To ban Bing

3 year old ds recently got really into Bing. I like Flop. (I know the whole programme is a bit strange!) In all seriousness though I do think it contributed to a decline in behaviour as he’s becoming so whiny and he never was before. He also keeps saying ‘I caaaan’t’ which is a direct Bing quote.

I am wondering if anyone else noticed this. And are there any other programmes with more positive role models he might enjoy? I’ve tried Bluey but he really doesn’t like it.

I don’t think we’re talking about the same Bing, but microsoft Bing has to be the most pointless invention ever. I have a perfectly good search engine. I don’t need another one to get in the way, ever. Most irritating.

BaleOfHay · 20/12/2023 08:58

We ban Bing - for encouraging whiny little shit behaviour. And Peppa for the appalling sex stereotypes.

I've got a lot of time for Duggee, Bluey and the Octonaughts though.

SleepingStandingUp · 20/12/2023 09:01

Nah, he's just 3.

Are you a Marvel fan? Seen the Hydra symbol? Now go back and look at the Octonauts one. Oh yeah, that Octopus 🦑 goes DARK. It's a game way show to doing bad things.

I still love it tho

Amberandgrey · 20/12/2023 09:03

He’s not into Duggee either - I think that’s why I was quite pleased when he liked Bing as he wasn’t really into any TV for a while! But I really do think it’s encouraging whiny demanding sort of behaviour. Difficult to tell as he is 3 and it is Christmas but still …

Children programme creators need to have a long hard look at themselves. I still remember when we first got Nickelodeon in the 90s. My perfectly lovely little cousin suddenly started speaking in screeching voice and throwing himself on a floor in a tantrum.

You’re right though!

Bing is an annoying, whiny little prick and for that alone, banning it would be entirely NU. It’s certainly not out of the realms of possibility that it’s caused a change in behaviour.

clarepetal · 20/12/2023 09:06

I want bing to fuck off too

katmarie · 20/12/2023 09:10

Bing is definitely annoying, especially the way he talks. It could be worse though. At that age my DS was getting into Paw Patrol, which is a gateway for wanting aaaaaaaalllllll the toys. Seriously, we have so many paw patrol vehicles now. It's endless, and every new series brings a new tower/set of vehicles/characters. ugh.

You really didn’t need the explanation- your title was enough for me to agree with you lol! Definitely ban Bing. Instead, you could try Hey Duggee (iPlayer), Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom (Netflix), Peppa Pig (Netflix) or there’s endless American rubbish on all streaming platforms if you can tolerate it

Inkypot · 20/12/2023 09:12

Whining. It's a Bing thing.

Sorry Grin
(No, YANBU)

Ostryga · 20/12/2023 09:14

Fuck Bing, I still have nightmares about that little prick. He was banned in our house because Dd used to copy him and it sent me over the edge 😂

Try and get him in Ben and Holly - Nanny Plum is the best character ever and it’s funny for grown ups! Bluey is also excellent.

MuchTooTired · 20/12/2023 09:18

Bing is banned in my house. Luckily my kids are 5 now so past Bing, but for a terrifying stage they were into watching him until the ban. Bing’s a whiny spoilt little poppet who needs to toughen up!

Go jetters is good, if you’ve got Netflix there’s some good stuff on their for kids that won’t drive you completely bonkers.

CatamaranViper · 20/12/2023 09:20

We managed to swap bing for blaze and the monster machines.

colouroftherainbow · 20/12/2023 09:21

Agree with Bing being irritating. Bluey is a good alternative and GoJetters and Octonauts were popular when DC were same age

Ablondiebutagoody · 20/12/2023 09:22

Ben and Holly

1967Kitherly · 20/12/2023 09:24

Omg i agree I hate Bing, such a whiney little annoying shit 😂😂

TotHappy · 20/12/2023 09:26

I think Bluey is for slightly older if he's a young three - JoJo and GranGran is on iplayer and very similar to bing I.e. child with single caregiver navigating the world gently but not so whiny and weird. I'd try that.
And YANBU.

I agree, it's rubbish.

MarleyandMarleyWoooo · 20/12/2023 09:29

Puffin Rock on Netflix is just adorable.
That, Bluey, Tractor Ted (prime but I also pay for Tractor Ted TV 😂), Shaun the Sheep (I’m less keen on this one tbh!) and alpha/number/colourblocks are my boys favourites at the moment.
I do think a lot of kids tv is just too much a lot of the time; too loud, too fast, too bright, just too much!

MotherOfCrocodiles · 20/12/2023 09:32

Bing is maddening but I do think my kids learned a lot about navigating social situations and toddler dramas from it

Another one with a similar social emphasis but without the bad behaviour is Daniel Tiger (on Netflix)

Flop is an awful permissive parent (or whatever he is) and should tell Bing off more

cupofdecaf · 20/12/2023 09:32

Bing is banned in our house. I say naughty bing and change the tv.

booksandbrooks · 20/12/2023 09:32

We had a bing ban and a peppa pig ban.

Now my kids are older they watch tawdry American shite on their own profiles and read books like dork diaries and I have nostalgia for the time I carefully curated all their content.
Don't get me wrong I still have a fair few bans going on 😂 and it's all age appropriate.

CuntRYMusicStar · 20/12/2023 09:34

Bing was banned in our house - he killed a butterfly and nobody did anything about it, he was whiny and annoying and flop made me feel bad about having rules and boundaries.

Ben and Holly was our (mine and dh's) favourite show - nanny plum is hilarious 😂
