Fed up with the Instagram showing perfect homes, when the real world is much messier..: so show me your normal homes… here’s my messy (and a bit dated) kitchen

I have 2 tidy rooms, the living room and the dining room. I wouldn't dare show you my kitchen and my spare bedroom is like something off a hoarders TV programme 😁

I have an OCD husband, so my kitchen is always spotless (unless he’s away for a few nights, in which case it implodes). I actually love my kitchen as I designed it myself and found a great local business to help me source everything at discounted rates.

Your kitchen looks clean & that's the main thing. I'd have to be honest and say it's too cluttered for me. I'm a minimalist & any form of an overload of 'stuff' drives md nuts 🤣

I can’t post a picture in case someone I know recognises it - I like being anonymous on here! But we have a tiny galley kitchen, and the worktop on one side is piled high with Christmas snacks (we have family staying and have stocked up), to the point that every so often there’s a landslide. The lounge is pretty tidy and decorated nicely for Christmas, but the utility room is stuffed so full of junk (Christmas decoration boxes, the hoover, more food, pet food boxes, etc etc) that there’s barely room to open the washing machine door. My kids’ rooms look like a bomb’s exploded in a Lego shop and the bathroom is clean but a bit cluttered (no storage space and too many shower gel bottles etc). I envy those with beautiful, tidy homes, but evidently not enough to get my arse in gear and sort out our clutter.

Omg, the latest home we purchased has a galley kitchen. I absolutely love it 😁

I love looking at peoples homes. I’d like to volunteer as an estate agent just to snoop.😁 This is both ends of my kitchen/diner, as is, right now.

For those that want to see small kitchens, this is the kitchen from a flat I lived in some years ago, just this tiny galley kitchen in an open plan flat (the bit at the back behind small child was the entrance hall). Luckily it was open plan because if there was closed doors on that kitchen space it would have felt quite claustrophobic! My balcony was bigger than the kitchen!

Oh no @ThatshallotBaby I hope not! I am hoping it's something else that I could actually buy! I can't understand why they stopped it - when we were selling the house, everybody who came to view said how lovely it was, and a couple of people said they recognised it as they had it and loved it themselves.

Can you colour match? Try The Paint Shed or similar, they could probably do you some Johnstones in that colour even if discontinued.

@Ironlights when I designed my kitchen I specified that the top cupboards should go up to the ceiling - just so that it was not possible to put anything on top of them! It makes it look so much tidier.....
And - I am very proud to say that over the last week we have been going through all the cupboards and drawers, sorting things out, reorganizing and cleaning. I'm feeling very virtuous 😁

Us too! I was fed up with the clutter on top of the cupboards as well as having to get up there to dust. We had our kitchen ceiling lowered so there's no gap

Our kitchen bench has a big hole in it where the previous owners left in a condemned 2 ring gas hob. Drawers are all peeling. We have a toaster in a drawer (obvs we open it) as that's the only plug socket. Have been saving and will finally be able to get it replaced next year. Bathrooms are 20 years old and one has yellow and blue tiles. 😟 House cost us over a million in UK money. That's all you get in Auckland for that much. Oh, and the sofa is currently draped it tinfoil to prevent our lovely but neurotic cat from peeing on it. 🙄

Oh my god, I heard it was tough in Auckland but this just confirms it.

I spent my childhood on Waiheke Island. That was when I only knew one person with an inside toilet and all us kids were raggedy hippies.

Unlikely I'd even be able to afford lunch there these days.

I think your kitchen is lovely and lots of people would love one like that! Without being rude I think a really easy win for your kitchen to look a lot more lovely would be to change the handles on the cupboards and drawers! If you like them then fair enough but they don't seem to match to me!
