grassroots Tories, I assure you. And I am neither pale, stale nor male.

CurlewKate · 31/12/2023 19:31

My prediction is that Farage will be the next but one Tory leader. I must put some money on it.

See I don't think that the Tories have a racism/woman issue - the front bench is pretty diverse, the PM is an Asian man and they have had also had two female PMs (not counting Liz Truss that is!).

Labour have an endless parade of middle aged, white males.

I think that KB has a good chance - hope so anyway!

Erm,do you know how the public sector is funded?

Taxes? But donations are also made.

Love how the Labour woksecolds like to tell women off for caring about their basic rights and not caving in to the demands of unpleasant men and organisations breaking the law. Fuck that.

bombastix · 31/12/2023 19:42

On Kemi B my impressively old Tory tweedy great uncle thought she was very good and pro her being the next leader. Declared her "sensible".

Despises Sunak however, and was disparaging of his parents origins, and declared his Indian connections "suspect".

He is as Tory as they come; but hates Sunak and thinks Farage a fool. Anecdata of course but he's one of those voting for the next leader of the opposition.

daliesque · 31/12/2023 19:42

Barbadossunset · 31/12/2023 19:38

Nope. No donations. Entirely from taxes.
The money raised during the pandemic that we were told was for the NHS was actually for charities.
I'd quite welcome a random billionaire donating to the NHS at this point. The govt just seem intent on raising any money we've got left that is supposed to be used for patient care to fill a deficit that they caused through nit funding us properly in the first place. But yay, apparently they know what a woman is 🙄
