Let's just rid the world of sprouts

I know MN love pretending that they like them. But nobody is impressed by your lies. Nobody wants them on the plate. So let's improve the world and rid it of these devil cabbages.

And don't try and ruin bacon by frying them together.

You are SO BU. My DD has indoctrinated her uni housemates into the shredded brussel sprouts with bacon that there are now another five households who will be serving this dish up on Christmas day. All credit to Jamie Oliver many years ago.

@user1471517900 - I totally, totally agree with you! Thank you :)

VolvoFan · 20/12/2023 16:18

Sprouts. Fart grenades.

Olika · 20/12/2023 16:21

Love them baked in the oven with Parmesan 😋

phoenixrosehere · 20/12/2023 16:34

Didn’t have a sprout until I moved to the UK and it was a boiled one as part of a roast and I would have agreed with you if that been my only experience. I cooked them myself by chopping them up and sautéing them in a bit of bacon, shallots and olive oil, seasoned with a bit of sea salt and they were delicious. Steamed them in a steam bag and they were good enough to eat alone that I would just eat a bowl of them as a snack. My DH didn’t think he liked sprouts either until he tasted the ones I made and those are the only ones he will eat. He was used to being served plain boiled ones so always left them.

To me they’re just another leafy green that I can sauté or stir fry in a pan for a quick meal.

I love sprouts . Sadly they do not love me back , so I have to limit myself to about 4.😷

There’s this gif if it helps.

Jesus, they even look like tumours

Echobelly · 20/12/2023 18:03

Sprouts are tasty if you just don't overcook them. Steam for 5 minutes, then they're soft with a little bit of bite, and a lovely side - everyone in my household loves them!

Doingtheboxerbeat · 20/12/2023 18:08

I will eat anything and the food I didn't like as a child, I will happily eat as a grownup - except sprouts.
I am yet to meet a sprout that I like and all the magic and dreams won't change this.

I love them! 😋

With Christmas dinner (or any roast, any time of year!), leftovers made into bubble & squeak or - my absolute favourite - my DH’s Thai peanut sprouts. They are a thing of delicious beauty.

Plus you spots a recipe please? That sounds delicious! Xxx

For lunch yesterday I had lentil cottage pie with a Brussels sporouts colcannon mash topping with strong provolone cheese, all I can say is lucky I am single, the cat doesn’t seem to mind 🤣

Wellhellooooodear · 21/12/2023 21:24

I agree. Satan's bollocks.

MeyerBennett · 21/12/2023 21:27

Delicious raw, shredded, in a salad!

Cooked, nope.

RobertaFirmino · 21/12/2023 21:29

Can't abide them. I've tried them a few times, boiled, steamed, roasted with rashers and just haven't liked them. It's almost as if we all like to eat different things, isn't it!

greenacrylicpaint · 24/12/2023 12:56

Me too, last week I made up a pasta dish, leeks, sprouts, chestnuts, thyme, garlic, butter, black pepper and Parmesan- stirred through pasta - it was divine.

Was this a recipe you could share, it sounds amazing!!

Butchyrestingface · 24/12/2023 13:39

You can ALL the sprouts to MEEEEE. I 💕 them. And I am no lentil-knitting, tree-hugging, tofu-chomping, clean-living gym bunny.

SurelySmartie · 24/12/2023 13:39

I also love sprouts. Steamed. I have them almost everyday from mid November through January.

Carouselfish · 24/12/2023 13:43

I love them! Must not be too soggy or too firm. Smaller ones nicest and only after the first frost. Before that they're not so nice.
Knew someone who liked raw sprout sandwiches with salad cream. Not dared to try that.

greenacrylicpaint · 24/12/2023 13:47

raw they are amazing. very spicy. they are related to mustard after all.
