Just that really. Felt like hell since Xmas Day, started with big headache that will not shift, now have shivers and slight cough. No blocked nose or sore throat but head is absolutely banging without painkillers. Covid neg but feels exactly like it...anyone else?

I can't say what it is, although when I had covid in August it was characterised by a headache, slight cough and not wanting to get out of bed. It only lasted 5-6 days, though.

Trepidfox · 30/12/2023 14:10

So symptoms have now moved on to body feels like arms and legs made of lead. Chest feels tight, cough is giving a little bit of phlegm but nothing to write home about. I feel very light headed/dizzy and weak, can't sleep very well as chest tightness is distracting. Still testing negative

Have you checked the date on the Covid test? My sister tested negative, found the test to be out of date then bought new tests and got a blazing positive.

Babyroobs · 30/12/2023 14:20

I've just had covid and the main symptom was just an enduring headache over many days that would not shift. Very few other symptoms apart from a tickly cough and fatigue. Maybe it is just not showing up on testing ?

chuppachups12 · 30/12/2023 14:29

I had a constant headache for days and felt very ill and tested positive for the flu

RethinkingLife · 30/12/2023 14:38

It sounds like the latest version of COVID although you're testing negative.

Have you consulted 111? Did they have advice for you?

Trepidfox · 30/12/2023 16:35

Thanks everyone for your replies, tests in date and having had covid before it has the same characteristics. I'm trying not to freak out as I'm not getting 'worse' as such but my body feels absolutly bizarre - dizzy and completely weak. I took paracetamol at 1 which I think made a bit of difference but my arms and legs feel like lead and movement feels slow and cumbersome. Sitting up and moving around causing waves of nausea and heavy breathing. Husband is here keeping an eye and hoping just complete rest will be the cure. No temp, no sore throat/snot or anything other than weakness, ringing ears and eyes hurting when I try and look around (not light sensitivity)

Totally weird!

@RethinkingLife no 111 as yet, I feel a bit of a fraud as I can only describe symptoms as feeling totally weird! I have eaten and had fluids today and am able to read/type but if anything changes I will call. Maybe there is some odd hybrid going around and it's just not showing up on the lat flow

@Babyroobs yeah that sounds about right with the headache. Did you have any days when your limbs felt odd? Like heavy and clumsy?

Baxdream · 30/12/2023 16:42

I tested negative throughout- all tests in date
I started with a sore throat that was very infected . Had antibiotics and they did nothing.
Another gp appointment and they didn't know so gave me oral thrush meds too
Then sinusitis - that made my ears blocked and very dizzy. More antibiotics which finished Christmas day
By the afternoon of Christmas Day I was struck with a heavy cold.
Just getting over that now.
It's been over 3 weeks now and I am done with it. I do feel the best I have since November so I'm hoping this is it and I don't get a chest infection like I often do with a cold!

Your symptoms sound like my sinusitis , I hope you get better soon!

Calabou · 30/12/2023 16:43

DP has this, I think. Very bad headache, painkillers only help a tiny bit. Very tired, says his legs ache and has been up coughing a lot the past few nights. He's been sick as well and hasn't eaten for around 3 days now. Gets breathless quite easily and has to take a couple of minutes before standing up sometimes.
Myself and the kids haven't caught it luckily, no idea what it is though! We aren't doing covid tests, but assuming that or another virus.

Ladysodor · 30/12/2023 16:43

You’ve got flu, it’ll pass.

Trepidfox · 30/12/2023 16:47

@Baxdream that sounds awful you poor thing. Being unwell is rubbish but for such a long time must have been totally debilitating x

@Calabou that all sounds very familiar 😔 hoping he starts to feel better soon and that you all stay well x

Baxdream · 30/12/2023 16:50

It's just rubbish being ill isn't it. I'm normally not ill often - maybe once a year I get a bad cold that affects my asthma but nothing this long.

manoffthelead · 30/12/2023 16:52

Sounds like a life-threatening cold lol.

Amba1998 · 30/12/2023 16:57

One of the million other strains of virus of which Covid is only one?

flu?

LikeItOrLumpIts · 30/12/2023 17:03

One of the million other strains of virus of which Covid is only one?

Every virus must be covid…..

Trepidfox · 30/12/2023 17:11

I know I must sound like a twit but it's honestly the oddest 'illness' I've ever experienced. Just wanted to see if there was anyone else out there having the same symptoms. Thank you all for your replies!

ohsuzannah · 30/12/2023 17:20

Mine was type 2 diabetes.

Trepidfox · 30/12/2023 18:17

@ohsuzannah can I ask what you mean? As in you had symptoms like this and it was type 2?

I hope you feel better soon too, it sounds horrendous. He doesn't want to see a doctor or even call 111, but I've decided to try to call. I'll update if anything comes of it, but the automated message says wait time is in excess of 30 minutes so not sure how long I'll hold out!

Not so much heavy but legs were aching and painful for a couple of days.

How have you tested positive for flu? I didn't know there was a flu testing kit we could purchase?

Lemonademoney · 30/12/2023 19:05

We’ve all had this in our house and it’s miserable…. My youngest dc now have heavy colds too - no snot at all for weeks and now we are flying through the tissues so can’t decide if it’s the back end of whatever this is or a completely separate infection. My head really hurt for a good two weeks, horrible! I’m still really tired now
