Well,am I?

I object very strongly to people using the word "cunt" as a perjorative term - I think it's offensive and degrading to women. I challenge people who use it in RL. Do I have a point? Or not?

YABU this is a site for adults and adults swear I like mn because it doesn't censor (much) if it did, there would be many of us who would leave.

There are many many sites that don't swear and fine for them, but mn is refreshing and honest and yes that includes swearing.

You don't like the word cunt, Someone else doesn't like fuckwit I personally hate ballache but I will fight for your freedom to shout ballache every time you stub you toes and choose to post about it.

(I deliberately didn't censor myself and will not because it is a word. Not a punch in the head.)

BrothelSprouts · 16/03/2008 18:14

I think we should all find some common ground and just censor the word 'moist'.

Shall I start a petition on a site stuff thread?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 16/03/2008 18:16

Slur - what is ballache? Am very curious to know.

S1ur · 16/03/2008 18:21

Precisely it just doesn't conjour up good images now does it?

Oh, do you mean the slang word for testicles?

S1ur · 16/03/2008 18:25

No it seems generally used like, gawd that conference was such a baaawwllllache.

Or that person is such a .. blah blah. Just crap word don't like, but go on its ok my sensibilities can handle it if you use it

S1ur · 16/03/2008 18:26

Ah yes, balls=testicles so ache = well ache or pain.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 16/03/2008 18:29

Ooooh, I've never heard of that. I have obviously led a sheltered life

Don't worry, I won't make you say it again!

SheikYerboutisEggHunt · 16/03/2008 18:31

banning the word cunt would be the thin end of the wedge imho

Next it would be tickers and arse licky moderators who would lock threads etc, like I have seen on other sites.

AbbeyA · 16/03/2008 18:55

I wouldn't want to censor anything-I just think that it is a shame that intelligent adults have to resort to swearing to get a point across.

I think its a bit immature. Like its said for shock value .
I don't say it cause it's never been part of my vocab

LLD · 16/03/2008 19:12

As the original OP and the cause of the debate etc, I do think it behoves you to at least get the correct spelling for that word wot means wimmin-aters.

SoupDragon · 16/03/2008 19:14

I do think thread titles should be swearing free. Inside a thread anything goes (apart from racially offensive stuff!)

AbbeyA · 16/03/2008 19:19

I agree entirely with tinylady.

Boco · 16/03/2008 19:20

I find the word 'hubby' more offensive than the word cunt.

fairyfly · 16/03/2008 19:20

I used the word cunt, i wrote it down, you may find that immature but how dare you patronise me and more to the point can you put your finger on what exactky is wrong with being immature?????
Because i assure you i have the maturity to raise my children into wonderful little men all on my own. ( without the need to hide the word cunt on the internet)

Yes it would be awful if i shouted cunts at my kids, but it would be also awful if shouted at my kids using any word. They would be upset with the aggression, not the word.I jst don't shout at them , or use language like that in front of them though. I have used it on a sodding thread title on the internet. I really really do wish i could find the time to get offened by such shit, but i have real problems in my real life.

Everyone should stop trying to be so up their own arses, sanctimonious wollies.

MadameCh0let · 16/03/2008 19:21

I agree. It's disgusting. In Ireland they sometimes call a husband 'himself'. I feel sea sick when I hear that.

seeker · 16/03/2008 19:31

Fairyfly - why can't you discuss the subject without being rude?

OP posts:
fairyfly · 16/03/2008 19:33

ok, next time i want to use a rude word i will exchange it for, fluffy kitten or lollipop and then nobody can be offended or cry at the silly ickle imatture girl.

AbbeyA · 16/03/2008 19:35

I can't stand the word 'hubby' either! I also hate men saying 'the wife'. In fact there are a lot of words I don't like-but I think you have to leave people free to use them. I don't think bad language gets people anywhere-a calm, more reasoned argument gets you much further.

I can't understand why you are so angry - have I missed something?

OP posts:
fairyfly · 16/03/2008 19:42

I do mind if my children read and repeat swear words actually. So get a grip.
