Something sinister going on about Cocaine in the UK

Something sinister is going on.

We all know people on Cocaine, it's very very popular, every time i go in the toilets in my local bars on the weekend there's lads in there doing and dealing it.

Recenly it was reported that the UK is the second most popular country for cocaine..

We are an Island country. (excluding NI).

How the hell is so much getting in our borders? There are sniffer dogs and checks at airports and sea ports. You can very well imagine some is getting in..

But enough to feed a population of 67million? nah

It's really common particularly amongst the middle classes who then complain about the associated knife crime 🤔

It’s not, though. It’s about 2%.

Theimpossiblegirl · 24/12/2023 21:33

A local farmer found a load of coke in an animal feed delivery from Colombia. I know lots of people that take coke but don't count them as friends.

I think it's totally immoral to take coke and don't even get me started on the middle aged, middle class hypocrisy of it all. Buying fair trade coffee and then buying cocaine...

PlantsFallLikeDominoes · 24/12/2023 21:34

I think a lot of it comes from Albania. It's smuggled in by the traffickers. It used to come from Jamaica and other islands decades ago but the Albanians have taken it over. It comes in food hauls, hair products for sale, people smuggling it inside them. I think the number is much higher than 3% and there are obviously a lot of backhanders at ports etc.

Picklemeyellow · 24/12/2023 21:36

DS18 was working on a building site as an apprentice. He was taken aback just how many lads are doing coke, on site as well. He’s since changed careers, I’m glad.
I would say personally I don’t know anyone who does coke but then again how would I know? Who goes around telling friends and family they snort cocaine on a weekend?

verdantverdure · 24/12/2023 21:37

We don't have effective border checks since Brexit do we?

So drugs, human trafficking, illegal meat imports etc are all way up.

nottaotter · 24/12/2023 21:37

@EasterBun23 thats exactly what they do, except its not by the phone. The National Statistics Survey interviews anonymously a cross section of society about everything from health, relationships, how people spend leisure time, how they were affected by Corona virus.

People are selected initially and an in person in depth interview done about their general views on life and then everything else is done on a website that is completely anonymous.

These figures are compiled by The office of national statistics and published online.

It may be a generational thing.
It is perfectly possible that those who are younger do not know anyone who does cocaine, because it is much more a habit of those who are middle aged.

That's not my experience plenty of 20 somethings doing it

I'm not young, and could swear in court that none of my friends have ever done cocaine. I'm sure I know some people who have, but I don't actually know that they have.

I also live on an island and there is a huge amount of drugs getting into my country - there are ways.

I worked in the motor trade from 2014 - 2017 and I'd say 80%+ of the car salesmen (main dealer) did Coke. In the customer toilets. Nights out. Dealing in the car park. I was shocked.

BrownTableMat · 24/12/2023 21:42

I did it once, over 20 years ago. Was nice but I had and have no desire to repeat the experience. I was young and silly and led astray by a reprehensible flatmate. Since her I’ve never known anyone who does it. I’m sure I do know people who do, but nobody’s ever told me. I very much doubt all 67 million Brits are snorting it.

GoldenFishes · 24/12/2023 21:19

I don't know anyone who does cocaine, ok so I don't have many friends and don't go out much so while I have no doubt it is happening maybe its not as common as you assume.

I don't do cocaine or think I know anyone who does it but my work tells me that incredibly naive - it's all over the^ place, so, so much useage.^
^
I'm now of the opinion we all know someone who uses it, sadly.

Solymoly · 24/12/2023 21:44

I knew a lot when I was in my 20s and 30s but not really after that, mainly men though

WashItTomorrow · 24/12/2023 21:44

statistics are:

  • In the year ending June 2022, 2.7% of adults aged 16 to 59 years and 4.7% of adults aged 16 to 24 years reported last year Class A drug use; a significant decrease from the year ending March 2020 when this was 3.4% and 7.4%, respectively.
  • In the year ending June 2022, 2.6% of adults aged 16 to 59 years reported being frequent users of drugs (using them more than once a month in the past year);
Dartmoorcheffy · 24/12/2023 21:45

Almost everyone I know does it. From all walks of life. And I don't live in a big city.

Janieforever · 24/12/2023 21:45

Do you do coke? You can’t really think everyone does coke, inc kids? Are you ok?

I also don’t know anyone who does it, and in my locals no there isn’t lads obviously dealing.

I guess it figures large in your life?

GoldenFishes · 24/12/2023 21:47

This is a odd thread.
Some people move in circles where cocaine use is normal and common.
Some people move in circles where nobody would touch drugs.
Neither one is necessarily more right than another.
It's interesting that those who don't know anyone who does it accept that there are people that do but that they don't know them. Whereas the people who do know lots of people who do are trying to insist the first group are wrong and they do know people who do they are just unaware.

InflatableSanta · 24/12/2023 21:48

I do a lot of yachting, backwards and forward across the channel etc. in fact pretty much everyone I know does. In 20 plus years of yachting I don't know anyone whose yacht has been searched. I know they rely on intelligence but our boarders really aren't that sealed.

Isntfurenough · 24/12/2023 21:48

Same way drugs get into prisons ….. from the top . It’s a second income for a good number of those in the position to receive without question then supply

InflatableSanta · 24/12/2023 21:49

(I've never taken cocaine or even seen it being taken, but I "know of" people who do)

MollyButton · 24/12/2023 21:50

I'm in my 50s and despite articles about sharing parenting responsibilities with opportunities for doing coke, none of my friends did it. My children all knew people who did it, but none of them have - partly because I told them how much I disliked it and the way it wrecks the environment where it's produced (and I'm not claiming all my children haven't tried other drugs).
And whilst I'm sure it can be obtained around here - only a tiny proportion of the population use it.
Now canabis use has expanded massively.

So OP I do think it's who you mix with/where you live.

ladygindiva · 24/12/2023 21:51

I agree op. I live in a very middle class Cornish village and it's rife , especially amongst 40-50 year old age group. I don't understand it.

EasterBun23 · 24/12/2023 21:51

I'm sorry but many here are naive,

Some of you will have partners who have done/doing it.

In the pub with the lads etc
At the football
When golfing etc.

Dogknowsbest · 24/12/2023 21:55

It doesn't surprise me. I don't remember the last time I saw a sniffer dog at Heathrow or Gatwick.
