Worst Christmas present

I feel ungrateful but also very disappointed. My husband is crap at gifting but this really takes the biscuit. I am a 53 year old woman and we have been together for 26 years. He bought me a periscope. Am I being unreasonable to be disappointed and ungrateful?😓

You could start an instagram or twitter account with daily updates called Random Views from my Periscope

Brilliant idea, love this!

ChellyT · 22/11/2024 04:12

I would regift or donate every useless present.

Book a restaurant, spa, movie, event that I've been wanting to go to and when finish thank him for a lovely day/night and watch him boogle. (Your choice if you take him out with you or not)

Bookworm512 · 22/11/2024 07:49

This year I have asked for 2 books and specifically told him, no periscope and no kitchen gadgets that never get used. He has previously got me a sushi making set, gin glasses and a cocktail set, all never been used. I'd rather have a book token.

Oh @Bookworm512 I remember your post last year & seeing it again this morning made me smile! What did you do with the periscope in the end?
I have everything crossed for better Christmas presents this year!

Fannyfiggs · 22/11/2024 07:57

You may think you're safe asking for a book, but...

Worst Christmas present
Bookworm512 · 22/11/2024 08:56

Fannyfiggs, that is hilarious. 🤣
I asked him to return it, he kept the periscope for himself.

A friend who is a keen gardener once got a load of farmyard manure for her birthday- She was delighted!

malificent7 · 22/11/2024 09:16

What does your dh use the periscope for?

Bookworm512 · 22/11/2024 09:19

Milificent7. I have never actually seen him use it. Just gathering dust...

All he heard was you say blah blah blah blah get me a periscope blah blah blah. You will have a collection in no time.

I’ve just signed for a parcel and the customs note says it’s a silver necklace! Could be in the running for a proper Emma Thompson moment…

Haha, me too I remember. It was very memorable. A periscope LOL. I hope you get what you ask for OP, because my husband doesn't get me what I ask.

I think you should send him what you want or even better buy it for yourself and pop it under the tree and put it from Santa. Tell him to do the same for himself!

BarryStyles · 30/11/2024 13:58

I said casually to DP the other day - oh I’ve got an idea for something for me for Xmas if you want? And he said It’s ok I’ve already got yours 😬. He usually buys for me on the 23rd or later and once gave me trainers in the wrong size because they’d run out of mine (who knew that could happen?) So I’m wondering what I’ve unknowingly shown an interest in recently, could be a periscope!

Goldduck · 30/11/2024 20:01

My mother in law I've gifted me and my husband an ice scraper (each!) for our cars. She is very well off and has bags of time...

You should buy the books you want ‘for him’ - as in, that’s his gift. When he opens them you can exclaim ‘omg I’ve been thinking to read these exact 2! What are the odds!’

Anuta77 · 01/12/2024 19:20

That's too funny! 😂

NinaGeiger · 25/12/2024 19:53

Just remembered about the periscope from last year and it made me laugh. Found this thread because I'd love to know what you got this year, @Bookworm512 ?

Mercedes45 · 25/12/2024 19:54

I'm curious too 😃

The first Christmas with my boyfriend he bought me a vax machine....
We've been married over 30 years now & his present buying skills have improved massively!

I’d have been well chuffed with that! 🙈
