This is disgusting, selfish and downright thievery which takes away the enjoyment of others.

Hope this guy gets caught, convicted and locked up.

Really want Banksy to continue doing this sort of art installations but fgs can't it just be left for others to admire?

Onlookers 'watched in awe' as man removed Banksy art - BBC News

Banksy, believed to have been born in Yate, included three drones on a stop sign in his latest piece.

If he didn’t take it, someone else would have.

Better a pleb than an art gallery.

44PumpLane · 22/12/2023 20:38

I also believe that unless there is a complaining party the police can't register a crime, and unless Banksy comes forward it's essentially the council pursuing someone for stealing a stop sign which isn't worth the policies time.

But you're not wrong.....it's shit that we can't just have something nice, some arse has to come along and ruin it for everyone.

ssd · 22/12/2023 20:40

Its like whoever cut down that beautiful tree this summer. Bastards have to ruin it for everyone.

ValerieMoore · 22/12/2023 20:41

lol what beautiful tree @ssd

TrishTrix · 22/12/2023 20:42

There was a Banksy artwork in a tunnel near one of my previous flats.

The stupid council sent some workers out to paint over it as they thought it was grafitti. I chanced upon them. Told them. They stopped. Phoned their boss. Who consulted some senior people. Decided it was a really Banksy and it was left partially painted over for another few years.

Last time I drove past though it had gone in it's entirety.

lol what beautiful tree @ssd

Why 'lol', then?

ValerieMoore · 22/12/2023 20:44

@LadyMonicaBaddingham it was funny

Tinkerbyebye · 22/12/2023 20:48

Well as Banksy is nothing more than someone whose antisocial behaviour (graffiti ) has people thinking he is good I find it rather funny that people are up in arms about the sign being taken

Hipnotised · 22/12/2023 20:50

@Tinkerbyebye I don't think it was taken for altruistic reasons!

Banksy is a multimillionaire plagerist who's work is over valued and pumped up by the rich public school set he went to boarding school with. I am glad a bloke nicked it but you can bet the 'art establishment' will find some way of robbing him of the profits/

14Q · 22/12/2023 20:57

I don’t think it’s a real stop sign so I’m wondering if the whole thing is staged. The timing and the clarity of the photos of the villains are making me suspicious.
We can wait and see.

@LadyMonicaBaddingham it was funny

It really wasn't. What is wrong with you??

@LadyMonicaBaddingham it was funny

Wow!
You are the only person who has said it was funny.
Very strange sense of humour 😣

ValerieMoore · 22/12/2023 21:05

@Justcallmebebes what do you think is wrong with me ?

Hmm just looked on google earth and the stop sign is there. So it was a legit sign. I'm suprised banks would admit defacing a stop sign. That's not ok.

Banksy’s work is about as interesting and insightful as a Live Laugh Love print from The Range, so I can’t bring myself to care that somebody nicked one

@Justcallmebebes what do you think is wrong with me ?

You said "what beautiful tree" - hell, I know it was the Sycamore Gap tree just from reading Mumsnet, and I'm in Australia! What sort of person thinks that's funny?

Fouramclub · 22/12/2023 21:10

Maybe the person who took it was Banksy...

14Q · 22/12/2023 21:11

I think it was a bit funny tbh. Surely it was what Banksy was intending?

QuillBill · 22/12/2023 21:12

I thought Banksy had said previously that he didn't mind and thought it was a part of it that his stuff was taken or painted over.

Well I’m sorry I don’t know a famous tree

Couldn't agree more. One appeared in my local area. He's no better than a vandal. I just don't get the fuss.

Yes, it’s best if just one person enjoys it rather than the public enjoying it in a public gallery.

Who has he plagiarised?
