To ban Bing

Amberandgrey · 20/12/2023 08:56

3 year old ds recently got really into Bing. I like Flop. (I know the whole programme is a bit strange!) In all seriousness though I do think it contributed to a decline in behaviour as he’s becoming so whiny and he never was before. He also keeps saying ‘I caaaan’t’ which is a direct Bing quote.

I am wondering if anyone else noticed this. And are there any other programmes with more positive role models he might enjoy? I’ve tried Bluey but he really doesn’t like it.

Our TV had a weird fault in that it couldn't play Cocomelon. Just stopped working one day. Funny that. Perhaps your TV has the same flaw with Bing.

I found pretty much all the Cbeebies stuff fine, with the bonus of no ads.

ElectricMagpie · 20/12/2023 09:38

Given his flat, unflappable way of speaking and reacting to Bing's appalling behaviour I'm convinced Flop is on high doses of citalopram...

PostmansKnock · 20/12/2023 09:39

I once put Bing on in a nursery classroom (there was a crisis) and he went into the back room in a shop and got locked in or something and I honestly felt like I was showing them something inappropriate. Grin As if I should be charging across the room saying 'look away children'.

Magenta82 · 20/12/2023 09:44

DD2 loves Bing, I can't stand the pathetic whining little brat!
I've managed to avoid Peppa Pig by telling everyone never to let DD see it but I didn't know what I was getting into when I let her watch Bing.

SnapdragonToadflax · 20/12/2023 09:46

BaleOfHay · 20/12/2023 08:58

We ban Bing - for encouraging whiny little shit behaviour. And Peppa for the appalling sex stereotypes.

I've got a lot of time for Duggee, Bluey and the Octonaughts though.

Yup, this. I watched a couple of episodes of Bing and Peppa and decided they were not for me. Thankfully I saw them early enough my child didn't really notice them, so I could bring him up saying 'No darling we don't watch Bing, let's find something else' 😬

Bloody love Octonauts, especially the musical ones!

5foot5 · 20/12/2023 09:48

I read this because I thought it would be a rant about White Christmas and I would support that. I never used to care but in recent years it has become one of my least favourite Christmas songs. It is such a dirge!

But I see this is some other Bing and I have no idea, my DC is 28.

SnapdragonToadflax · 20/12/2023 09:48

Just to add, I am in no way perfect - I let my child watch endless Blippi when I need to get stuff done (or just have a coffee and scroll Instagram in peace).

PetuniaTheWhale · 20/12/2023 10:29

I bloody hate Bing, the whiny little shit.

My two (3 & 5) just have whatever is on Cbeebies when I turn it on. There's no arguing over what to watch, and they get a good mix of age appropriate content. Bing is on there, but mixed in with other stuff so it's not too bad. Number/alpha/colour blocks, Bluey, Go Jetters and Supertato are the big hits in this house.

nothingcomestonothing · 20/12/2023 10:35

YABU to refer to him as Bing, when his actual name is Whingey Bing. Little shit. And Flop needs to cut down on the diazepam and put some boundaries in.

My youngest is 12, I should probably get over it.

janfebmarchapril · 20/12/2023 10:37

Bing is annoying, pando and his guardian person are worse. Flop is very annoying. Hate them all

Anawi · 20/12/2023 12:29

Eurgh I hated Bing too 🤣 he needs a good telling off and early bedtime. I agree with the others who suggested Ben and Holly, that was my favourite and Blaze and the monster machines was a hit when my son was about 3, I didn't mind that one too much.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 20/12/2023 12:33

Bing, Bluey and Peppa Pig are all awful. Whiny, rude, demanding. All our banned in our house and behaviour as massively improved

Cas112 · 20/12/2023 13:00

I HATE bing

He has always been banned in my house since I first seen it the first time on cbeebies, my toddler has genuinely never watched it

Whiny little sh**

fingerguns · 20/12/2023 13:02

I've stopped letting my kids watch Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee. I cannot tell you how much better behaved they are (age 2 & 3). I've tried to focus on stop motion shows like Shaun the Sheep and Clangers. They love them and there are no more TV-related breakdowns. It's like night and day!

ImustLearn2Cook · 20/12/2023 13:27

I hate Bing too. Just now I googled I hate Bing and Flop to see what would come up.

I found an old (unfortunately closed so can no longer sign it) petition to ban Bing on Change.org. Many of the comments from people who signed alleged that their children’s behaviour changed negatively after watching Bing.

@Amberandgrey YANBU. Ban Bing and protect your child.

flowerchild2000 · 20/12/2023 13:35

We don't watch any kids shows except Sesame Street and Vooks, both on Youtube. The cartoons for LO are a bit mindless.

Sartre · 20/12/2023 13:39

My Mum banned Teletubbies for my brother when he was small because she thought it would cause speech delay. I don’t like Bing because he always fucks up and no one seems to effectively correct him. You just get Flop softly saying ‘oh dear, you shoplifted, let’s take it back and say sorry’.

dullandgrey · 20/12/2023 13:53

I don't mind bing so much but I absolutely despite blippi 😡 he makes my blood boil whenever he comes on and my 3yo is always asking to watch him.

SisterA · 20/12/2023 14:10

I’m just here to say Fireman Sam has a blanket ban in my house. I’ve been close to complaint over it tbh.

Amberandgrey · 20/12/2023 14:35

Why @SisterA ?

OP posts:
TotHappy · 21/12/2023 00:23

Yes, why?! Haven't seen it since my own childhood. Do they teach the kids to set fires??

Dustyblue · 21/12/2023 02:23

Ostryga · 20/12/2023 09:14

Fuck Bing, I still have nightmares about that little prick. He was banned in our house because Dd used to copy him and it sent me over the edge 😂

Try and get him in Ben and Holly - Nanny Plum is the best character ever and it’s funny for grown ups! Bluey is also excellent.

Too right Bing can fuck off, thank christ my Bing days are over. Don't start me on Pando, little bastard he is.

Luuuurve Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom! DS7 still loves it too thankfully. Shame they only did 2 seasons, it's brilliant. Nanny Plum is my spirit-cartoon-character.

Canonlythinkofthisone · 21/12/2023 03:05

Bing iss banned in our house. Always just turn it over going, oh no not horrid Bing no thank yoouuu.

Whiny little entitled prick 🤣🤣
In the night Garden is banned cause it gives me the creeps.
Hey duggee is fab, and we like octonaughts and Peter rabbit is a good inoffensive watch.

Housenoob · 21/12/2023 03:37

Never had Bing on and I don't think we ever will from reading this thread 😂

We had to ban Peppa Pig. Tbf my LO (2.5 yrs) did actually learn a lot of nice stuff from it but she also picked up bratty sayings. We also noticed she would be unhealthily glued to the screen in a way that no other show would do. Her behaviour has improved since the ban, less whinging.

Hate Blippi, but have to admit his toothbrushing song is very good!

Atm mine is not really into any series, but more into classic Disney/Pixar films eg Beauty and the Beast, Jungle book, Toy Story etc. She'll not watch them all in one sitting, but 20-30 mins here and there. I also put on shows on YouTube that I used to love, eg the old school Pingu or Fireman Sam episodes.

Paddington series on Netflix is also quite nice, and inoffensive.

Oh yes, it's the stuff of nightmares! I used to endure it, because my daughter liked it. Sarah and Duck is ace. I totally agree about Ben and Holly and sometimes stick a DVD on for myself...
