AIBU in thinking penguins should be banned...

...from Christmas related things. Santa lives at the North Pole and penguins at the South Pole. They are NOT Christmassy and yet they get their little beaky faces plastered on cards and T-shirts and wrapping paper.

Sticking Santa hats on random animals does not make them a symbol of Christmas.

Well, if we're being strict and fundamental about it, the only thing to do with Christmas is the birth of Jesus.

Anything else is an addition.

If elves and flying reindeer can exist in Santa’s workshop at the North Pole then penguins certainly can too, maybe the polar bears don’t want to pitch in with Christmas so penguins are flown in to fill the employment gaps.

Maybe strip it back further and just celebrate the Solstice? There's lots of different midwinter traditions combined into Christmas/yuletide.

Also, nobody who designs cards and decorations knows the difference between a reindeer and any other type of deer. Reindeer look nothing like most other deer, and have very thick, shaggy fur, and are heavily built with blunt, quite bovine faces. They look nothing like red deer or fallow deer or roe deer.

This thread has caused me to do a quick audit of my cards. One 🐧 card, one with with a dachshund in a santa hat, one Highland cow with a robin. One card with an angel. The rest of wreaths, trees and baubles.

Santa is from Lapland, not the North Pole. Fact. That’s where reindeer live and also an Elf told me.
