Fed up with the Instagram showing perfect homes, when the real world is much messier..: so show me your normal homes… here’s my messy (and a bit dated) kitchen

Wet towel on chair, laundry to be put away, random toys on floor, this is tidy for me

I certainly have never or have a six figure income.
Am more than aware many people on MN & the U.K. are facing real hardship & difficulties obtaining secure housing, escalating cost of of our most basic needs it’s shameful how many people are suffering & worrying but this thread is a lovely distraction & I admit I’m nosey right move is my guilty pleasure, also enjoy repurposing worn out furniture & painting/decorating & generally wasting time thinking about interiors.

What a nasty comment to make and I'd certainly not regard this person as a friend. You don't need to attach any more significance to this just live life.

No problem with the lounge, but a TV overhanging the stand on both sides makes my face twitch 😆. Hope you are well again soon 🙏

Heh, we had a much smaller TV then DH decided he wanted a bigger one. One day we'll get a new unit and send that one upstairs to the games room.

So many gorgeous homes here. Mine is a spotless show home type I’m afraid. Mainly because my anxiety can’t deal with mess. Kids are older so it’s easier than it used to be to keep it perfect. BUT everyone else thinks I’m obsessed and I constantly try to be more relaxed! I’d love to be more comfortable

Ok so here’s my ‘show off’ ‘stealth boast’ kitchen I posted earlier, taken right now. Oodie on the back of the chair, wrapping stuff on the worktop, dead flowers pushed aside, shopping and pressies waiting to be wrapped on the table, cups by the sink and a scruffy pup next to me! It will be put back to ‘insta’ if that’s what you want to call it tonight once we’re done wrapping, not for social media, but because I’m proud of what I’ve managed to save for and want it to look nice as often as possible.

Some of us just feel chuffed for anyone who likes their nest, no matter how scruffy/fancy, big/small, messy/tidy they happen to be. ❤️

I've been in the same house for 15 years so it's had my children, three cats and now my grandchildren all put their crap, I mean, their stamp on it.

The whole place is mismatched with no matching style, whatsoever.

Next year, my husband and I will be downsizing to an apartment and I can't wait for the place to be with just our stuff.

No doubt that it will still look mismatched but well...

Thank you, it was the star of the show when we viewed the house 24 years ago. The stove had to be cream, black would have vanished in there.

A long way back now, but @ThatshallotBaby , could you tell me what that gorgeous wall colour is please? It reminds me of a colour I had in a previous house about 20 years ago - Dulux Natural Straw - which I absolutely loved but is sadly discontinued.

A teen appeared, dumped a can on the worktop and started cooking quesadillas between photos 1 and 2.
The kitchen was redone recently but we still need to skim the walls and replace the radiator in the dining room, so it all currently looks a bit odd.

Oh my god OP - I had the same thought as you the other day! I'm so sick of perfect homes in adverts, theyre even on Munsnet and other sites aimed at mums/families - sooooo unrealistic it drives me insane 😖

But my house is way too horrific to share 😭

Oh no @ThatshallotBaby I hope not! I am hoping it's something else that I could actually buy! I can't understand why they stopped it - when we were selling the house, everybody who came to view said how lovely it was, and a couple of people said they recognised it as they had it and loved it themselves.

I love this thread, having a good nosey in everyone's homes!!! They all look 'homely' rather than cluttered so I'm afraid I can't share mine 🙃
