Just that really. Felt like hell since Xmas Day, started with big headache that will not shift, now have shivers and slight cough. No blocked nose or sore throat but head is absolutely banging without painkillers. Covid neg but feels exactly like it...anyone else?

Virus

DustyLee123 · 28/12/2023 07:38

It’s just a virus.

Trepidfox · 28/12/2023 07:46

With the main symptom as headache? No blocked nose/sore throat, eating/drinking fine-ish (not particularly hungry though)

Is anyone else experienced these symptoms or have heard this going around?

It's proper ruined Xmas 😔

Is it preventing you from sleeping? How bad is the pain?

Is Tylenol or anything helping?

If it's not getting better and nothing is helping it, go to emerge.

festivepains · 28/12/2023 07:56

Would you describe it as the worst headache you've ever had?

Taciturn · 28/12/2023 07:58

Have you taken your temp? The headache is probably because you have a fever. There is a flu doing the rounds exactly the symptoms you describe.

Trepidfox · 28/12/2023 08:09

It's waking me up throughout the night where I need to take paracetamol. Have been taking every 4-6 hours depending on how bad it feels or how I can cope with it. Not the worst headache ever but because it's been 5 days now it's really getting me down. Shivers last night and feel warm this morning, ringing in my ears started today. Just want to wake up without head pain 😔

narniabusiness · 28/12/2023 08:10

Could it be sinusitis?

Trepidfox · 28/12/2023 08:10

Thanks @Taciturn I think it is some kind of flu thing but not having any other symptoms is weird to me!

I had 8 days of the above symptoms before testing positive this morning....

AudreyHD · 28/12/2023 08:12

We’ve had the exact same thing here. My son had it the last week of school and my husband caught it over Christmas.
i assume it’s Covid since it’s been a year since we last had it but haven’t bothered testing, do the tests cover new variants?

This. Keep testing.

Meredusoleil · 28/12/2023 08:14

I have the same, except mine is pushing a week now! Started last Thursday. But tbf, I also had a couple of days of fatigue and fever in the middle (Friday and Saturday). Still wake up with the headache and need pain killers though. Definitely one of the worst viruses I have ever had!

Didimum · 28/12/2023 08:14

Go get some co-codamol. Try painkillers alongside those headache strips. I wouldn’t bother trying to match your symptoms to others – everyone will have differing symptoms to a virus/flu/covid. Seek care if headache worsens further.

Zanatdy · 28/12/2023 08:16

My 19yr old son has had some virus since 23rd. Cough is terrible, keeping me awake half the night (and him too of course). Temp of 40 degrees after paracetamol on Christmas Day, plus cold, bad headache for 3 days. 2 covid negative so not bothering to test again, only tested 2nd time as my friend who is a nurse said not to take Iburpfoen if it’s covid (but his temp wasn’t coming down with paracetamol only so had to do something. Friend couldn’t come over for Christmas dinner as planned which was sad but he’s finally starting to feel a bit better now, less coughing and only low grade fever now. There’s a lot of winter viruses going around. He wouldn’t have tested at all for covid but a friend was due over - either way she didn’t want to catch what he had. DD and I haven’t caught it

Baxdream · 28/12/2023 08:28

I've been on and off poorly for 3 weeks. A heavy cold landed a few days ago and have been poorly throughout Christmas. Negative for COVID I think I'm just run down.
Get well soon

Trepidfox · 28/12/2023 08:28

Thanks all, feeling proper duff today was really hoping it would lift. I usually work throughout the xmas and new year period so its put a big dampner but glad I don't need to be stressed about work on top. I'll test again today just to see.

By the way, why is neurofen a no no? When I had covid previously it's the only thing that would lift the symptoms. I haven't taken any this time as I've also had insane reflux so didn't want to aggravate that on top!

My stomach is also rather messed up, but not sure if it's related to the headache. Although did start roughly around the same time 🤔

awakeallhours · 28/12/2023 08:37

I am 2 weeks + into this. Awful headache, like waking up with the worst hangover every morning that doesn't shift, blocked nose too. No sore throat or cough. Been taking paracetamol but no sign of improvement as yet

Trepidfox · 28/12/2023 08:58

@awakeallhours 😔 it's horrid, really feel for you x

OP posts:
Trepidfox · 28/12/2023 08:59

@Meredusoleil yeah the reflux has subsided now. I drank a half a teaspoon of baking soda which helped x

@Trepidfox thank you, and thank you for posting as having read my own post back it's obvious mine is probably sinusitis 🤦🏼‍♀️ Off to buy Sudafed. Hope you feel better really soon xx
