To ban Bing

3 year old ds recently got really into Bing. I like Flop. (I know the whole programme is a bit strange!) In all seriousness though I do think it contributed to a decline in behaviour as he’s becoming so whiny and he never was before. He also keeps saying ‘I caaaan’t’ which is a direct Bing quote.

I am wondering if anyone else noticed this. And are there any other programmes with more positive role models he might enjoy? I’ve tried Bluey but he really doesn’t like it.

I have a bit of a soft spot for Bing, because my ds loved it so much when he was little. My mum knitted him a Flop, and he loved reading the books at bed time

Soberfutures · 21/12/2023 06:11

My son who is now 11 used to bloody love bing. Drove me insane. Though we still use "the bye bye box" as a threat haha.
As In the balloon episode where it pops and has to go away in the by bye box aka the bin.....(least I think it was a balloon)
So things get threatened to go in the bin if he acts like a little shit teenager

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 21/12/2023 06:26

I'm very trigger happy with banning tv that irritates me. I go into the Netflix website, and block the programme so it's as if it's just not on Netflix anymore.

"Oh dear, looks like cocomelon has gone. How sad"

SinnerBoy · 21/12/2023 06:27

😁

Bootskates · 21/12/2023 06:29

The absolute shite my kid watches now shes older 🙄 I actually miss the Bing/Cbeebies/Peppa days. Even miss Mr Tumble!

Would never miss Paw Patrol though, truly hated that one.

Outwiththenorm · 21/12/2023 06:29

Agree that Bing and Peppa are the two worst influences for whiny behaviour. In Bing’s defence though he doesn’t appear to have any parents and is being brought up by a carer (?) who is not of the same species.

Mouthfulofquiz · 21/12/2023 06:32

This is such an eye opener! All of mine loved bing and I don’t recall them whining. I love Flop, so calm and gentle.

Trumpton · 21/12/2023 06:56

Bing. It’s a winge thing.
I looked after 3small grandchildren. Totally banned.
Duggie for the win!

I don’t think we’re talking about the same Bing, but microsoft Bing has to be the most pointless invention ever. I have a perfectly good search engine. I don’t need another one to get in the way, ever. Most irritating.

That’s what I thought the thread was going to be about…and I wholeheartedly agree!,,👍👍

I feel like Bing would have benefited from Flop being less calm and gentle and telling Bing to stop complaining about absolutely every aspect of his life. He's negative about everything he ever encounters.

Theunamedcat · 21/12/2023 08:10

For a bit of retro see if you can find abney and teal set off my sons porridge obsession he is turning 15 soon still asks for it and sings the song 😂

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 21/12/2023 08:20

We went through a bing phase and never noticed an issue. We dont watch much bing anymore and we still have the whining. But at 3 whining is in full flow anyway. Its that stage. Which is why bing is like he is.

Peppa is rude at times. We do watch it but if something isnt kind or rude i do mention it. I rarely let DD watch tv without me so it's easy to discuss things.

We find TV in general intensifies toddler behaviours. We had a week of illness and a lot of TV time and oh my god the behaviour was annoying! We limit TV generally without making a big thing of it. I do find without TV, play happens more and imagination grows alot. But its a balance between my sanity and needing 10 minutes quiet and knowing alot of TV makes things worse. We don't have tablets or anything either. Because we've never really needed them day to day.

One thing we do do is show old tv shows sometimes. Spot is on youtube and was a favourjte for a while.we also like miffy. Worth a try to find somehe likes

Soapon · 21/12/2023 08:23

Being a whingy shit, it’s a Bing thing.
Hate Bing! Duggee, octonaught, go jetters and alpha blocks a hit. I try to just use CBeebies. And a weird one with mr onions but I can remember the programme name! Peppa was also banned.
he’s older now so into Paddington and films.

timesogin · 21/12/2023 08:26

We also don't watch bing/peppa etc and try to keep to CBeebies. I feel like I've turned into my mum - we were never allowed itv as kids 😬

One that hasn't been mentioned is Tee and Mo (about a monkey preschooler and his mum) it's fun and very sweet and no stupid whining/sex stereotypes etc
Also RaRa the noisy lion

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/12/2023 08:27

You know what, I have a soft spot for Bing looking back. Mainly because he is a whiny little gobshite, rather than a feisty hero. And I liked the music.

I also think it was less smug than Bluey, which is aimed at parents.

Amberandgrey · 21/12/2023 08:28

Bing is on CBeebies.

Negative - yes indeed! A depressing, joy-sucking little shit.

Whoever said Abbey and Teal, good call!

RonObvious · 21/12/2023 08:34

It could be worse, it could be Caillou. I fucking hated Caillou.

Whatafustercluck · 21/12/2023 08:38

Ostryga · 20/12/2023 09:14

Fuck Bing, I still have nightmares about that little prick. He was banned in our house because Dd used to copy him and it sent me over the edge 😂

Try and get him in Ben and Holly - Nanny Plum is the best character ever and it’s funny for grown ups! Bluey is also excellent.

I second this, Ben and Holly is brilliant. And there's an episode in which there's a mayor who is just like Boris Johnson which is a complete piss take clearly aimed at adults. Dd is 7 and I still encourage her to watch it when I can. Nanny Plum is awesome.

Bing doesn't bother me. I think it teaches some good lessons and, whiny little shit that he is, Bing does tend to come good in the end. Plus, I love how Pando just randomly strips off his trousers. It's exactly like pre schoolers behave.

Peterbread · 21/12/2023 09:02

I detest Bing! I honestly believe it teaches kids to be whiny and that's it's okay because your parent/caregiver will always be understanding and patient.

My DN loved Bing and was/is so whiny. A coincidence I think not!

Previousreligion · 21/12/2023 13:06

Mine loves Charlie and Lola. I like it too, I find a lot of more recent stuff too "whizzy".

Puffin Rock also a hit.

OhwhyOY · 21/12/2023 22:11

Bing is a whiny, irritating brat but Pando is a complete C U next Tuesday.

My DD has actually learnt useful things from it though e.g. don't walk in front of the swing when someone's on it. Agree the parenting on it is shit - why on the swing episode do the adults let Pando just stay on the swing forever and not tell him off?! They just tell Bing to wait his turn. That is not teaching toddlers an appropriate lesson about fairness.

Agree Flop is too lax as well. But I do find the character very relaxing, I like his voice, it's soothing.

CuntRYMusicStar · 20/12/2023 09:34

Bing was banned in our house - he killed a butterfly and nobody did anything about it, he was whiny and annoying and flop made me feel bad about having rules and boundaries.

Ben and Holly was our (mine and dh's) favourite show - nanny plum is hilarious 😂

Me (53)and DH (59) LOVE nanny plum. Sadly our 2 are way too old for Ben and Holly now 😢

bakewellbride · 21/12/2023 22:54

My friends kid used to copy bing. She loved the episode when pando slept in bings bed and would go up to her sleeping dad - who was asleep in his own bed doing nothing wrong - and whine "he's sleeping... in myyyy bed!!!" Urgh no he's not!!

Seeleyboo · 21/12/2023 23:11

Ban Bing. The murdering bunny and his enabling foster flop adulty wool thing. I banned mine before they killed butterflies and stepped in dog poop only to wipe it all over the house. Whinny destructive bratty Mcbratbrat
