I'm stunned and not in a good way. Watched for a bit but found it too offensive. Apparently when he's on stage and making these 'jokes,' he's in character, like an actor playing a role how? He's gervaise doing what he does. Saying what he says… the fact that he regards anyone who disagrees with him as fucking idiots is laughable. His humour isn't nuanced or sophisticated and I'm pretty certain that the live audience who laughed aloud his jokes about disabled children weren't there for the nuances either.

I didnt find any of it offensive but it felt like it was all from someone embroiled in X/twitter and for someone who doesn't use it at all a lot of it was a bit boring as a result. Real life people aren't involved with constant spats about the issues he thinks people are so he's lost touch a bit, or maybe I need to get on twitter but that's not happening.

I think his stand up gets less and less good with every attempt. I share most of his views and don’t find any of it offensive but some of it is just too obvious now. There’s good stuff interspersed among all the low hanging fruit so it baffles me.

and the overall craft of being a stand up seems to be abandoned more and more. There’s no attempt even and smooth transitions between topics.

all his comedy now is him flogging his own personal hobby horses that we have all heard from him a million times.

he hasn’t made a good TV show since Extras either. Derek and After Life are fucking atrocious.

it’s sad. I used to really admire him.

I liked his previous stand-up shows a lot, also on Netflix. I found Armagedon a bit weak in places and not up to his previous standard. I like his controversial jokes, I don't always agree with them. His jokes about migrants arriving on boats were very good imo.

I don't like stand up in general to be honest, whoever is doing it. Always comes across as a bit desperate.

Nope.
I started watching it last night.
It was so disappointing to see someone who I've admired so much in the past acting like such a prick.
Punching down is never funny.
As the mother to a trans child, I switched it off without finishing it.
He's lost me as a fan, not that I expect him to care.

And all those staring "You just don't get it" "That's the point of his 'character'" etc, you are just using that as an excuse to punch down too.
Do better.

God what a sanctimonious post. How about you “do better” @LadyGrinningSoul85 by comprehending that everyone does not think like you (thank goodness) and we are all entitled to our own opinions. Shocking concept I know, but if you try really hard you might be able to manage it.

Of course RG doesn’t give a shit what you think. Neither do I come to that, other than finding your pomposity insufferable.

I think the OP remarks about Gervaise being a white man is that he enjoys male privilege. Yeah he grew up poor but he's risen swiftly through the ranks and now he's allowed to say whatever he likes

So he worked hard and is now respected in his field?
Privileged bastard!

lollyforabrolly · 03/01/2024 21:26

Beefcurtains sure he worked hard, so do many, many others who don't make it. he's using his privilege to support animal charities which is fucking amazing but also scraping the barrel of humour to get attention because he's running out of fresh ideas. And before you come at me I loved Extras, The Office and Aftelife I haven't RTFT but there's so much hate on here

lollyforabrolly · 17/01/2024 23:54

RG is bringing offensive words into his show when he's laughing at people in plain site… he's actually bringing offensive words into common usage, which he probably thinks is ok if he's doing it in a standup show but seems likely it's being repeated all the time by assholes who follows him
