Fed up with the Instagram showing perfect homes, when the real world is much messier..: so show me your normal homes… here’s my messy (and a bit dated) kitchen

I love my sitting room. Not such a fan of the kitchen - it had been recently done when we bought the flat and it would have been a waste of money to redo it, but it isn't to my taste. We're hoping to move again in the next year or two so can't be bothered to do anything to it now, either.

@Chelsea26 that's a lovely kitchen!

Co1inRobinson · 22/12/2023 18:49

Took this earlier when the thread started, but got interrupted by the online shop arrival. You can just see the detritus of the first Xmas cheese snackage left on the table

@greglet I LOVE your armchair - I want exactly that for the corner where the Christmas tree currently is, don’t suppose it’s a recent purchase?

greglet · 22/12/2023 18:52

@Chelsea26 it's just IKEA!

@greglet we have that chair Grin It hides under a big blanket as DH is a messy bugger.

A corner of the kitchen, as the rest might be messier.
Cupboard doors need a repaint as not done for 20 years. That's not dirt, that's proper stains.

Love that mirror and your sideboard.

Nearly all of these pictures smack of ‘homely’ I love it

Twodogsonthecouch · 22/12/2023 18:59

A few more. A better shot of the kitchen/dining/nook, the hall with the piano and the sitting room. Quite cluttered, a bit dated, definitely not grey 😉😄

@greglet Amazing! I shall venture in after the NY madness… I’m excited for my little reading nook!

I love the lamp shade above your kitchen table!

My kitchen is very 'busy' I realise - I like having everything I need out and that includes cook books which are just out of shot.

This one kinda is insta friendly!!! I love it!

Clothes in wardrobes
Makeup in dressing table drawers
Food and cooking equip/ crockery in kitchen cupboards
Any sentimental things in the ottoman bed

We don’t have a lot of stuff to be honest. If I don’t use it, I don’t keep it. We have a four bedroom house, one bedroom is an office, but we packed in less than a day and moved using only one rental van.

I am genuinely in awe!

Arrivederla · 22/12/2023 19:07

ThatshallotBaby - love your dresser and table.

Thighdentitycrisis · 22/12/2023 19:09

@ThatshallotBaby
your kitchen wins for homely!

ThatshallotBaby · 22/12/2023 19:13

@Thighdentitycrisis homely/complete mess. Thank you though, I do try but it’s a losing battle. @Arrivederla thank you, table is from dunelm, dresser from my truly wicked ex stepmother. I have saged it Grin

DilemmaDelilah · 22/12/2023 19:15

This is my reading corner in my living room. It's a bit more messy so a bit more homely I think.

View from my spot on the sofa, our living room is a boring square 1990s build.

@PennyPinkPineapple. Thanks. Nothing in the house matches really because I scavenge 😀.
That came from my aunts house when she died. It's probably at least 50 years old

ThatshallotBaby · 22/12/2023 19:21

@MissyB1
Love your ddog, he/she matches your room Smile

Illbebythesea · 22/12/2023 19:21

OP you’re not going to get reality here, just a few people will post, those proud enough to show their pretty tidy homes. Hence why I’m not positing a photo of mine 🤣

MeinKraft · 22/12/2023 19:22

Xmas Sad Clicked this thread hoping to see pictures of homes like mine and instead faced with endless gorgeous homes with the 'mess' of a first edition leather bound book strewn haphazardly upon the solid oak dresser.
