Something sinister going on about Cocaine in the UK

Something sinister is going on.

We all know people on Cocaine, it's very very popular, every time i go in the toilets in my local bars on the weekend there's lads in there doing and dealing it.

Recenly it was reported that the UK is the second most popular country for cocaine..

We are an Island country. (excluding NI).

How the hell is so much getting in our borders? There are sniffer dogs and checks at airports and sea ports. You can very well imagine some is getting in..

But enough to feed a population of 67million? nah

OP posts:
MissBuffyAnneSummers · 25/12/2023 04:34

Statistically I must know someone takes cocaine but no clue who.

But it's certainly not 'popular' and I've never seen anyone doing it in the toilets.

ChristmasSteps295 · 25/12/2023 04:49

Sorry you think there's a conspiracy to sneak in enough cocaine for every single person in the UK?

For what purpose?

Also, don't you think people would notice if everyone and their mums were getting a cheeky bag in with a wink and a nod from PC Plod?

HarlanPepper · 25/12/2023 05:00

It's absolutely rife where I live - I don't see it because I never go out, but I hear young people talking about how it feels like everyone is doing it in bars and clubs now - it's become tied up with drinking culture, the 'sesh', etc

Adding an emoji doesn’t help your argument. And the ONS is independent, not part of the government.

Edited

I'm one of the ONS's biggest fans. I strongly doubt, however, that many Class A drug users would tell a stranger with a (digital) clipboard about it. I'm surprised as many as 2% did.

HuntingoftheSnark · 25/12/2023 05:21

I'm 54, never taken it or been offered it. However I agree that it's rife. CA meetings around me are hugely attended - age group twenties to sixties.

WashItTomorrow · 24/12/2023 22:05

I live in London and work in the media - TV. I don’t know anyone who takes cocaine.

Hahahaha! Good one 🤣🤣🤣

Merry Christmas.

Fraaahnces · 25/12/2023 05:40

I think you need to consider that the population has expanded exponentially too. There are more people taking drugs, bringing them in and buying and manufacturing them because there are more people. The percentage of people involved has probably not changed.

Solymoly · 25/12/2023 05:51

Loads of people have took different drugs for years, it's no different now to when I was young in the 70s and 80s and before then.

HalloweenIsDone · 25/12/2023 06:03

I do think people are somewhat naive. I bet it's rife with the school mums. At our school there's a group of mums who do. You'd never think to look at them. They don't look like druggies like some of you have mentioned.

Solymoly · 25/12/2023 06:19

The school mums in my town are more likely to sniff those little NOS things than take cocaine

OldTinHat · 25/12/2023 06:21

I don't know anyone who uses it either.

How does it get in? Like this: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-67143046.amp

Mushroomsouptonight · 25/12/2023 06:22

nottaotter · 24/12/2023 21:22

Government figures say just over 3% of all adults have taken a class A drug in the last year, that seems low, but I have no idea about other countries.

I think sometimes if you are around a group of people who do something/talk a certain way etc it can skew your perception.

This.

GoldenFishes · 25/12/2023 06:22

I genuinely think some people don't realise that people are different.
I will say again I know I don't know anyone who does it. Small group of friends and colleagues, don't go out much etc.
I will say again that doesn't mean I think nobody does. Nor does it mean I think my town is drug free.
I do think that if most people you know do it that says more about you and the company you keep than it does my naivety.

MintyfreshSW · 25/12/2023 06:33

I took it a fair bit in my early 20s.

My mum was once at a house party where there were a few high ranking police officials taking it.

Most people will know someone who has taken it. I quite liked it but hated the comedown.

MaidOfSteel · 25/12/2023 06:39

I've only ever had one person I know admit to me they'd taken cocaine. And that was 20 years ago.

I really hope it's not as common as the OP stated. I don't understand the pull to take drugs like this and worry that it'd be the start of a slippery slope.

LivFG · 25/12/2023 06:42

It makes me sick. Especially the fact it is becoming normalised. But I have noticed the level to which people make excuses for it and apparently don't think it's an issue. It's just leading to chaos and needs to stop.

Shoppingfiend · 25/12/2023 06:49

There are one to two reports a month in our local paper of cars being stopped on the M6 (M74) just across the Scottish border with drugs on board.
Presumably many are not stopped. I think they are stopped there as there are no cities to hide in........ nowhere to run...............

Wallywobbles · 25/12/2023 06:55

Im in my 50s now but after uni for a good few years a lot of my peers did a massive amount of coke. Not my thing but it was very very popular until they had kids.

TypicalCoach · 25/12/2023 07:13

EasterBun23 · 24/12/2023 21:51

I'm sorry but many here are naive,

Some of you will have partners who have done/doing it.

In the pub with the lads etc
At the football
When golfing etc.

If your implying it's mostly men your wrong, In Liverpool women are on it just as much as men

It's part of the social thing for many people here men and women and it's rife here.

RuledbytheWashingMachine · 25/12/2023 07:19

There's a story doing the rounds in NI that there's a big farmer here importing the white stuff via cattle movements. There was a cow recently found dead on the boat and as it happened during transport a postmortem was necessary. The report showed a bag of cocaine had ruptured and this is what led to the animal's death.

Solymoly · 25/12/2023 07:20

When I was young it was men that mainly took cocaine, this was in the 70s though. Women weren't allowed in many golf clubs then

BestBadger · 25/12/2023 07:25

ExtraOnions · 24/12/2023 21:24

I don’t know anyone who does Cocaine … I would never be friends with someone who did Cocaine - they are supporting the enslavement and murder of Children and Adults, so they can feel a bit more interesting. Anyone who does Cocaine is morally bankrupt

While that is true, plus it is environmentally devastating, it's also true that for most chocolate, even when it states otherwise, that exploitative child labour & slavery is involved.

foodispower.org/human-labor-slavery/slavery-chocolate/

There are plenty of murders, particularly of indigenous South Americans, surrounding the deforestation of the Amazon in order to grow the soya to feed our livestock.

If the Columbians legalised the production of cocaine, so farmers and farm workers had a fair share of the profits, would that satisfy your moral code?

There's exploitation involved in pretty much everything we consume, that's the nature of capitalism. The idea of ethical consumerism is mostly just a marketing ploy, you can even buy "ethical cocaine" for a marked up price. (It isn't ethical, obviously)

Enjoy your Christmas selection box, I couldn't be around somebody who ate chocolate just for the momentary hit. They're obviously morally bankrupt.

It may look like I work for the cocaine marketing board, but I'm not advocating for it. It's ruining football for example with coked-up piss-heads scrapping at games. I just don't think having a prurient attitude towards drug use adds anything to any discussion around it.

MikeRafone · 25/12/2023 07:29

I worked in the motor trade from 2014 - 2017 and I'd say 80%+ of the car salesmen (main dealer) did Coke. In the customer toilets. Nights out. Dealing in the car park. I was shocked.

I work in a pub, we have two dealerships come in on a Friday after work, similar story. I know a mechanic who left another dealership as manager was massive coke head.

I also know bricky who had a coke problem, it’s rife amongst this trade.

when you go into some pubs the toilets are designed to prevent the cistern being used to take drugs.

there are more adults taking coke than families going skiing, the latter is around 2% whereas the former is 3% of adults
