Two teenagers found guilty today of murdering Brianna last Feb.

The murder was plotted on their phones. Discussed between them. The girl had a note in her bedroom found on the floor, of the murderous Plan.

The girl had downloaded the dark Web on her phone and was watching violence and gore and was obsessed with serial killers.

Where are the parents in all of this?
They just seemed to have no idea of what their teens are up to and what they are watching?

Parents are paying for the phone, no doubt, shouldn't they take more interest.

What started out as buying a little payg phone so you could contact your child on the way to and from school has gone way too far.

It's horrible out there what's going on?

Rip Brianna. We have a real problem that people are being evil so young,

Also shied been expelled from previous school lovely young lady.
She came to Briannas school and identified her as vulnerable, makes you wonder if there should be more safeguarding too?

If your expelled from school, why should another school want you. In this case it proved fatal.

Just finished reading a long and very disturbing news report.
These are two seriously damaged teenagers. How, I don’t know but neither appear from the court reporting to have any empathy or understanding of consequences. They may have thought they wouldn’t get caught but they had no understanding of a family losing their child ( Girl X contemplated killing other children.) would cause them pain, distress, never ending grief, the huge loss. They both seem totally desensitised.
Without knowing how they behaved at home it’s impossible, and unfair , to blame their parents. I can’t imagine how a parent starts to contemplate 20-30 years of prison visiting.
RIP Brianna, I’m so sorry your life ended like this.

PonyPatter44 · 20/12/2023 22:53

Square-tipped kitchen knives are not really the answer. Boy Y's idiot parents bought him a sodding hunting knife.

Cheshiresun · 20/12/2023 23:05

Both parents were crying in court. Of course it is devastating that your son/daughter is going to get a life sentence. Not half as devastating as your child being violently and brutally stabbed to death though. Surely they must have known their child had unhealthy interests, the parents must have had some knowledge, or were they simply passive and let child do what they wanted?

Our home internet blocks any violent sites etc. Surely you would know that your child has unhealthy fixations/up to no good/acting strangely/whatever. Allowing your child to buy a knife on holiday, even being there with them when doing that, facilitating that? Likewise if my daughter/son had a knife in their bedroom I'm certain I would find it whilst tidying up etc. I don't think 15 is too old to not know what your teen is up to. I don't understand it.

BarelyCoping123 · 20/12/2023 21:24

@FrippEnos & @SoMuchSimpler I'm just curious - do you have teens? Because you seem very divorced from the actual reality of parenting teens these days

Ah the old you don't agree therefore you can't be a parent.
What absolute BS

girlfriend44 · 21/12/2023 00:53

AlwaysGinPlease · 20/12/2023 19:11

They should be named and their evil faces shown everywhere and hopefully their lives will be short and miserable as they deserve. This is very similar to a US case I recall. Poor Brianna.

Names are easily available on the Internet.

BarelyCoping123 · 21/12/2023 00:54

@FrippEnos I asked a simple question, and gave a clear reason for asking. It's not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing, it's a matter of understanding the reality of parenting teens in 2023. Which I think in fact is highly relevant

Me neither, its awful. Didn't she ever go in her daughters room either. A note on the floor of the plans to murder.

The girl said she often just sat in her room playing video games too.
What a lovely existence.

Not out there playing sport or doing anything nice, just viewing horrible stuff on the net. Fave film Sweeney Todd.

A lotof ignorance from @girlfriend44

Agree it is clear op dose not have teenagers.

Snap chat deletes messages, anyone can delete messages and they do. Luckily the police got access to them.

Would many parents even know what to look for in the onion browser? They can also use incognito.

Checking a phone is not some magical bastion. If a teen knows they are having it checked. It will be deleted or used in hidden apps.
Way too simplistic to blame the parents. There are so many other variables.

As for the poster saying did they know where their kids were? Yes they all probably thought they were just hanging out in the park on a Saturday afternoon. It was hardly unsociable hours.

Poor Brianna.

Whether I've got a teenager or had a teenager, has nothing to do with it. You don't need to be the current parent of a teen to post.
Theirs clearly a problem with smart phones, social media etc.

People like Mark Zuckerburg couldn't give a shit either its all about money to them.
I bet no checks are done on anyone who wants to sign up to social media. Nobody has to even prove who they are.

Not ignorance fact.

coffeandrteav · 20/12/2023 22:36

I mean nobody has mentioned that Boy Y's father bought him a dangerous hunting knife at 14. But yea it's the phones.

I was going to say the same thing. He was obsessed with knives (which is why the defence wanted him diagnosed, so they could say that it was autistic obsessiveness and not anything sinister). His family indulged his obsession. He was allowed to keep a hunting knife in his bedroom. There was neglect in both cases. People can be psychopaths and not do bad things, that is down to nurture.

coxesorangepippin · 21/12/2023 01:43

I think the op is being a bit naive about all this really, especially 'I bet no checks are done on anyone who wants to sign up to social media.'

I'd expect any teen to be able to download basically whatever they wanted

Plotting to kill someone is obviously a different kettle of fish

Rip Brianna.

brainworms · 21/12/2023 01:46

Those teens are nasty little shits. Poor Brianna should have been able to lead a long and happy life. It's devastating.

If your [sic] expelled from school, why should another school want you

Because children have a legal right to an education. Even the horrible ones.

Of course they have a right to an education but other children have a right to safety and sometimes the horrible ones are a danger to everyone around them. And I mean danger.

Of course they have a right to an education but other children have a right to safety and sometimes the horrible ones are a danger to everyone around them. And I mean danger.

But where would you educate them? Do you just throw the kids who have been expelled into a special unit? Becsuse they are very expensive. I worked in one. The class sizes are a maximum of 8, they need security, 2 member of staff and constant supervision. Not all kids who are expelled need to go there. Trust me I hate it when little shits expelled ftom other schools come into my kids class and I wish them and their parents could all be put somewhere else, but they can't. We don't have the manpower or resources.

The constant negative messaging from vocal anti trans activists, amplified by the right wing press and populist politicians is likely to have been a significant contributer to this tragedy too.

Detective Superintendent Mike Evans, of Cheshire Police says that the motivation was other than Brianna being trans. Still, what would he know?

coffeandrteav · 21/12/2023 06:48

@girlfriend44 Nope it is still ignorance.

This was not down to smart phones. As many pp have tried to say. Much much deeper.

What do you mean by 'so they can say its autistic obsessiveness and not anything sinister'

Whether its autistic obsessiveness or general old obsessiveness, it certainly can be sinister. Autistic or otherwise.

Naptrappedmummy · 21/12/2023 08:02

There are literally thousands and thousands of children living this sort of life - expelled, sitting around playing video games, being indulged by their parents and society who want to treat them as vulnerable. It’s a ticking time bomb - they’ll be adults in a few short years.

thebear1 · 21/12/2023 08:04

They knew each other, if they didn't have phones they'd probably have talked about. They might not have accessed dark Web but there are back to back serial killer documentaries on TV and books in libraries. It's unlikely they murdered because they had a phone.

Yes, and then they end up in prison, even if not for murder but for criminality of some sort. Or are unemployable.

That’s not what they said - what an unnecessarily ageist comment!

If you’ve never owned a dog you don’t fully understand dog ownership. If you’ve never played a video game you don’t fully understand the pleasures of video gaming. If you’ve never parented a teen you dont fully understand the modern intricacies of teen parenting.

You’ll be older one day. I hope the next generation moves on from this bullshit dismissal of age for your sake.

Naptrappedmummy · 21/12/2023 08:24

bellac11 · 21/12/2023 08:05

Yes, and then they end up in prison, even if not for murder but for criminality of some sort. Or are unemployable.

It’s dramatically risen since schools took a restorative approach and parents have been encouraged to love bomb their children. I wish supporters of that would just admit the experiment has failed miserably, but they won’t. I saw a post on here not too long ago, a boy had attacked a girl in his year for no particular reason and put her in a headlock. ‘Awww bless’ came the responses, as he had ADHD. In a few short years he will be a grown man attacking women and the same people will be saying how shocking it is and how on earth did he grow up to feel entitled to do that.

crumblingschools · 21/12/2023 08:37

@Tiredalwaystired it’s not an ageist comment, they are not saying an old person says that, they are saying it is a reason/comment that has been said/rolled out for a long time.

I might be wrong but I think that poster used to be a Secondary school teacher so has had experience of many teens.

Tiredalwaystired · 21/12/2023 08:43

How can “ah the old don’t agree” not be an ageist comment?,

There is a problem with Smartphones, msinly with time wasting, affecting the mental health of teens, cauding poor concentration and poor sleep. Of course Mark Zuckerberg doesn't give a shit about other peoples children. They are the responsibility of their own parents. But Smartphones aren't turning swathes of children into murderers. Some people are psychopathic. Very few of them are child murderers. We need to work out why children like this turn out that way, and ways to help parents to parent effectively.
