Something sinister going on about Cocaine in the UK

Something sinister is going on.

We all know people on Cocaine, it's very very popular, every time i go in the toilets in my local bars on the weekend there's lads in there doing and dealing it.

Recenly it was reported that the UK is the second most popular country for cocaine..

We are an Island country. (excluding NI).

How the hell is so much getting in our borders? There are sniffer dogs and checks at airports and sea ports. You can very well imagine some is getting in..

But enough to feed a population of 67million? nah

I used to think I didn’t know anyone who used cocaine, then it became clear that I know plenty. People don’t necessarily shout about it from the roof tops & I imagine many people would be surprised by who does take this drug.

Plsdiscuss · 25/12/2023 00:15

Agree with previous posters saying you're naive if you think you don't know any coke users.

The more popular it's become, the more people are feeling comfortable sharing they occasionally use. I've found out in the last 2 years that 3 of my friends are users every few months or so.

I have no doubt that several of my colleagues and wider acquaintances are too.

RudolfsLeftToe · 25/12/2023 00:15

@Newsenmum reliving their youth? Arrested development? A show of wealth? I find it all a bit sad, I could almost understand it if they were on an all nighter but not when they’re just at home with friends round or our very tame local.

I don’t know anyone who does Cocaine … I would never be friends with someone who did Cocaine - they are supporting the enslavement and murder of Children and Adults, so they can feel a bit more interesting. Anyone who does Cocaine is morally bankrupt

I agree. They are funding horrific violence in poor countries.

Atre · 25/12/2023 00:28

Albanians.

The UK has long had a wee dusting of marching powder. The expense only made it aspirational and Brits generally go for anything aspirational.

When the Albanians got in on it they set up buying direct from source countries so they can get loads more than came from older more convoluted supply routes.

We've got a lot of ports in a small area as we're a small country with a relatively strong shipping economy. Ports are way easier to transport drugs through than airports. A geographically small affluent island with a lot of ports is a cocaine transporters dream set-up. So it could just be that - we're the right physical and economic shape to be good market.

QueenMegan · 25/12/2023 00:32

It's the drug of twats

Fruitbatdancer · 25/12/2023 00:36

Recently become aware I think it’s used a lot at work, work nights out etc. I work in the city, I’m naive as fuck and had no idea till someone mentioned it, I thought were tipsy/ drunk, nope, turns out high. I am 😱😱😱 and happy to admit I’m clutching pearls over what, if anything to do about it (I’m senior)

EdinGirl · 25/12/2023 00:39

I could name 5 or 6 people off the top of my head who do it.
Age range from 35ish to 50.
Middle class to upper middle.

It is MUCH more prevalent than most people realise.
Especially amongst certain industries, finance & law seem to be the ones I've noticed.

It's not something I have ever done or would ever do, but it's ridiculously common.

If you can say you don't know anyone who does it, it's likely they just don't tell you about it 🤷🏼‍♀️

GrinchCat · 25/12/2023 00:41

It can come in via container ships. I live in another country and we have had several cases recently of this. A diver drowned attempting to retrieve a shipment attached to the underside of a ship at my local port, and just today there is a story of several huge, barnacle-encrusted packages of cocaine washing up nearby beaches. (Police are urging the public to 'hand them in').

Itsnamechange · 25/12/2023 00:43

I used to take it in my 20s. Haven't for many years since I became a parent. I'd say it was pretty endemic in my (fairly working class) town in the 20-30 age group at that time. Quite a few people I know developed problems and got into debt.
These days I'm 43 and barely go out but often see evidence in bar toilets if I ever do make the pub. I imagine most people saying they don't know anyone who takes cocaine, does really, they just aren't aware of it.

EasterBun23 · 24/12/2023 21:51

I'm sorry but many here are naive,

Some of you will have partners who have done/doing it.

In the pub with the lads etc
At the football
When golfing etc.

My DH doesn’t go to the pub with the lads or football or golf 😂 he goes rock climbing and hiking. Pretty sure he’s not doing coke whilst doing that.
I have never done drugs in my life apart from smoked weed a couple of times which did nothing for me but DH would have no need to hide drug use from me and we have been together since we were 20.

I don’t know anyone currently who openly does drugs although I don’t doubt I do know people who might do it but it’s not something we’d ever talk about.

Red0 · 25/12/2023 00:46

All those adamant they don’t know anyone who takes it… how would you know? It’s not something many go around advertising. Honestly you’re naive thinking you “don’t mix in those circles”. It’s not all 20 something lads you know, it’s professional people, manual workers, parents of young kids. I don’t “move in those circles” but I know there a lot of people I know through friends who are taking it recreationally, even in only occasionally.

Red0 · 25/12/2023 00:47

I’m talking about people in their early to mid 40s by the way

Forgotmylogindetails · 25/12/2023 00:56

these statistics are bollocks….

drug addicts are also in denial and liars…

hardly going to go oh yes I do coke add that to your statistics.

marrybarry · 25/12/2023 01:01

All my siblings do coke regularly and their partners.

MintJulia · 25/12/2023 01:06

I've only ever known one person do cocaine, someone I worked with, about 1993. None of my family or friends do, so not quite 67 million.

Like me, they have no desire to risk their health, their careers, their finances or their driving licences. My lot have all given up smoking, if they ever did, and some are even teetotal.

But I don't live in a city.

dooneyousmugelf · 25/12/2023 01:08

Yep most people round here do it (not me I can't think of anything worse) from fellow professionals to the lads I know socially. It's prolific

Amortentia · 25/12/2023 01:18

Was just going to post something similar. It’s absolutely rife at football matches now.

Thewondererhasreturned · 25/12/2023 01:18

I have heard stories of people dressing up as nuns/priests and apparently they never get searched but they smuggle it in. This way a few years ago some one told me this. Obviously there's other ways and methods but this is one I know of. I rarely see sniffer dogs in the uk dont think I ever have. I assume to carry such quantities it must be strapped to the body somehow if not in a suitcase

LostStars39 · 25/12/2023 01:40

I take coke recreationally maybe once a month, as do a couple of work colleagues, my sister, her boyfriends, a lot of their mates, a few of my friends, my friends dad and her neighbour….
Before I started taking it I would have been absolutely shocked to find out half the people I now know take it! It genuinely doesn’t become a big deal and it’s so easy to hide as well. So if you want to keep it a secret you can.

Saschka · 25/12/2023 01:45

When I was a teenager (90s) coke and heroin were the two scary Serious Drugs nobody touched. Weed, pills, mushrooms, acid all seen as fine (crack and meth weren’t really on our radar).

These days coke seems to have been normalised - I was horrified to read in the Brianna Ghey murder trial that she was lured to her death with the offer of taking coke in the park. Aged 15. That really shocked me. I do know a lot of people who will take it down the pub on any random evening - they are acquaintances not friends, my actual friends don’t take it, but it’s pretty rife.

DM is a massive football fan, and despite being in her 70s she still goes to a lot of home matches. And she notices a lot of men around her (in the family stand, so should be calmer) off their faces on coke. Often in charge of young kids themselves. She won’t take DS until he’s older because of the amount of aggression from coked up fans around her.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/12/2023 01:54

I don't know anyone who does it, or other drugs either.

LargeSquareRock · 25/12/2023 02:00

Everyone who uses coke might as well be putting the bullets themselves in the heads of hundreds of children, teenagers and young people. Fuckers. You can argue that it should be legal but right now it’s not. And your fucking little fun habit is directly responsible for funding the cartel’s annihilation of families. You are the worst type of people on Earth. For a quick high, a bullet in the head for a little Mexican girl.

EnthENd · 25/12/2023 02:13

Most of us know someone who does it. Not so many of us know someone who is open about taking it to us. If we don't move in the same circle or go to the same events, and especially if we're obviously anti-drug, the cokeheads aren't going to tell us.

But only a few percent of people take any kind of Class A. Even considering that surveys might underestimate use, 80-90% of people don't use any illegal drugs at all. If most of your friends are doing cocaine then you have a bunch of druggies for friends.
