Fed up with the Instagram showing perfect homes, when the real world is much messier..: so show me your normal homes… here’s my messy (and a bit dated) kitchen

I'm loving these pictures in one way - but in another way, they all look Instagrammy to me as they are all so tidy and everything matches everything. Mine is utter chaos. I wouldn't dare put a picture of it on the internet.

I am happy for people to pop over unexpectedly, but they might fall over something on their way in, btw.

Thanks for the compliments! It's a cheap Ikea kitchen. I just like a lot of 'bits' around me I like your kitchen op and the only thing I'd do meantime is swap out the strip light and puts lamps around.

Geeee whizz there are certainly lots of "busy" kitchens here - I'm older though and like a minimalist style.

Here's my kitchen diner. It's probably as tidy as it ever gets as I cleaned today, but there's still a lot of random stuff

And I was surprised by how minimalist they all are. Mine is absolutely stuffed full of God knows what.

@blackteaplease Your version of "stuff out" and mine are very different...

I'm also "older". That doesn't make me tidier, though.

@Noseyneeps Oh I like the duck egg/tiffany blue. I think that's how I'd like mine, 50s style, maybe with a few milkshake-pink accessories.

But the best I can hope for really is that the council are refurbing it.

I think one thing to remember too is quite a lot of mumsnetter (like me) don't have kids at home anymore or adult children at uni etc - and whilst my H isn't the tidiest it pales compared to when our son was at home

Maybe I'm getting to the stage where you think about how much shit you have in your house for people to clear out 😂

@Noseyneeps Is it tiles, or a vinyl paper? When my bestie first moved into his place there was a vinyl paper with fruits on in the kitchen. I liked it.

These are all lovely. Mine's just boring and manky really, but hopefully they'll sort it next year.

😂 That thought crosses my mind regularly. But because I'm evil, I like to think of all the crap my DC can look forward to sorting through once I'm dead.

I see kitchens/homes like this fairly regularly through my work. It makes me sad.

Some of these kitchens are beautiful! If anyone would like to feel better, here is my disaster of a kitchen 🤣. It’s tiny, there’s not enough units, the fridge doesn’t fit in here, everything is super old, my blind fell down, I had to scrape lots of loose paint off the walls and haven’t got round to stage two of sorting it yet - the list is endless for such a tiny room 😂. On the positive side it’s got a massive window and really high ceilings. Plan for 2024 is new flooring, DC fix worktops, paint units, new blind, shelves up in the empty wall space, storage baskets for on top of units, new appliances etc! It still won’t be insta worthy though because it’ll have me trying to keep it clean and tidy 🥲!

the lounge is lovely: we decorated it a couple of years ago… but the rest of the house is still a bit random .
Spare room has a border round it and woodchip.

its not actually wooden flooring .. I think its LVT by Kardean!

Ummm… I didn’t actually notice it was tiled to the ceiling or there is anything wrong with that? Is there something wrong with it? I have no idea what to do with those tiles when we refurb.
Loathe to take them all off, but the patterns aren’t painted on but moulded on if that make sense.
