What do you think?

Eekmystro · 22/12/2023 19:32

Na there is still money to be made so people will still be landlords.

brainworms · 22/12/2023 19:32

Landlords are parasites.

tescocreditcard · 22/12/2023 19:32

I agree, a lot of people seem to be selling up now. Well, more than used to anyway.

sprigatito · 22/12/2023 19:33

I think if people don't want to be the sort of landlord who can support decent treatment of tenants, then they probably shouldn't be landlords.

Kannet111 · 22/12/2023 19:34

brainworms · 22/12/2023 19:32

Landlords are parasites.

So what's the alternative!

Some are bad landlords but I'm sure the vast majority are just trying to make their way in the world

LordSnot · 22/12/2023 19:35

Fingers crossed, yes.

Landlords are parasites.

Where should people live if they don’t want to buy a property?

girlfriend44 · 22/12/2023 19:36

brainworms · 22/12/2023 19:32

Landlords are parasites.

Landlords provide a service there isn't enough social housing, so where would we be without them renting out.

I'm sure some people are grateful to their landlords for a roof over their heads.

More and more landlords are selling up due to stress, bad tenants and the fact the interest rates on money is good

Seen it loads lately. My landlord is selling where Can I live?

RoomOfRequirement · 22/12/2023 19:36

Good. So many shitty humans take advantage of people with no choice. Maybe this will make those people reconsider and decent landlords will continue.

DragonMama3 · 22/12/2023 19:37

If people aren't landlords there is even less housing. How is that better?

Its bad landlords that need eliminating. The ones least likely to follow rules...

UndertheCedartree · 22/12/2023 19:38

I think it's no loss. My friend and her 2 children has just been made homeless by her awful landlord. He'd always threaten to kick them out if she asked for repairs etc.

Eekmystro · 22/12/2023 19:38

People acting like it would be the end of the world if people stopped being landlords and sold up. Erm the houses don’t disappear, they’d still be on the market in some form. Maybe in fact it would be more affordable for people to buy if there were less people using property for an income.

Iminpatchinghell · 22/12/2023 19:38

The standards councils and housing associations are held to should be the same for private landlords. So many private landlords don’t treat tenants fairly.
Could it help bring house prices down if private landlords aren’t buying the cheaper properties? I reckon so.
I’m not demonising private landlords, I just think it shouldn’t be something you do to make a good percentage on an investment. It should be something you take seriously as career. It’s peoples lives.

tescocreditcard · 22/12/2023 19:38

It's possible that more housing stock coming onto the market will reduce the price and make home ownership more affordable so that some of the people who used to rent will be able to buy.

brainworms · 22/12/2023 19:32

Landlords are parasites.

And speaking as a thankfully ex-landlord, tenants are fuckers, who have zero respect for a property, they move out with no notice, leaving the property with lots of damage that costs hundreds and even thousands to put right.

Abbimae · 22/12/2023 19:40

It’s weird people hate landlords and want to freeload. It’s not your house. Why would someone house you for free?

Supply & Demand doesn't apply to housing.

NightisdarkandfullofterrorsGOT · 22/12/2023 19:42

How so? You have a flat you rent out to generate income as you have long term health issues that prevent you from working. You don’t over charge and fix things when they need fixing. How does that make you a parasite?

ErrolTheDragon · 22/12/2023 19:42

The change is likely to result in decent people quitting being landlords. It'll just be the tough ones who stick with it.

BingoWings85 · 22/12/2023 19:43

Supply & Demand doesn't apply to housing.

Interesting statement. Odd that housing’s more expensive in more populated and desirable areas then.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 22/12/2023 19:43

It's easy for someone who is housed that's either bought or like me are in a secure tenancy to say "to hell with private landlords" but that's just silly and shows a great deal of privilege.
What's the alternative, since building more social housing won't happen at all overnight.

tescocreditcard · 22/12/2023 19:43

I thought supply and demand applied to everything.

Why do you think it doesn't apply to housing?

Landlords aren't parasites.

The houses would still be available :/
Either prices would drop as more housing stock hits the market thereby enabling people to buy, or the properties would be bought by corporations who have large portfolios of properties and don't worry so much about individual tenants and can take the hit and have it still be worthwhile. Who knows, government and local authorities might even pull their fingers out and come up with strategies to increase housing stock!!

ShirleyPhallus · 22/12/2023 19:44

brainworms · 22/12/2023 19:32

Landlords are parasites.

Are they? Why?

You cannot think of any reasons at all why someone would not want to buy a house but still have somewhere to live?
