Was I unreasonable to do this?

So..done my usual supermarket shop this evening and noticed the food/toy donation trolley looking a bit bare.

I paid for my shopping as usual, then went back round the aisles and picked out two toys worth around £10 each and put them in the bank (didn't pay)

Supermarkets make a huge profit and felt sad for families in hostels etc this Christmas!

So you have stolen something from a supermarket? You are unreasonable

XenoBitch · 21/12/2023 22:26

YABU
How would it have been different to you taking the toys home?

Hoglet70 · 21/12/2023 22:26

If you were that worried about the people you would have given your own money.

cryinglaughing · 21/12/2023 22:26

Not good.

Singleandproud · 21/12/2023 22:27

You stole from the supermarket. It's highly likely that they make their own contributions to the charity that they support already.

WhereIsBebèsChambre · 21/12/2023 22:27

So when the charity leaves the shop, they ll set the alarms off?

Dacadactyl · 21/12/2023 22:28

You were being unreasonable.

MrsWhites · 21/12/2023 22:28

Of course you were - you think supermarkets should donate gifts but you weren’t prepared to donate yourself?

jammysocks · 21/12/2023 22:29

@WhereIsBebèsChambre has a point!!

Plus it's stealing

GreenIsMyFavoriteColour · 21/12/2023 22:29

YABU

piglet81 · 21/12/2023 22:29

Err… are you looking for praise for shoplifting?!

Gloriousgardener11 · 21/12/2023 22:30

You robbed Peter to pay Paul - not good.

Whattodo112222 · 21/12/2023 22:31

This is delusional.

You stole to give to charity because you were too cheap to buy 2 toys yourself?

Madness.

Quitelikeit · 21/12/2023 22:31

There’s worse crimes to commit

So you are the local Robin Hood I guess? 😂😂😂

Lifeasiknowitisout · 21/12/2023 22:32

Of course you did.

Did people also applaud you on the way out?

MonsteraMama · 21/12/2023 22:32

Are you wanting a medal for being such a Robin Hood? Oh bravo, well done, stick it to the man etc. etc.

Meanwhile the supermarket you stole from has probably already contributed significantly more to the charity than your stolen £10 worth of toys.

Kinneddar · 21/12/2023 22:32

Congratulations you're a shoplifter.

Not sure why you'd want to boast about that

ValerieMoore · 21/12/2023 22:33

YANBU

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 21/12/2023 22:33

This has got to be a wind up😂

Tinkerbyebye · 21/12/2023 22:33

It’s stealing, well done on being a thief

VeniVidiWeeWee · 21/12/2023 22:38

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 21/12/2023 22:33

This has got to be a wind up😂

Probably not. There are a surprising number of mn users who think stealing from supermarkets is OK.

Bookgrrrl · 21/12/2023 22:39

Supermarkets make a huge profit and felt sad for families in hostels etc this Christmas!

It’s not the supermarkets that pay for people stealing from them, though, is it? It’s the other customers. Some of whom can’t afford higher prices that shops have to charge to make up for goods lost to thieves. Thieves like you.

And let’s face it, you might be telling yourself you did this for the families in hostels, but really you did it to make yourself feel good without actually having to DO anything.

FictionalCharacter · 21/12/2023 22:42

Supermarkets make huge profits, yes. They protect those profits by putting up prices to cover their losses from stealing by people like you.

Thementalloadisreal · 21/12/2023 22:43

Bit weird. Why not buy a few smaller toys, chocolate selection boxes, and put them in.

CyberCritical · 21/12/2023 22:45

So you felt bad but not bad enough to spend your own money?
