...from Christmas related things. Santa lives at the North Pole and penguins at the South Pole. They are NOT Christmassy and yet they get their little beaky faces plastered on cards and T-shirts and wrapping paper.

Sticking Santa hats on random animals does not make them a symbol of Christmas.

If you want to be accurate, according to New Scientist a lot of the wildlife at the Nativity would have been flesh eating parasites… https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn19893-zoologger-christmas-special-the-biology-of-the-stable/

I thought it was going to be about the chocolate biscuits and I was thinking do they even sell Penguins anymore?

I thought that too and was up for defending them as they’re my favourite biscuit, especially the mint ones😂

They still have Christmas in the South Pole though. If the penguins want to celebrate Christmas then they can.

That is a very good point. Last week when I was smirking at penguins being at the North Pole with Santa I didn't consider how the penguins felt. If they want to be on a Christmas card or visit the North Pole then so they should, it's their Christmas too!

MagpiePi · 23/12/2023 09:25

Penguin skeletons are not how you think they’d be.

A very literal and neuro diverse friend had girlfriend who dressed quite flamboyantly in the late 90s. Her winter outfit included a faux suede and faux fur coat embroidered with animals from different polar regions cavorting about together. When he explained this was ‘all wrong’ she was not impressed. He did rate the white leather trousers she wore with it though. She was like a younger and more glam Su Pollard. Another seasonal speciality was wearing the top of a Santa costume as a dress with fishnet tights 😂

And Santa's never been to the South Pole?

Penguins are as Christmassy as robins- now what do they actually have to do with Christmas??

Robins supposedly have red breasts because they tried to pull the thorns from Jesus's crown. So they are legit.

(Although knowing robins, had one actually been around the crucifixion it is less likely to have displayed pious avian sympathy and more likely have responded with 'Red thing in my territory! Attack it!)

HeraSyndulla · 23/12/2023 11:37

Santa doesn’t live at the North Pole, he lives in Lapland…… der !

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 23/12/2023 12:50

No they shouldn't as people can still be wintery and festive if they don't celebrate Santa festive Xmas day traditionally- and all the South Africans and Australians only have penguins to celebrate with!

REP22 · 23/12/2023 13:08

The baby Jesus loves penguins too.

I thought this was going to be a thread about bollards. It would have been at one time.

I thought the biscuits 🙊

HRTQueen · 23/12/2023 13:14

According to the Dutch Santa lives in Spain …. 😧

wrong of course Santa doesn’t speak Spanish so why would he live there (some may recognise this line …)

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 23/12/2023 13:49

Whilst we’re talking about Santa being Spanish, here is your ear worm for today ..

OP you’ve said polo bears twice which makes me think it wasn’t a typo and you actually call them polo bears, which I love.

i agree on the penguins btw. My parents have some old Christmas decorations which are Eskimo (Inuit? Indigenous people of the arctic circle?) themed and it always annoyed me - just because they live in a cold place doesn’t mean they’re anything to do with Christmas??

ZombieGirl86 · 23/12/2023 20:26

Who cares? They are cute and kids love cute things, it's for them not you. In the nicest way get a grip x
