Ricky Gervaise Armageddon yay or nay?

I'm stunned and not in a good way. Watched for a bit but found it too offensive. Apparently when he's on stage and making these 'jokes,' he's in character, like an actor playing a role how? He's gervaise doing what he does. Saying what he says… the fact that he regards anyone who disagrees with him as fucking idiots is laughable. His humour isn't nuanced or sophisticated and I'm pretty certain that the live audience who laughed aloud his jokes about disabled children weren't there for the nuances either.

By all accounts, he's an intelligent person who gives a lot of money to good causes.

Hated how he laughed at his own jokes.
Hating the woman screeching with laughter when he brought up children's mortality rates🤨

I like him but I thought Armageddon was boring fell asleep halfway through, also what with the pedo jokes? On and on and on....."wanking" joke are cheap imo, give me jokes about biscuits or garlic bread😂.

I thought it was ok, a bit hit and miss. I love the office and he has never done anything else that matched up to that.

It was a great show. The joke about the racist homophobic quadriplegic had me laughing out loud.

Knowing the reactions of the permanently offended however (like on this thread) made it funnier still.

The real joke is the one he is having on his audience, who, like us paid a fortune to watch him live and he was on for about 50 mins after we waited 2 hours. That's the real joke.

That section was brilliant. It perfectly mocks the righteous anger of people who proclaim to be against bigotry while expressing hateful bigotry. Hatred is justified if someone, even an imaginary disabled child, has erred too much. There’s so much of that around.

Yes, I finally understand the episode of 'old Yellow' from friends.

I loved RJ in Afterlife (that dog x)

And Derrick- if you missed it, check it out. Very thought provoking about attitudes to old people- lovely and brought a tear to my eye.
Sort of turns this thread on his head.

I don't normally watch stand up - don't like the swearing.
I did catch this as DH was watching it.
I did laughed out loud and it was close to the bone.
(How many sexes are there? = 2)
Also I couldn't understand OP's remark about him being a white man. ...., what's that got to do with anything?

I like RG and get the point he is making - don't find it offensive but this time it wasn't funny and felt too try hard. He needs some new material.

This show was just abit dull and repeats the points he's already made before but in a less funny way. Disappointing

Please re read what I said.
Some people can laugh at their "situation / status" but equally, many cannot laugh and instead they cry and feel hurt.
Where are the values of empathy and respect?
If another person finds something offensive, we should understand and see from their perspective.
RG isn't clever at all.
He's creepy and weird.
And I'm sick of Eastenders too!
What a bloody ridiculous carry on.

I am not a great fan of his stand-up, but I love his other work.

Afterlife and Derrick were absolutely brilliant, poignant series that had me laughing and crying. And the characters he played in the Office and Extras were well written and well portrayed by him. He sees the stupidity, hypocrisy, and unfairness in every day life and crafts wonderful, thought provoking programmes.

I love RG and will watch anything with him in it or written by him....... Just not keen on his stand-up.

It was great. He didn’t make a joke about bald cancer kids🤨. He made a joke about he makes videos for Make-a-wish requests, but only if they request it. He said “I don’t just burst into the room and say ‘wake up baldy, here’s me twerking on TikTok.” It’s not a joke about bald cancer kids, it’s a joke about an alternative twat version of himself who might be the sort of person to say that, but he isn’t and he doesn’t.

He even says, in the show, that people will accuse him of actually meaning offensive words like “retarded” in his show, (even though he clearly states he doesn’t use it in real life) because he’s good at what he does and convincing. He basically predicted something like a thread like this would eventuate. You’re just proving his point.

Well that puts a slightly different light on the joke doesn't it. I've not seen the show (not for any particular reason) but I get the distinct impression that OP did not come here in good faith & got rather insulting & nasty pretty damn quick.
