Let's just rid the world of sprouts

I know MN love pretending that they like them. But nobody is impressed by your lies. Nobody wants them on the plate. So let's improve the world and rid it of these devil cabbages.

And don't try and ruin bacon by frying them together.

One of my favourite veggies. Especially after the frosts that make sprouts absolutely delicious.

You don't like them, then don't fucking eat them! But do not take away a dish literally millions of folk love just because you're a picky eater.

Winniespooh · 19/12/2023 18:53

I love them. Eat them all year round.

IAmAnIdiot123 · 19/12/2023 18:54

Fuuuuck no! I love them

Sholkedabemus · 19/12/2023 18:54

We bloody love them.

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 19/12/2023 18:54

Away and bile yer heid.

Sprouts rule.

InefficientProcess · 19/12/2023 18:54

Have you tried roasting them? They’re really nice roasted.

Sprouts lol

Alargeoneplease89 · 19/12/2023 18:56

Love them and prefer them to any other vegetable... maybe your taste buds are broken

PurpleNebula84 · 19/12/2023 18:56

SalviaDivinorum · 19/12/2023 18:50

Yes they have definitely been modified over the decades to taste sweeter and less bitter. The original varieties aren't grown commercially any more.

Apparently there is something genetic that makes you either love or hate them.
Someone had told me they had spent time trying to grow the "bitter" taste that you are genetically predisposed to not liking out.... No. They haven't. Sweeter or not... They still taste bloody awful to me.

A very fair post, and representative of most of this thread.

I can only assume Big Sprout has paid off MN here. It's sad to see.

I hope you get one of these in your stocking.

YANBU. Sprouts just reinforce my view that God doesn't exist, because no deity would surely inflict such a vegetable on his worshippers?

I've tried them shredded, with bacon, al dente, all if it and they are not improved by any attempts to make them take better.

maddiemookins16mum · 19/12/2023 19:02

Properly cooked sprouts with a shake of pepper and knob of butter are things of beauty.
We eat them all winter.
Sprouts aren’t just for Christmas.

Ladyj84 · 19/12/2023 19:12

Aww actually our kids love them and other veg the only veg there not keen on is cabbage lol.

Inyourwildestdreams · 19/12/2023 19:15

TheOriginalChristmasFairy · 19/12/2023 18:28

Me too, last week I made up a pasta dish, leeks, sprouts, chestnuts, thyme, garlic, butter, black pepper and Parmesan- stirred through pasta - it was divine.

@TheOriginalChristmasFairy you’ve instantly made me starving just reading that!! Pasta, garlic, sprouts and cheese - foods of the gods 😍

Draconis · 19/12/2023 19:15

We have them all year round. My dc love them and are genuinely confused why people say they're disgusting.

festivetinseling · 19/12/2023 19:17

I like sprouts.

They are a million times better than the slimy abominations that are aubergines.

Inyourwildestdreams · 19/12/2023 19:21

I buy sprouts every week 😁😂 love em! DS (3) adores them too! Boiled, roasted, stir fried (with loads of garlic & chilli 🤤)

I actually think DS had them within the first week of weaning 😂

InefficientProcess · 19/12/2023 19:21

I don’t understand why people are so loud about sprouts being the worst vegetable when okra exists.

Onionringheaven · 19/12/2023 19:21

Team sprout here.
Shout for the sprout.
Layer upon layer of awesomeness.
A little packet of joy, like nature's maltesers 😁

Sahara123 · 19/12/2023 19:25

Massive sprout loving family here! This year I’ve actually grown some , there are at least half a dozen stalks waiting for me in the garden . Plus that cabbage looking bit on the top of each stalk which is apparently delicious 😋

Coastalcreeksider · 19/12/2023 19:27

I love sprouts, I bought a massive bag of them today.

Best bit of Christmas Dinner along with pigs in blankets.😁

Onemorestepintheworld · 19/12/2023 19:34

15p for a large bag of sprouts in my local Lidl today! I would have paid five times the price. Tbh they were a little small and fiddly, but worth the effort when roasted with garlic. YABVU.
Must try with breadcrumbs and cinnamon…

InefficientProcess · 19/12/2023 19:36

15p seems to be the default loss leader sprouts price this Christmas. Even Amazon sprouts are 15p, so I’m assuming that’s what all the supermarkets have gone for.

Parsnips were also 15p.

Lastexmouse · 19/12/2023 19:38

Love sprouts. Someone told me they are best roasted - rubbish. They are lovely simply boiled.

JustlikeElllie · 19/12/2023 19:38

I don't mind them.

I don't particularly like any of the cooked veg on a roast but I eat it because I know I should. Sprouts are tiny and don't taste of anything much so I'll keep them.
