Something sinister going on about Cocaine in the UK

Something sinister is going on.

We all know people on Cocaine, it's very very popular, every time i go in the toilets in my local bars on the weekend there's lads in there doing and dealing it.

Recenly it was reported that the UK is the second most popular country for cocaine..

We are an Island country. (excluding NI).

How the hell is so much getting in our borders? There are sniffer dogs and checks at airports and sea ports. You can very well imagine some is getting in..

But enough to feed a population of 67million? nah

I'm sorry but many here are naive,

Some of you will have partners who have done/doing it.

In the pub with the lads etc
At the football
When golfing etc.

Can you explain what you mean by sinister though? because so far all I found out from this thread is that some people do drugs. Which I knew.

TheCountIsPale · 24/12/2023 21:57

Many (most) of the people in my social circle take cocaine. They have been for many years.

I don’t because it’s grim. I am known(!) in my circles as ‘straight edge’ as a result. I drink alcohol!

It is just everywhere in London.

I think you’re just trying to convince yourself that it’s normal, when in fact it actually isn’t- as statistics show.

nottaotter · 24/12/2023 21:22

Government figures say just over 3% of all adults have taken a class A drug in the last year, that seems low, but I have no idea about other countries.

I think sometimes if you are around a group of people who do something/talk a certain way etc it can skew your perception.

Government figures are so accurate. 🤣 come on it's nearly 2024, surely by now you know they don't tell the truth?

You need to accept that not everyone is the same.
In fact my husband not only doesn't do cocaine but he also doesn't do the activities you list.
Like I have repeatedly said people have different lives and move in different circles.

Divinespark · 24/12/2023 22:00

On that message. I don't know anyone close friends or family who do coke, but I know people that do, and they aren't in a good place mentally.

RiddlePiddle · 24/12/2023 22:00

All those thinking they don’t know anyone who does cocaine - you probably do and just don’t realise it. It’s honestly rife amongst so many walks of life. I’ve never taken it but have a couple of friends who socialise a lot with people who do. I’m talking teachers, nurses, business people, parents from school who you would never guess did that kind of thing on a weekend. I worked a few hours in a small local pub around covid time and saw a lot of it happening. So many people you would never expect it of.

Adding an emoji doesn’t help your argument. And the ONS is independent, not part of the government.

IAmAnIdiot123 · 24/12/2023 22:01

I am very anti drug as an adult so it would probably surprise most people I know that I dabbled in coke as an older teen. I wouldn't be so quick to say I didn't know anyone who did it/has tried it in my friend group, even if they don't seem 'the type'.

Flightdelay · 24/12/2023 22:02

I’ve posted something about this before and everyone commented saying they didn’t know anyone who had taken it. When I was at school (15 years ago) it really wasn’t a thing in the very young people, in my area anyway, may have been with those in nightclubs though, but now it’s everywhere! In every pub in my town there will be people with it in their pocket right now. No one even seems to see it as a big deal! Out of my friends who are male I don’t know anyone who hasn’t 🤦🏻‍♀️ Out of my friends who are female it’s probably close to 50/50 and I have a very decent group of friends I would say. I’m in the 50% who have never taken it. I’m sure it makes you feel great but I’ve just never understood it at all. It terrifies me now I’m a mum, especially to a boy and knowing that it’s even rife among the school aged kids in my area now 😳

Maybe not, but it's actually hilarious anyone would trust 'Governemt' figures. If it triggers you then give your head a wobble. Times have changed. They are very corrupt and throw figures that are far accurate about anything.

Grimmz · 24/12/2023 22:02

Over the last 10 years or so I have heard many times m how widely used cocaine is in the UK (and elsewhere) but whether you're exposed to it or not must depend on your social circle because no one I know openly uses it.

It’s nothing to do with the government. They haven’t produced the figures.

nationallampoons · 24/12/2023 22:03

My ex sold it, one of the many reasons why he is my ex.
They bring it in using many ways, it's crazy.

OwlWeiwei · 24/12/2023 22:04

jgw1 · 24/12/2023 21:24

It may be a generational thing.
It is perfectly possible that those who are younger do not know anyone who does cocaine, because it is much more a habit of those who are middle aged.

I'm middle aged and don't know anyone who takes it. I have known people in the past who took it and they were insufferable bores with massively overinflated egos.

But OP, I agree, it is odd that so much is getting into the country so easily. And that we use it so heavily. We drink more heavily than most countries too.

WashItTomorrow · 24/12/2023 22:05

I live in London and work in the media - TV. I don’t know anyone who takes cocaine.

Was he a hot bad boi that rocked your world? Good looking?

By sinister I mean.. corruption - maybe border/customs officials are on the payroll and looking the other way.

I think the government could do a lot more. A few hundred million into border force.. loads more employees, more technology employed, more intelligence on the big dealers etc..

They don't care.

Don’t know anyone on coke or ever have.

pickledandpuzzled · 24/12/2023 22:08

No one I know uses it. I know my goddaughter struggled with her flatmates drug use at uni.

My sons are aware of it among peers.

But my circle doesn’t hang out in pubs, go to football, golf etc. and we don’t do coke. Not everyone lives the same lifestyle. (We’re in our fifties.)

DS is an accountant and I assume the seniors who struggle with alcohol have also struggled with coke. The younger cohort are much more abstemious and about 1/4 of them don’t drink either.

It is a horrible drug I was a drug addiction from the age of 13 cocaine whilst not psychically addictive it can be mentally and the comedown is horrific.ive spoken to mum son about my previous addiction in the hope it puts him off, like you I still worry due to how easy it is to get these days.

Ponoka7 · 24/12/2023 22:08

WashItTomorrow · 24/12/2023 21:31

It’s not, though. It’s about 2%.

How would that figure be calculated though?

The drugs that flooded deprived inner cities in the 80's were ignored. I think now they have genuinely lost control.

Solymoly · 24/12/2023 22:08

I knew loads of people when I was younger who took it but it wasn't the same government then.

RedToothBrush · 24/12/2023 22:08

I don't know anyone who does cocaine.

I do know there is a problem with dealing at a local restaurant and loads of 20 somethings go there and it's a known trouble spot despite being in a nice area 'you wouldn't expect that type of thing'.

DHs parents were telling us this week how there was a problem out the back of their house earlier in the week too. There is now no longer a problem out the back of their house ...

But yes it is a lot more widespread than you think.

CoatOfArms · 24/12/2023 22:09

VickyEadieofThigh · 24/12/2023 21:21

I've never known anyone who does or has done cocaine.

Neither do I. Although I am well past the clubbing on a Saturday night stage.

PlantsFallLikeDominoes · 24/12/2023 22:10

The government don't care because they use it too. Traces of coke were found in Boris's toilet when he was PM and it's well known he does it.
